Re: Dangerous F1 cars

To mario: Oh, I see. Hmmph. The publications I read certainly like fudging with the dates just to make an article. Thank you for clearing that up, anyhow. That's odd: the power band was that narrow? Never knew that. And to you, ibsey, excellent work finding that article. Isn't it weird how today the...

Re: Dangerous F1 cars

A non-reject example that springs to mind from my aforementioned favorite era is the Brabham BT52, especially in its legendary qualifying trim. In a world without ground effects, a power-weight ratio of 3000 HP/tonne would be terrifying to try to rein in, especially in the wet. I've seen rFactor sim...

Re: The "stupid suggestions and how to make them work" threa

I think they should look at the possibility of an engine revving to 20000 rpm, have the limiter on it, but at any given point in the race, a team has the option, if they so wish, to temporarily remove it for a period of five laps. This would be similar to a batting powerplay in one day cricket. The...

Bernie's masterplan: play in the circuit's speakers the sound of the old V10s. Everyone's happy. End. While flooding the track with sprinklers at dawn... Re: Good Cars Hampered For Some Reason Or Another

Oh, really? Figures my knowledge of those years was that spotty. ...admittedly, my knowledge of the 1982 season is limited to some snarky recaps of the races at Long Beach and Monaco. What other year, if any, did the 126C series run that funky asymmetrical, extra-wide wing? Perhaps the one I was loo...

Re: Good Cars Hampered For Some Reason Or Another

In my mind, the 126C2 had the makings of a good F1 car to break the cycle of almosts and downright failures from 1979 to 2000 but never lived up to the promise. It had the speed to quite possibly take on the Brabhams, but weird wings, lacking chassis dynamics and other things killed whatever advanta...

I always thought that the Lambo was a remarkable looking car. Martin Brundle once said that a good looking car is rarely slow - whereas a slow car is often pig ugly (see Damon Hill's 1992 Brabham). The Lambo was classy. I particularly like the sidepods. Remember that Lola from 1997? That hit every ...
