Re: FIA confirms new F1 superlicence points system
I imagine that it would be sustained by second-tier drivers who could potentially make it in Formula 1, but wouldn't necessarily be the first choice for a drive.

Re: FIA confirms new F1 superlicence points system
I am not entirely sure if bringing the series under their control would actually reduce costs in GP2 - one of the main complaints about cost inflation in GP2 is the fact that the component suppliers have a monopoly on the series and can therefore charge more or less what they want for spare parts, ...

Re: FIA confirms new F1 superlicence points system
Perhaps that could be solved by the introduction of a second-tier licence - a prerequisite of a superlicence and needed to get into the top feeder series.

Re: FIA confirms new F1 superlicence points system
I'm very curious to see how the FIA structure this new Formula 2 championship. The biggest problem with GP2 is that its ranks are full of pay drivers to the point where Formula 1 teams are recruiting drivers like Kvyat and Bottas straight out of GP3. If the trend continues, the GP2 is just going to ...

Or maybe the delay is because everyone stops working for two weeks over Christmas.
Remember, there is the concession that will allow them to use the CT05 chassis, so there is less pressure to get physically ready.

Re: FIA confirms new F1 superlicence points system
And the FIA want it separate from the usual open-wheel feeder series. If they made it a series worth superlicence points, they would risk undermining the series by turning it into another feeder series rather than a genuine platform for the development of electric vehicles. Anyway, here is a list of...

Re: FIA confirms new F1 superlicence points syatem
The whole thing is a big "f*** you" to Renault and it's championships, and basically forces drivers into the FOM-run feeder series of GP3 and GP2, or even more biased, the FIA's own series FR3.5 has become horribly unstable. Teams are stepping in and out of the series, or they're only ent...

As Keith Collantine pointed out on Twitter, the traditional Formula 1 fan's New Years' celebrations are to: 1) Sing Auld Lyne Sang 2) Nurse a hangover 3) Read stories about McLaren changing their livery Although I can see the rationale in this case - Honda have traditionally run white and red livery...

Just like McLaren's colours of the 1980s and early 1990s! Just like McLaren-Honda in 1988! How could they not adopt those colours for 2015?!?!?! Tobacco advertising laws would get in the way. Cheaper? Not a chance. Sure, they cost less - but the manufacturers will jack the price up to recoup some of their losses on the hybrid V6s. And again, they will face opposition from the likes of Mercedes and Honda. They might argue that it's to cut costs, but Mercedes will take it as an attack on t...

I doubt he could even count on Ferrari's support. Marchionne has said that Ferrari need to embrace change if they want to get back on top, so I'd say the days of bullying the FIA into doing their bidding from inside a hollowed-out volcano will be over sooner rather than later.

If he tried that, he'd face an insurrection. He might get the popular support of Ferrari and Renault, but Mercedes and Honda would likely walk away on the spot.
