Only McLaren, Spirit and Osella still need to post their desired drivers (if any).

Very interesting to see how teams are handling the 'phasing'! Some are hedging their bets, while others are taking a more proactive attitude and signing early.

Just to clarify, there is no financial bidding in this series. The amount is the amount. I'll assume you'll still want the drivers you've listed; if you get Piquet he's going to cost you £1.4m more - but rejoice, Williams team - because if you get Senna he'll be costing you £800,000 less!

If you're curious, your championship points from the previous season are the sole factor (along with the RNG) in a driver's decision to sign with you. Points above all, in this virtual championship!

I am assuming some very big names are missing from the list on purpose?

This series uses two phases of driver signing. Prost and Lauda are not in the list I posted, and are only available in the second phase.

If I strip them out, you get:

Code: Select all

Driver 1
Nelson Piquet

Driver 2
Ayrton Senna
Michele Alboreto
René Arnoux

Knowing this, you may revise your list of driver signings for the position of Driver 1, if you want.

I'll give you a day to consider, and if I hear no response after that I'll assume the above list with Piquet-only as your Driver 1 choice is acceptable! ;)

^ That's just a-OK with me, Fantomette. :)

Driver Signing Results - Set One (Of Two)
Alfa Romeo, with a strategy that is not immediately obvious to this outsider, have decided to hire only Indycar drivers in their second car. Their first choice, South African female racer Desiré Wilson, has received only Alfa's offer for 1984, and is delighted at the prospect of returning to Formula One in a competitive team.

Spirit have first – and only – call on Philippe Streiff.

Andrea de Cesaris
Ligier - 20% chance
RAM - 20% chance
Minardi - 20% chance
ATS - 20% chance
Osella - 20% chance
Minardi gets it!

Alessandro Nannini
Arrows - 64% chance
Osella - 35% chance
Arrows gets it!

Elio de Angelis
Brabham - 33% chance
Tyrrell - 7% chance
Ligier - 2% chance
Ferrari - 40% chance
McLaren - 16% chance
Ferrari gets it!

Ayrton Senna
Lotus - 8% chance
Toleman - 7% chance
ATS - 2% chance
Renault - 42% chance
Williams - 20% chance
McLaren - 19% chance
Williams gets it!

This frees Nelson Piquet up with only the McLaren contract on offer – their first choice!

With Ligier's first choice – de Cesaris – taken, it's a straight toss-up between Ligier and RAM for Chico Serra's SKILLS.
Ligier - 50% chance
RAM - 50% chance
Ligier gets it!

Riccardo Patrese
Brabham - 66% chance
Tyrrell - 14% chance
Lotus - 13% chance
ATS - 4% chance
Brabham gets it!
With de Angelis already taken, Brabham get their second choice!

René Arnoux
Tyrrell - 11% chance
Ligier - 3% chance
Renault - 57% chance
McLaren - 26% chance
McLaren gets it!
McLaren get first dibs on the Frenchman, but he's their third choice, and their second choice is still on the market, so let's move onto the man in question…

Michele Alboreto
Renault - 68% chance
McLaren - 31% chance
Renault gets it!
Renault get their third choice, Alboreto…

… which also means that McLaren sign Arnoux.

Thierry Boutsen
Ligier - 25% chance
Toleman - 75% chance
Toleman gets it!

Lotus get their third choice – Martin Brundle.

RAM get their second choice - Roberto Guerrero

… and RAM also get their second choice for their other car - Guido Daccò.

***

Ligier, ATS, Tyrrell and Osella all made attempts to sign drivers for at least one of their cars but failed to do so.

Osella elected not to make further attempts at signing drivers in this first phase, but Ligier, ATS and Tyrrell are free to do so, if they want.

Ligier, ATS and Tyrrell – would any of you like to make another attempt at signing drivers for the cars you listed (Ligier's first car, ATS's first car, and Tyrrell's second car) in this phase of driver signing, or would you prefer to wait until the second phase before making further attempts?

Sponsor Signing – Set One (Of Two)
Teams that scored at least one point in the previous year's championship may sign team sponsors; teams that failed to score any points may not. In addition, certain teams owned by parent manufacturers may have lost some of their sponsorship space. Everyone's available sponsorship slots are listed below:

Brabham
Williams
McLaren
Alfa Romeo
Tyrrell
Lotus
Toleman
Arrows

… may all sign up-to one team sponsor and three supplementary sponsors, as they scored at least one point in last year's championship.

Ferrari
Renault

... may all sign up-to three supplementary sponsors only, as they are owned by parent manufacturers who take up the position of team sponsor.

Ligier
Spirit
Osella
RAM
Minardi

… may all sign up-to four supplementary sponsors only, as they did not score at least one point in last year's championship.

ATS
… may sign up-to three supplementary sponsors only, as they are owned by a parent manufacturer who take up the position of a supplementary sponsor.

To attempt signing of a sponsor, simply state the sponsor's name.

An example of signing sponsors:

Code: Select all

MahAwesomeRacingTeam would like to sign the following sponsors:
Skoal Bandit
Topolino
Sergio Tacchini
Comtesse du Barry
SITEV
Magirus
Rizla

I'm going to limit you all to listing no more than the magic number - seven - sponsors in your signing attempt. If you list more than seven, they'll be ignored (this is to prevent you all from just writing down every sponsor on the list, in the hope of eventually 'getting one'!).

You will only receive two attempts to sign sponsors; one after I post the first set of sponsors, and one after I post the second set of sponsors. Whether you come away from those two opportunities with full sponsorship coverage or no sponsors in sight - unlike driver signing - there will be no additional chances!

Furthermore, be aware that, also unlike driver signing, you will not receive the opportunity to approach any of the below sponsors again! When we move on to the second phase of sponsor signing, you will restricted to approaching sponsors listed in that second set only!

Good luck; be wise~!

Minardi has sponsorship space for four supplementary sponsors, but you may list (up-to) seven sponsors to try and put the moves on (since there's a reasonable chance you won't get at least one of them)!
