Re: Your Reject of the Race - Catalunya

I still stand by the choice..... Not only did Nelson not pass anyone, he didnt threaten or look remotely like it....signs of no confidence to me. no aggression or killer instinct that he top boys posess... What exactly are the criteria for ROTR if the normal "untalented rubbish" isnt suffi...

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Catalunya

N.P jr....

Did he perform a single overtaking manouvre on another car after avoiding the first corner melee?

Thought not :|

Very disappointing once again. Surely Flabio must realise the guy cant cut it by now?

Re: Best ever Minardi driver?

Alessandro Nannini for me He always put in decent performances in the awful M186 & M187 cars despite their chronic reliability from the Motori-Moderni motors. He overshadowed deCesaris in 1986 & the poor Campos in 87.. Picked up by Benetton in 88 I thought he was destined for the top & c...

Re: Ferrari's worst start to a season ever

As an overall poor season, I reckon 1992 must rank as one of Ferraris' worst ever. The F92A was a really poor car with a pretty gutless V12. I remember it being amongst the slowest through the speed traps all year The car also enabled the previously-talented Ivan Capelli to have a truly REJECT year....

Re: Favourite Reject Driver and Team

I'd like to put in a special mention for Porsche who turned up in 1991 with an engine for Footwork which was essentially a V12 comprising of 2 TAG V6's bolted together with the turbos removed. It was huge, weighing in at 418lbs, a full 110lbs heavier than the Ferrari V12 of that year. Added to that...

Re: Beatrice / Haas / Force / Lola 1986

I remember a documentary series that was on at the time on UK Channel 4 called EQUINOX. One particular episode covered the birth of the Ford V6 engine in the HAAS LOLA. Snippets from the 1986 season are seen as well as private testing & dyno work on the V6. It must have been screened in 1987 as ...

Re: Reject Engines...

I'd also like to nominate the Judd CV series purely because when Williams' engines were like this: Honda (87) - Judd CV (88) - Renault (89) The corresponding constructor's championship positions looked like this: 1st (87) - 7th (88) - 2nd (89) I think the Judds' biggest problem was the fact it was ...

Re: Reject Engines...

I reckon Peugeot were probably caught out with their inexperience as the original 905 engine was designed for anything up to 24hr endurance races. As such it would have been lower revving & less powerful to give it some longevity. The development work to get it up to speed for F1 was obviously a...

Re: Reject Engines...

Has anyone got more info on the Porsche V12 fitted into the Footwork in 1991. This was a DEFINITE reject engine & MAJOR faux-pas from a company with the prestige of Porsche! It was a development of the TAG V6 Prosche engine used by McLaren in the mid 80s. They took the turbo off and bolted two ...

Re: Reject Engines...

Some excellent posts so far!!! Yes the Peugeot in the 94 McLaren.... I suppose it could be argued it was their first F1 season, but then the engine was effectively a development of the engine used in the Le Mans Peugeots so should have been more reliable. It certainly always seemed to be lagging beh...

Re: Reject Engines...

The turbo Zakspeed was pretty poor, even considering that Zakspeed already had 5 years of experience and development on the engine by the time they started competing in Formula 1 in 1984. The engine had been used in the Zakspeed Ford Capris and C100/4 in the DRM and WSCC. Ford BDT block in that eng...

Re: Reject Engines...

The Lotus chassis clearly didn't help, because the Larrousses from 1989 and 1992 were good cars and the team scored points in both years. The 1991 Ligier and the 1991 Lambo/Modena were a bit crap, so even a DFR wouldn't have helped much. The 1990 Lotus was a shocker for sure, whereas the Larrousse ...

Re: Reject Engines...

Based on this years results, I'd say the Honda engine was a dud in 07 & 08... I know why you think that, but i'd have to disagree.. The Honda F1 engines have always been amongst the strongest...it's the chassis they have developed that have been hopeless.... I've spoken to a bloke who worked fo...

Re: Who Do You Hate Most in F1?

At least Steve Ryder has an ounce of F1 pedigree as he used to often present Grandstand in the late 80's early 90's when they would cut direct to the GP....he also interviewed the likes of Senna for the BBC F1 previews of the era... Jim Rosenthal HAS to be the worst anchorman for me. He was never a ...

Re: Reject Engines...

The Lamborghini V12's were actually pretty good....just a bit heavy IIRC, & development no doubt suffered as they were only ever powering very mediocre chassis' such as Larrousse, Lotus & Minardi.....they certainly sounded lovely!! Another reject suggestion could be the Yamaha V12 used by Jo...

Re: Nelson Piquet, how long will he last?

I cant see N.P jr lasting too much longer if he continues this form.... The relative qualifying performances of himself & Alonso in China really summed up the difference between them let alone the race. It doesn't really matter that the team is geared around Alonso IMO......if Nelson had the bur...

Reject Engines...

Has anyone got any good suggestions for a list of Reject Engines used in Formula One? Those that were disasterous, underpowered or plain rubbish.....Life W12, Porsche V12, Subaru Flat-12 perhaps?? For starters id like to submit the "Motori-Moderni V6 Turbo" as used by Minardi in 1986 &...
