Re: Olivier Grouillard (Mansell's Nemesis)
It is true that the only thing I remember about Pirro apart from hitting the big polystrene block are two mega-blocking incidents when being lapped; first on Boutsen when he was leading the 1989 Australian GP so Nannini in the other Benetton could catch up (I always pictured Irvine doing this if he ...

Re: Olivier Grouillard (Mansell's Nemesis)
Grouillard nearly took Mansell out in the closing stages at Imola 1992 but Mansell had worse clashes IMO with Phillipe Alliot (Portugal 1990) and De Cesaris (Imola 1990).

Re: Unusual F1 Stats
I was watching the 1985 season review a few days ago, and the thought occurred to me it was possible that there might be a podium where all three drivers have since died - given that the season had Senna, De Angelis, Lauda and Alboreto in competitive cars (also De Cesaris, Bellof, and Manfred Winke...

I don't remember Trulli really doing anything either in '07 though so maybe it was just an all-round bad year for Toyota? I mean both Trulli and Glock got some podiums in their lasty 2 years, Glock would always be remembered for Brazil and they had a few forays near the front then!

Here's one - dates of Sunday have fallen on the same dates in 2011, 2016 and 2022 - the only 3 years Hamilton had finished behind his teammate in the points. (ie in all 3 years Monaco was on 29th May and Spa was on 28th August). So the same shouldn't happen again next year or indeed the rest of his ...

Schumi/Latifi looked so amateurish it was pure reject gold so has to be that, but biggest DHM is Mercedes - back to earth with a bang for them.
And yes, I was hoping Max would help Checo more than he did but the counter-argument is 15 wins in a season, that might never be done again!

I'm actually going to say Leclerc believe it or not - after qualifying I though Checo had 2nd in the WDC all wrapped up!
Also honourable mention to Norris for someone outside the top 3 teams getting a fastest lap.

Looking through the early pages of this thread, it seems that the mid 00s was a golden era for forgettable drivers. I mean 2003 - 2006 alone had all these star names: Gene Firman Pizzonia Kiesa Da Matta Klien Zonta Pantano Bruni Liuzzi Friesacher Doornbos Albers Montagny Yamamoto. I'd even suggest t...

On a similar principal, I always feel Ralf Schumacher would be much more favorably looked upon now if he hadn't been related to another driver. I mean Montoya is now highly praised and him and Ralf were always closely matched.

I always think Heidfeld, Hulkenberg, Sutil and Glock all sort of roll into one big German good but not great - metronomic points-scorers but never winners. Indeed looking back Rosberg was probably also in danger of dropping to that category in his earlier Williams and early Mercedes (pre-Hamilton) d...

The only argument I get for The Hulk is he'll trash the car less than Schumi Jnr.
However it would leave only McLaren and Alpha Tauri as the only F1.5 teams he HASN'T drive for.

Genuinely in a quandary here between Max (seen some very worrying nasty personal traits in him lately. Danny Ric was just clumsy but he's more in running for ROTY at this p...

I'll give another HM to Vettel for his radio message when Stroll pushed him on the grass in the sprint. Just "OK" was genius. (Compare that with Alonso who'd be ranting and raving - looking forward to next year already with that one!)>

I also don't get this theory that Max's refusal to let Checo back through was about Monaco. I had to look at the race results again and it was a Ferrari front row. Why would Checo deliberately crash if he was behind both Ferraris? Was hardly a Rosberg in 2014 situation where only he or Hamilton coul...

I will add that I can't say the same about Ferrari not getting Sainz to let Leclerc though at the end - Alonso and Verstappen (though he should have been dropping back to let Checo through) were too close to Leclerc for Ferrari to switch easily.

If Danny Ric's first-lap contact with K-Mag hadn't been so clumsy then Max would have got this for me - if he needs Checo's help in a tight championship fight next year will Checo be so quick to help him again? All for a 6th place. Talk about burning bridges.

Gotta be Russell for me - I honestly never though it would be him who ended Mercedes' win drought rather than Hamilton.
HMs - Alonso - beating both Red Bulls
K-Mag - OK he was never going to hold it but FRiday was brilliant.
Bottas - best non-works driver (if you count Alpine as a works team)

I totally get why Merc did that strategy with Hamilton; they needed to do it to avoid being undercut by Checo. Russell on the other hand had nothing to lose; he had a massive gap to the Ferraris and nothing to lose by rolling the dice. Only thing it might have done was upset Hamilton

And we all think Max winning 14 races for real is boring lol. At least next year looks interesting now with all 6 drivers from the top 3 teams out and I see no reason for that pecking order to change unless Ferrari have another shocker. Merc strategy. At least split it! If they're trying to catch Ferrari for 2nd in the constructors then that would cost them 2023 wind tunnel time. :-) Ferrari You would not think they had a 46-point lead at one point, it feels like they've just given up now. I always wonder what went wrong with Hakkinen in 2001. I mean he proved he still had it at Barcelona, Silverstone and Indy but so many times he was nowhere. I mean Nurburgring he was only like a second ahead of Irvine's Jag at the end!!
