Re: BOSS GP

Yes you're absolutely right about the historic scenes Faustus. Naturally the historic gp cars don't have "original" components as that would be pretty impossible really with engine lifespan etc. but I guess the point I'm trying to make is I that I don't think people would want to see a Lot...

Re: 1989 vintage reject year

Yeah I think there were 39 entrants at some grand prix that year. Martin Brundle has said that at Rio the Brabham team were housed in a canvas toilet tent until one of the teams who had a garage failed to pre-qualify and vacated.

Re: BOSS GP

I take your point and see the logic of doing that but if you change all those components you're not running a 1997 Benetton. Just something that looks a bit like one. Sorry if I sound like a smart-arse. That's why I don't really see the attraction of the series. I enjoyed seeing the 7Up Jordan in ac...

Re: 1989 vintage reject year

Embarrasingly, I always thought the '89 Zakspeed was a good-looking car. It's a shame its Yamaha V8 had been pinched from a lawnmower. Loved the Onyx/Moneytron too. God, I love rubbish racing cars.....

Re: Ponderbox

Yep could work. I remember when tyre stops were an unexpected surprise at some circuits. TV commentators like Murray Walker, James Hunt and even Jackie Stewart used to get very excited when cars would pit for tyres. That went for the late '70s all the way through into the turbo era. First of all the...

Re: Ponderbox

Yeah I realise they could never have built their own engines and transmissions but they'd have known from testing how far they'd be off the big boys' laptimes. Just don't get the cost to return ratio. Oh well, best ask them I guess! Some of those kit cars looked great though!

Re: Hello everyone! New members' check in desk

Sorry, very rude, I should have introduced myself. My name is Andy and I'm 35 from London. Been watching F1 since 1992 and have a love of both the modern era and the great history of this sport. I'm mad about the historic F1 scene and go to Brands and Silverstone every year to see the cars of the '6...

Hi I'm new around here and have posted a new topic that's been bumped off to the "Ponderbox thread". Where the hell's that?! :?

Why did they bother in the 70s?

Hi, this is my first post on here and wanted to field a question that has played on my mind every time I watch old F1 stuff. Why did so many privateer teams go down the kit-car/Cosworth DFV/Hewland gearbox route in the 70s hoping for success that had little or no chance of arriving. Teams like Troja...

Re: BOSS GP

Never really got this series. Why bother to buy a '97 Benetton only to call it something else, repaint it and then rip its guts out (engine and gearbox). Likewise I remember seeing they'd taken the Yamaha V10 out of Tyrrell and shoved a Ford in the back. Now, the Historic F1 stuff and Historic GP Ma...
