Re: Murray Walker (1923 - 2021)
I'm not sure why it's a particular favourite of mine, certainly it never seems to turn up in clips montages, but Johansson 3 wheeling his way to the line at Hockenheim in 87 to the sound of 'Look at that! This is absolutely unbeLIEVable!' is one I always love to see.

Re: Murray Walker (1923 - 2021)
I don't have many race recordings from the 90s but I will check if I can find that quote. Murray was the soundtrack to my childhood, I don't think I would've got into F1 without his commentaries, and I certainly wouldn't have got a feel for the joy and wonder of broadcasting and later decide that th...

Jim Rosenthal does voiceovers now mainly - he's the voice of Union Jack's various radio stations.
He did also make a cameo (voice only) appearance in his son's sitcom 'Friday Night Dinner' as.....an F1 commentator!

The unreliability was the best thing, I don't suppose that will last for long but it was nice to have a race that was more like the old days of random breakages.

I guess they just wanted to go to a country with a safe attitude to coronavirus (so that's the UK out straight away...) where they could be based in one place with - I assume - good facilities nearby. At least they can reconfigure the track, though I'm not sure why they want to get all 6 races done ...

Styria's only border with another country is with....Slovenia, so there's your designation for the second race in Austria!!!

Mostly because the nepotism is fairly open. Abt is arguably one of the weakest drivers in the field, if he wasn't part of his family, he would've lost his job quite some time ago. In fact, it makes you wonder whether Audi are glad to have a chance to get rid of him without causing unnecessary frict...

Can't disagree with most of the Top 10 list, though I also think Zolder may have found its way into the 'also rans' section, if only for the 2 disastrous consecutive races, the sheer processional nature of many of the races, and (unless I've misremembered this) that drivers and journos had about as ...

Even more mystifying that Sky were bothering with the European GP 99 at all given that it's now on the F1TV Youtube channel too! I still have that and the Japanese GP 94 to rewatch, having tackled the 2 96 races (Monaco is always fun, though not much happens in the Spanish one tbh) and the 'You hit ...

Raymond Baxter was certainly the BBC's regular F1 commentator until the late 70s - it should be his voice you hear on commentaries (admittedly mainly the British GP at the time) but I have heard Murray on some pieces of old footage that he wouldn't have done live at the time. It has to be said that ...

In the absence of live motorsport, what are we watching at the moment? The commentary on the 1982 video in particular, especially regarding the deaths of Villeneuve and Paletti (in the days when nasty footage wasn't shied away from) is brilliant, but all his contributions on F1 and other topics were rarely less than entertaining.

Weren't they just a couple of seconds off each other on track? And what a surprise that Sky F1 instantly leapt to Max's defence saying that he may have gone fast enough in the rest of the sector and still slowed down even though that was clearly utter nonsense. It's also all very well saying 'yes, but it doesn't matter as he was fastest anyway' because he now h...

There's being safe and mollycoddling and F1 is definitely the latter these days - those formation laps were a complete waste of time, they should have just started. And given that Perez was right by an escape road, why not throw a virtual safety car?!
