Re: RIP Sir Jack Brabham

Very sad news, RIP. It is important that as many stories, memories and anecdotes from the older generations are collected before it's too late. It won't be many years down the line before very few of the chaps from the 50s and 60s will be left and we need to make sure we remember them in the best po...

So I'll be doing the British GP again this year, after one of my mates double-booked himself for Le Mans, and today I went and bought a nice England flag which will be a canvas to show my appreciation of Max's performances. Nah it's a pretty old-fashioned continent-wide 'song' competition - running since the 50s during the first push for a European identity - supposedly voted on by the public but heavily criticised for political blok voting (e.g. former Soviet states all voting for each other). In the 3 years that HRT raced in Formula 1, the only driver who managed to finish a race on the lead lap was Pedro de la Rosa. He did so once at the 18th race of 2012, Abu Dhabi, finishing 17th and last on the lead lap. 1m 11.778s behind winner Kimi Raikkonen. That was the only time in 56 Grands Pr...

Couldn't it just be that many people remember Roland Ratzenberger easier than the Paletti's of this world because, he's got an increadibly cool sounding name? Down to the proximity to Senna's, and that it came in the 'modern' hyper-commercialised, Bernified era of F1. His car was sponsored by MTV l...
