Peter Gas Leak gets my vote. Alonso was good but he's had 2nds this year already so it wasn't massively unexpected.

1. Yuki
2. I'll say Nando - they were looking like 5th best team in Hungary but beat a Mercedes and a McLaren here

Re: 2023 Discussion Thread
I'm kind of thinking the season is obviously over so that clean sweep could actually be something that keeps interest up. Though I do think in 1988 had McLaren done it without Schlesser's contribution it would have been a far bigger achievement as reliability wasn't half as good as it is these days,...

Re: Champion elimination alternative championship
Having more than half the field eliminated is mental but I guess part of the reason for that is teams seemingly preferring experienced drivers like Haas and now Alpha Tauri. Indeed of the bottom 4 teams, all of them have a driver eliminated with Albon and Bottas completing the group.

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Hungary 2023
I will tie it between Red Bull for breaking the consecutive wins record (yes it was boring but that doesn't happen everyday. I thought McLaren's 1988 record would never be broken) and McLaren themselves because I didn't expect them to carry over their Silverstone form here. But both are kinda tenuou...

Go for something a bit different - the British weather. Denied us an exciting finish to the Ashes (which would have been far more exciting than the race)! Otherwise all Ferrari-engined cars - the works team for looking totally amateurish again, Haas just going backwards and Alfa Romeo scoring a mass...

Re: Biggest drop-offs in performance over a season
Having had Big Zeddie cover 2000 on YouTube, and me do an alternative championship for that year along with it (ie lose Ferrari and McLaren and see what you're left with) - Fisichella scored 49 points up to Canada and 3 for the rest of the year

Re: 2023 Discussion Thread
Never thought De Vries should have been in that seat anyway - he's essentially a Mercedes man and having him in their arch-rivals' squad didn't really fit for me. If anything he should have been in a Williams. Checo better watch it!

Re: Reject of the Race - Austria 2023
I find it quite interesting that Hamilton has got countless shouts for airing his frustrations over the team radio, but not a single shout for Sainz for his pathetic attempts to get a penalty for Perez. It wasn't great but at least Fred didn't have to tell Carlos off like Toto did, PLUS he could sa...

Hmm - I want to say Hamilton but he did say what everyone was thinking about RB dominance at the start of the weekend, except he enjoyed a similar period himself. Re: 2023 Discussion Thread
Checo to me is a lot like Fisichella - great in midfield cars but struggles at a top team when they're up against a truly great driver in Max or Alonso for Fisi. But I still think RB will struggle to find a better #2 - he did help Max after all in 2021 when it was a close run thing and this year Max...

The incident between De Vries and Magnussen was good old-fashioned rejectfulness. :D I thought exactly the same, I was laughing at them both trying to rejoin :-) Otherwise DHMs to Russell, Perez and Stroll though they are up against the top 3 drivers in the same cars so always facing a hard task.

Re: Champion elimination alternative championship
I had to go back through this to remind myself when Hulkenberg won (because he obviously isn't in the 2023 line-up). I'm stunned it was as early as 2012 as I don't remember him doing that much that year apart from Brazil when he was battling for the lead with the McLarens. Just lots of minor points ...

Zhou was the only one who finished much higher than you would expect, once Tsunoda's penalty kicked in.
Yes Mercedes improved but still nearly half a minute off Max so not where they need to be still.

I didn't vote for him, but seeing Russell as an option made me remember something which I thought was quite hilarious - him being repeatedly on the blower to the team to get him let past Lewis to try and protect him from his penalty, only to finish 12 seconds behind him at the end - has shades of Oc...

You know what, I never thought I'd say this but I'm going to give an HM to Max as well. Worryingly for the others (and for all the fans who want a close fight like me) he's also added maturity to all his other strengths - I reckon even up to 2021 he'd have lost that race in those conditions, I could...

Re: Reject of the Race - Monaco 2023
It's a toss-up between: Checo - the most costly in that it waves goodbye to any hopes we had of a championship battle. Effectively became a guinea pig for Max in the changing conditions. Stroll - if the team have got serious top-contending aspirations then the owner's son is becoming a liability. Al...

Ocon and indeed the Alpine team - nice to have a fifth team in there in the hunt for podiums at least - hopefully they can make the big 4 a big 5 (or the chasing 3 a chasing 4 instead). Also McLaren showed some good pace at the end too. I will say at Monaco more often than not that cream usually ris...

Actually I'll elaborate - I feel 2002 WAS worse. What if Damon Hill had joined Jordan a year earlier? Probably would have scored their first win a year early, given how good the Jordan was in 1997, no offence to Ralf or Fisichella but a more experienced driver certainly could and would have won a race. I said the same on Big Zeddie's YouTube chan...

Stroll to be out of the points when his teammate is on the podium was just about the only thing standout here. I think De Vries got mega overhyped after his performance at Monza last year - it was one race on a circuit which suited the Williams and it was only Latifi in the other car so probably just luck rather than anything else. But Yuki is wiping the floor with him!

Has to be Yuki really. A Red Bull 1-2 even if it was the opposite way round to what was expected thought it was a specialist circuit for Checo, the chasing 3 teams covering 3rd to 8th and Lando top of F1.5 is all expected I guess.
