Re: Identifying reject cars in disguise?

The Williams looks like a FW13B with a different air intake slapped on. Ah! Yes and no - I had initially thought FW13B as well, but I dismissed that idea because of the front of the sidepods - but what I forgot was, that they had the FW13 not-B at the end of 89, and that one had exactly those sidep...

I see what you mean, but the sidepods are totally different, IMHO.

I thought the Benetton might just be a 93 Benetton painted as 95 car, since the rear half looks similar, but the front suspension is different...

Identifying reject cars in disguise?

A while ago I visited the Simsheim Museum (here in Germany) which has lots of nice exhibits, like both a Concorde and a TU-144 - but to the trained eye the racecar department is a bit... suspicious. While there are a couple of nice racecars, some are definitely not the car they claim to be, e.g. the...

Re: Formation lap

Surely they never did one around Nurburgring Nordschliefe? I'm not sure about F1, but e.g. in the sportscar races, like the 1000km, they did a formation lap - but they took a shortcut - on the backside of the old pits, where you turn left into Hatzenbach at Nordkehre, you could then turn right and ...

Re: Biggest coincidences in motorsport

In 2017, the first races of the F1, Formula E, WRC and WEC seasons were all won by a driver named Sébastien (or Sebastian). Loeb had to go and screw everything up by not winning the opening WRX round (and, I guess, not sticking to WTCC as a driver). Indycar as well. And if we include class wins, th...

Re: The Alessandro Zanardi IndyCar Thread

The Race in Mid Ohio was absolutely awesome, lots of passing, much of it on the outside, especially by Seabass. I can't stand the F1 attitude of pushing the car on the outside off track, here the drivers give each other room (but not 1 cm more than they have to) and the result is exicting racing. He...

Re: Most Pointless F1 things

Well, the engine won a race (in a Lotus Chassis) and the BRM car got a 2nd place with Stewart and a couple of points for Spence, so while it certainly was not a groundbraking effort, there were many, many F1 things, that were much more pointless (as the engine collected 24 points and the car 15, if ...

Re: The "stupid suggestions and how to make them work" threa

Don't use a shortcut, but make 2 identical sections of the track, where each driver can choose which one to use. Take Monza: The main straight will be widened and split in 2 lanes shortly before the 1st chicane. You then have the normal chicane to the right for the right lane, and the same, but mirr...
