On offer is a very vibrant, vintage, handmade Mexican copper wall hanging 'guardian of the underworld' bat mask. These are also sometimes referred to as being jaguar cat masks, however an example dating to around 1910 in the Boise museum of art states that these are bats and the ear shape would suggest that. It is unknown who made these masks. They all appear to have the same type of hanging chain which would suggest that they were created by a single craftsperson or workshop. It is difficult to date these masks precisely; online results frequently suggest 1940s and 1950s, whilst others claim around 1900. The mask measures 7" in height, not including the chain, 7.5" in width, and is around 3.25" in depth. As can be seen in the images, the mask is in great condition. Made in Mexico.
