Re: Looks Like Kimi Is Surely Out Now

If it's about sponsorship and decent machinery next year then Brawn has to be the answer for Alonso - a decent car looking for a lead sponsor? The Santander/Brawn/Mercedes team with Alonso and Button.
ps. Before any of the forum prefects make comment: I did think about this before I posted it.

Re: deliciously intriguing . . . . . . .

That is indeed an interesting and intriguing article, but it's worth remembering it's one mans guesswork and conjecture. I personally think Michael did the right thing and retired not necessarily at the top, but before his performances started to be embarrassing. I'm in two minds about the 'comeback...

Re: What type of driver should a new team be going for?

I know! How about a 7-time World Champion, record holder for number of victories and pole-positions and that's been out of the sport for close to 3 years now? Well done Carlos - I made this point on another thread with regard to Toyota - pay a world champion a pile of money to bring your team on (a...

Re: Ferrari vs. Williams

I think applying this rule to Schuey's situation is a bit mean - the rest of the field have had the season to get to know there cars. I wouldn't put it past any team given the chance to use a test for car development but what's wrong with giving the guy a day of testing?

Re: Where would you want a US GP to be held

Do the Americans want F1 - even with their own team next season? With memories of '05 still fresh in their minds I doubt it. Indy would be great if they sorted the crappy infield section. Isn't there some issue about the corkscrew at Laguna Seca? I recall Road America from CART races there and it se...

I guess if Toyota and Renault had withdrawal in the pipeline then it would be a damn sight easier to announce now.
If they've signed up to next year can they be fined for withdrawing?

Re: Zero, to Hero, to - where?

To Button's/Brawn's advantage it looks like race wins are going to be a squabble between the improving McLarens/Ferarris and both the Red Bull drivers. Maybe de-mod the car back to it's Turkey spec and play damage limitation to albeit an unspectacular championship win.

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Hungary!

Actually I think Nicole looks like she could be a relative, in which case her presence could be excused on the grounds that you can't choose your family.
I nominate Flav for leaving the circuit when one of his drivers was still in the race - that kind of thing must make Piquet feel wonderful.

Re: To Read

I've no doubt that the car's the star this year but at the same time I've always liked Button. I like his Prost-like ultra-neat driving style. I think his dignified demeanor in the lean years shows a great deal of maturity. I hope he wins it this year - he's a nice guy and he'll make a worthy champi...

Re: Hungarian GP dicussion

I'm not convinced Brawn will have it their own way despite the hot weather - I think Red Bull have made some advances. I'd like to see Button win to keep his title hopes on track. It could also be an indicator as to Rubens' state of mind after his recent outburst. And I agree - Lewis for a wildcard.

Re: Most Forgettable Drivers

Zanardi (purely on F1 performances) Mika Salo (middle of the road performer) Cristiano Da Matta was probably better than Zonta, arguably better than Panis was at the time, though nowhere near as good as Olivier in his prime. If it wasn't for his frequent media appearances and nationality, Anthony D...

Re: Is Fisichella really as bad as people say he is?

I think he's ok, and ego-wise he wouldn't be the first driver to think he has world championship potential when he clearly hasn't. However the facts are that he's 36 years of age and mostly at the back half of the grid. Maybe that half-decent car of his will afford him a few more flashes before he r...

Re: Racing lines

Cheers noisebox for the link to the previous thread. I think it's a good idea: a once per race opportunity which would allow drivers to pass Jarno Trulli's er sorry I mean back markers. And for anyone who thought it would spoil the racing - er what racing?

Racing lines

Does anyone recall the idea a few years back that F1 drivers would be given a choice as to which part of a chicane they could use in an effort to encourage overtaking? I'm always reminded of this idea at turns 13/14 at the Nurburgring. I thought it was a great idea if only to stop cars being held up...

Re: Quality of the Current Grid

What I think we have is an awful lot of average - it's like saying because someone's at the top of the 2nd division they're world class. Everyone's talking about the improved cars when a race is won in one. Button and Webber suddenly elevated to championship winning material. I don't think so. Put a...

Toyota for being the Coventry City* of Formula 1. Endless technical changes in the futile pursuit of leveling the field. The 2005 US GP farce.
*For those not familiar with English league football, Coventry City FC hung about in the top division for millions of years only ever winning one trophy.

A response to other threads about the demise or re-designing of certain racetracks (Hockenheim, Fuji, Magny Cours), does anyone else think that Barcelona is a mickey-mouse circuit these days?
