Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Austria 2022

Schumacher slam-dunks this for me. Saw flashes of his father in there with his reaction after the sprint!

Can't really think of a 2nd vote TBH, maybe Haas as a whole as Magnussen was just behind making it their best 2-car result in quite some time.

Re: The Gravel Trap on midfield F1 drivers

Oh and I agree it was definitely the denying Kubica a race seat with Sirotkin, rather than his replacing Massa who was meant to retire a year earlier anyway! Some more for me: Heidfeld not getting a full time seat in 2010 (was PDLR who'd been out of racing for 3 years really a better bet?) and losin...

Re: The Gravel Trap on midfield F1 drivers

A couple I felt in the 90s were Mark Blundell not getting a seat for 1996, then Martin Brundle not getting one in 1997, despite the fact he was near retirement age, I don't think he actually wanted to. Though looking back I do feel Blundell definitely fits into the category you're citing, maybe Brun...

Checo was classified in Bahrain but didn't see the flag IIRC. Russell, Hamilton and Ocon are the only 3 still in at this point.

Ferrari really do slam-dunk it but on any other day Alpha Tauri duct-taping Tsunoda's rear wing would be reject gold.

Ferrari power units also screwed Zhou's best showing so far.

Both Canadian drivers, McLaren's team strategy and Mercedes porpoising are big DHMs too.

If nobody could get RotR for 2 (or more) successive races than it's a relief it didn't exist in 1996 because I'm sure Ferrari would have got it 3 times in a row then (Canada, France, Britain) - both cars retired within a few laps each time including 2 false starts for Schumacher!

Not so much for this race in isolation but I think a lot of teams' perceived second drivers are doing really well lately, such as: Checo - if he'd been allowed to win in Spain too, he'd be just a single point behind Max. Red Bull might get another Vettel/Webber situation soon. Sainz - fought back w...

The 2 British youngsters - the country is going to be in top hands even when Hamilton retires.

Ferrari save Leclerc has got to win this hands down for me. I don't have a problem with Red Bull doing what they did - they're in a proper fight with Ferrari and possibly now Mercedes too, it's a no-brainer to "max"imise Verstappen's points. This was no Austria 2002. Ferrari need to do the...

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Miami 2022

Verstappen is now the driver I most expect to win any given race - this century it's been Schumacher, then Alonso, then Vettel then Hamilton, now Max - so him winning a race is therefore almost normal rather than anything IIDOTR worthy. Not that it takes anything away from this performance but I sti...

I should always wait to look on the Monday on Autosport to see which driver got the lowest mark out of 10 as that should base the RotR decision, and it was Alonso (he got 3, Schumacher got 4). Albon is doing wonderfully at the moment so he gets my #1 vote, just a shame he couldn't beat Alonso after the penalty. Second vote goes to Russell, I did NOT expect another top 5 position after qualifying for him. At this rate Hamilton will have to support him. ;-)

If it hadn't have been for Hamilton I'd have said Ferrari for choking at home - though the way the championship is going, their errors are far more costly than anything Hamilton was or wasn't doing!

Schumacher, Zhou, Latifi and Ricciardo are all being obliterated by their teammates too.

Red Bull get this hands down, but for everyone saying McLaren, it might be more appropriate to say Mercedes-powered cars in general, as the works team were a clear third, and the 3 customer teams filled the last 6 places on the road (obviously the Red Bulls were classified behind them). Some recompense for Hamilton is to think back to 2008 and an equally dodgy safety car (not at the last race, but in Singapore) - without that, Massa would have probably won the race, and with it would have had enough points in hand in Brazil for the Glock situation to have been completely irrelevant...

Getting Bottas bac...
