Max Verstappen Even in the era of Formula 1.5, last to 2nd is not to be scoffed at.

Most of the other candidates either binned it late on or got held up by stopping too early but Sainz is still worth a look.

Going to say the late rain. Obviously subjective, but imo a rare case where it made the race worse.

I'll also give an honourable mention to the "Dummy Pitstop" rule. It didn't make a difference in the end cos of the rain, but this rule should either be enforced or scrapped.

Alpha Tauri for ending their interesting in their home race within 3 laps or so in the era of ultra reliability. Also look at Mazepin for continuing to demonstrate that he's a massive twat. Not going for HAM & VER, cos as stupid as the crash was, the race was much more fun with that happening.

I'd go with McLaren for a solid 'best of the rest' day and overhauling the rest of the midfield, even on two different strategies.

The drivers on the podium are the obvious calls. I'd put Seb and Gasly well ahead of Perez for IIDOTR though, cos Perez is in a race winning car. With Verstappen out and Merc choking, he should win. That's part of his job at that team.
