DNQ. Marco Greco: +4.499
DNQ. Fermin Velez: +4.501
Race
Fastest Lap: Erik Comas - 1:29.850
Drive of the Race: Erik Comas - Made unconventional one-stop strategy work to score convincing victory
Reject of the Race: Martin Donnelly - Dominated early proceedings, then forgot how to drive
Oreca were the team to beat for much of the race, with Erik Comas and Allan McNish in a dogfight for the victory before the Brit's transmission failure. This left his teammate to cruise home to a comfortable victory in Jerez. However, there was one man who could have beat them; Martin Donnelly. The reigning champion showed for a while why he was the champ, but then promptly forgot how to drive as three separate accidents put an end to his afternoon.
The midfield was also decimated by a number of accidents, many of them involving the GA duo of Michel Ferte and Bertrand Gachot and earning both of them trips to the stewards' office. The chaos that unfolded opened up opportunities for a number of individuals, most prolifically Pedro Chaves, who made his way from the back row all the way up to 8th place. Attrition also played a role, with top runners like polesitters Emanuele Pirro, Eric Bernard and Emanuele Napsetti all hitting trouble at one stage or another.
Post-Race
- The latest Mugen-Honda upgrades have successfully resolved many of the early issues with the engine, and thus Mugen are not planning future upgrades in the immediate future.
- With the battle between Reynard and Lola heating up, both are planning new cars for 1990, to be announced in the coming weeks. Additionally, Reynard is planning to up production of the 89D, with rumours that two cars originally destined for All-Japan F3000 are being redirected to the International championship instead.
- After an incident involving car #11 (Eric van de Poele), #12 (Jorg Scrattenheim), #20 (Damon Hill), #23 (Andrea Chiesa), and #24 (Bertrand Gachot), along with a further incident involving car #14 (Hiro Matsushita), Michel Ferte has been handed a race ban by F3000 organisers. GA Motorsport will be required to nominate a replacement for Assen
- For his role in the aforementioned accident, as well as a further incident involving car #25 (Michel Ferte), Bertrand Gachot has been handed a race ban, which is suspended until the end of the year. He is cleared to race for Assen, but should he cause further problems, the stewards will react accordingly

Race
Fastest Lap: Erik Comas - 1:58.319
Drive of the Race: Cor Euser - Used local knowledge to deliver strong overall performance
Reject of the Race: Emanuele Pirro - Binned it early on while racing for lead, and was never heard from again
Erik Comas continued his run of hot form by taking his second win on the trot for Oreca. After taking the lead from IBR's Fabrizio Giovanardi, he was rarely challenged as he took home the winner's trophy and the lead of the championship in the process. The Dutch crowd however were treated to a highly entertaining six car battle for the lead early on between the two IBR cars, the two Orecas, Mark Blundell's Madgewick and the Martin Donnelly CoBRa duking it out for position. Once Pirro ran out of road and Comas checked out, the field strung out very quickly and found their rhythm.
After the race however, an enormous accident overshadowed all of that, as Johnny Herbert and the lapped Damon Hill came together immediately after the checkered flag. Andrea Chiesa had nowhere to go but to hit the stricken Herbert side-on at an estimated 120mph, resulting in considerable damage to both cars. Cheisa was able to climb out of the car unassisted, and was taken to the medical centre for assessment. Herbert's condition is currently unknown.
Post-Race
- Ford-Cosworth's MKII upgrade package has worked as expected, and the manufacturer are pleased with the progress made. They may look at further updates later in the year or next year for the DFY
- Reynard have confirmed that three 89Ds that were originally scheduled to go to a Japanese F3000 team that has since collapsed have been made available to International F3000 teams. As an added incentive, Rick Gorne has offered a 20% discount on these cars for any team that wishes to switch from Lola to Reynard. Lola have since responded with an identical discount on T89s for any existing Reynard customers looking to switch. These discounts will apply for this race only
- Andrea Chiesa was diagnosed with a sprained ankle from the accident. However, due to the five week layover until the next round, he should be cleared to race at Pergusa
- Johnny Herbert was taken to a local hospital, and was diagnosed with a severe concussion, broken right leg and two cracked ribs as a result of the impact. He will not be fit until September at the earliest, which means he will miss the next three races. Eddie Jordan Racing will need to announce a replacement as necessary
- After being forced to miss Assen, Emanuele Napsetti has demanded a partial refund for the money he's brought to Onyx. Onyx may respond to this request by either giving him the refund or refusing, but there may be consequences in doing the latter
- Michel Ferte has served his race ban, and is now available to race for GA Motorsport at Pergusa
Damage
Hiro Matsushita (Ford-Cosworth DFY/9): £10,500

After careful consideration, Forti would like to request a termination in Morbidelli's Contract which would probably give us a Half-Reimbursement from his wage. (£30,000?)
We are opting Morbidelli to remain with the team under a Pay-Driver Contract for the rest of the season, but if we cannot retain him, we shall be looking for another Pay-Driver elsewhere to cover his place.
More Info will be posted soon.

After deliberation I will sell the damaged Lola T89 chassis and purchase a Reynard 89D from FIRST Racing (Normal32) for 250,000. Bernard will drive the Reynard for the next 3 races should no further incidents occur.

Leyton House Racing, sponsored by the Japanese property magnate Akira Akagi, announced today that it would commit to a one-off entry at the upcoming Pergusa round of the Formula 3000 championship. It is likely that this is the precursor to a full-time entry in 1990 or 1991.
It is understood that the team have arranged to purchase two March chassis and a pair of Judd AVs. However, the real interest lies in driver selection. It is believed that Buddy Lazier, the American driver who failed to qualify for this year's Indianapolis 500 has inked a deal with the team. His team mate is likely to be rising star Robbie Buhl, who has been making waves over in American junior categories. Nether driver has run races in Europe so far.
Leyton House Racing will purchase two March 89-B chassis, and a pair of Judd AV engines.

Fastest Lap: Erik Comas - 1:32.485
Drive of the Race: Robbie Buhl - Gives lamentable Leyton House car to a solid result
Reject of the Race: Il Barone Rampante - Horror weekend puts severe dent in title hopes
Erik Comas has been the form guy in Formula 3000 for the last few weekends, and continued that into Pergusa, walking away with another comfortable victory. His cause was helped massively by a first lap incident involving teammate Allan McNish, Eric van de Poele, Martin Donnelly, Fabrizio Giovanardi and Josephine Aarseth that eliminated three drivers, before attrition took care of Emanuele Pirro and polesitter Mark Blundell. Behind the two rampant Oreca cars Paul Belmondo walked home with a welcome first podium for Middlebridge, with DAMS scoring more points in 4th and 5th. The battle for sixth was hotly contested all event, being held down by no less than half a dozen drivers at one stage or another, but in the end it went to Andrea Chiesa who claimed the final point with a late move on the frankly disappointing Eric Bernard.
Post-Race
- After a double no-show for Onyx, Emanuele Napsetti has publicly declared that he is now considering offers from other teams. Offers can be made to him before the next race, but if the situation at Onyx improves, he will remain with them.
- Hiro Matsushita's paymasters at Panasonic are less than happy with the no-show situation at Onyx. However, they are willing to give the team one more race to turn the ship around, otherwise they will be forced to take action.
- After the horror first half of the season culminating in one car failing to make the trip to , Keith Wiggans has fired his 2IC Dexter249 effective immediately. He has appointed Ataxia to fulfill the role from Brands Hatch onwards
- Judd's eponymous owner John Judd has made the announcement that he will no longer support the AV program beyond the end of 1989, citing booming business in F1. For existing customers, he will supply spare parts for repairs in 1990, but he will not produce any new AVs beyond the end of this season

Re: Alt-F3000: TMUSB - 1989 Season: Pergusa Up
First order of business is to clear out the 2nd seat at the team; Muller, Chaves and Hockenhull will have the money returned for the races they haven't done.
Then we'd like to offer the following deals to replace them for the remaining 5 races:
Marco Apicella - £25k
Eddie Irvine - £25k
Emanuele Naspetti - whatever money he can bring
We'd also like to fix our damaged Cosworth.

Re: Alt-F3000: TMUSB - 1989 Season: Pergusa Up
I would like to apologise as I believe I did not make my Information absolutely clear. And I believe as a result, Morbidelli has not been able to participate in Round 6.
Earlier Forti requested to only terminate Morbidelli's paid contract and revert to a paid role, which was declined and since then, I should of made this clear of whether to keep him or terminate his contract completely. It is believed that Morbidelli missed the race was because his contract was terminated completely rather than just rejected a paid role, in which we would strongly deny this is the case.
Forti would like to say and to make this situation clear, following Morbi's decision, he will be allowed to continue racing for the rest of the season and for as long as they can have him.
As a result of my slip up with the team, we will surely not guarantee any refund for the race he missed and we shall focus more and more before the next race starts.

After weeks of negotiation, it's been announced that Formula 3 start and current Formula 3000 driver Dave Coyne has purchased Madgewick. The team, which has been rumoured to have gone into finantial difficulties ever since the start of the year - surviving on Coyne's money pretty much through the year - is going to become part of Coyne's attempt to reach Formula One by 1994.
Coyne has announced he will be stepping down from driver duties from the rest of the year, and he's looking for a replacement driver for him, who will bring some funding.
We'll be repairing all the damage from Enna Pergusa, and Coyne will step-down from driver #2 in the team.
We will offer a pay-driver contract to the following drivers for the remainder of the season:
Jon Beekhuis
Mika Salo
Paul Warwick

Following discussion on the chat regarding the matter about the future of Morbidelli, Morbidelli will be released from Forti for the rest of the season.
Forti will sought out Andrea Montermini to replace him for the last five races on a pay-driver role. We shall request £25,000 or whatever money he can we can bring for the deal.

Race
Fastest Lap: Erik Comas - 1:22.886
Drive of the Race: Jon Beekhuis - Reigning American Racing Series champ puts in drive of his life in the 88 March
Reject of the Race: Emanuele Pirro - Dumbass move takes both IBR cars out of the race, and possibly out of title contention
The early stages of Brands Hatch threatened to be more of the same as the last few races, as Erik Comas scythed his way through the field. Until his Mugen Honda powerplant had other ideas, promptly exploded and put the championship leader out of the race. This would have opened the door for his closest rivals, but one by one, all of them had dramas of their own, including Mark Blundell with another mechanical failure, Allan McNish with a race-ending accident and polesitter Emanuele Pirro taking himself and his teammate out of a certain 1-2 late in the race.
When the dust settled, it was left to 1988 champion Martin Donnelly to claim a comfortable first win for the season, with the returning Marco Apicella claiming Pacific's first points in a fine drive to 2nd place. Debutant Jon Beekhuis put in an incredible job in the second Madgewick car to finish in 4th behind the second CoBRa of Andrea Chiesa, while Eric van de Poele and Bertrand Gachot rounded out the points.
Post-Race
- With Onyx failing to rectify their situation regarding unpaid repairs to equipment for the third race in a row, Emanuele Napsetti has had enough, and has walked effective immediately. Panasonic are also threatening to withdraw their backing before Birmingham, unless the situation is rectified immediately, and are willing to install new management if need be.
- Seeing the rapidly rising costs of Formula 3000, Renzo Engineering have announced they will now be offering repairs to Formula 3000 teams. They will be offered at half the price of manufacturer repairs and spares, but several manufacturers, including Reynard and Ford have already recommended against their usage, despite Series approval already being granted.
- The boom of Formula 3000 has meant the International Series has signed a new major sponsor in the form of Phillip Morris. As a result, all teams will recieve a payment of £100,000 effective immediately, plus a payment of £100 for every point scored between now and the end of 1991. Additional payments from Phillip Morris are to be announced at a later date.
Damage
Emanuele Pirro (Lola T89/50/1) - £27,500
Fabrizio Giovanardi (Lola T89/50/2) - £45,000
Bernd Schneider (Reynard 89D/9) - £22,500
Allan McNish (Reynard 89D/2) - £0
Paul Belmondo (Reynard 89D/3) - £55,000

Josephine Aarseth (Reynard 89D/11) - £10,000
Damon Hill (Judd AV/1) - £21,600
Erik Comas (Mugen Honda MF308/3) - £6,300
Repairs are to be done before 12:00 GMT on Saturday 25th March. Teams will now have to state whether they want standard repairs or Renzo Engineering repairs. If not stated otherwise, standard repairs will be assumed.

IBR will repair all damages with OEM components.
As we made clear previously that one driver may have to make way for cost purposes, due to costing the team £72,500 in damages with his bone-headed driving, Emanuele Pirro is benched until further notice. In his place, we will recruit Formula 3 driver Christophe Hurni (SUI), in exchange for the substantial finance he brings to the team.
