*Tree was planted in 1945 by my landlord's Italian father. Variety is unknown and has been entered into fig database under the name Locke's 1945 HBYLN (Honey Berry Yellow Long Neck). Breba crop produces large fruit in spring and the main crop produces far into fall. Flavor is a very sweet honey and fruity berry. The flesh is thick and syrupy, with mild seed crunch. Very ripe fruit has a jam marmalade consistency. Skin is extremely thin and peelable. These figs start out a light green color and turn more yellow in summer with more sunlight. Flesh changes color throughout the year from a golden yellow to a deep red. The red color may be a result of fig wasps in summer caprifying the fruit. These figs are common and do not require fig wasps for pollination/fruiting. Hardy from zones 8+. Protect or bring inside in colder areas. Fig cuttings root fast and fruits within the first year.
