Nope, it's free to do. There are two (this being the first) to help you assess potential new drivers or just give someone a run-out. You don't have to do it if you don't want to, but it's there if you think it might be of use.

I've changed the terms a bit so anyone who already has relatively young drivers in their cars can opt to give them a bit more experience behind the wheel.

Lineups for the post-Barber YDT must be submitted by the 28th January, if you wish to attend. I've revised the rules a little, so keep an eye out for that.

Indy 500-only entries must be submitted by the 10th February. Currently, a few Mazda supplies are going spare, so people who have submitted entries can improve their chances by swapping over.

If you missed the last race, you can find it here. This seems like the easiest way for me to cover the races, since streaming has been slow when testing and the events are too long for live comms in chat. If you have any suggestions for improvement or to streamline the recording process, please let me know.

INDYCAR.COM wrote:Stroll walks to victory in Alabama

Chip Ganassi Racing has once again made it to Victory Lane in Indycar this season, as rookie Lance Stroll put in an assured performance to bring home a second win for the team.

Starting 3rd on the grid, Stroll was one of the early front-runners in the race along with polesitter Graham Rahal and Sergio Perez. The Mexican took an early lead following a neat pass on Rahal, and started to build a comfortable margin over the field. Stroll also passed Rahal a few laps later, and inherited the lead as Perez was forced to retire with electrical issues.

The Canadian youngster set about defending from Rahal, and was given some welcome respite as the American fluffed his lines a couple of laps before his pit-stop and dropped back. Stroll's race was not without worry, as his Chevrolet engine required a quick reset during his pitstop following a sensor issue. However, he was rarely challenged in the remainder of the race and took a comfortable first Indycar win.

Will Power finished 2nd for Team Penske and Rahal recovered to 3rd, inheriting a podium place following Ryan Hunter-Reay's spin in the second half of the race.

Because we've not had too many Indy 500 entries forthcoming, I think I'll call the deadline now since I need to slowly start with preparations for it (replicating everything I have in rFactor accurately will take time).

As such, the Indy 500 entry list is as follows:

2. Simon Pagenaud (FRA) - Team Penske - Honda
3. Will Power (AUS) - Team Penske - Honda
4. Sébastien Bourdais (FRA) - KVSH Racing - Honda
5. Sergio Pérez (MEX) - Schmidt-Peterson Motorsports - Chevrolet
6. Jack Harvey (GBR) - Underhill Motorsports - Chevrolet
7. Karun Chandhok (IND) - Schmidt-Peterson Motorsports - Chevrolet
8. Ryan Hunter-Reay (USA) - Chip Ganassi Racing - Chevrolet
9. Lance Stroll (CAN) - Chip Ganassi Racing - Chevrolet
10. Carlos Muñoz (COL) - Chip Ganassi Racing - Chevrolet
11. Simona de Silvestro (SUI) - KVSH Racing - Honda
12. Thomas De Bock (BEL) - Team Penske - Honda
14. Max Chilton (GBR) - A. J. Foyt Enterprises - Mazda
15. Graham Rahal (USA) - Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing - Chevrolet
16. Esteban Guerrieri (ARG) - Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing - Chevrolet
18. Josef Newgarden (USA) - Dale Coyne Racing - Honda
19. Gabby Chaves (COL) - Dale Coyne Racing - Honda
20. Ed Carpenter (USA) - Ed Carpenter Racing - Honda
21. Ryan Briscoe (AUS) - Ed Carpenter Racing - Honda
22. James Hinchcliffe (CAN) - Team Penske - Honda
24. Sage Karam (USA) - Dreyer & Reinbold Racing - Chevrolet
26. Felipe Massa (BRA) - Andretti Autosport - Mazda
27. Marco Andretti (USA) - Andretti Autosport - Mazda
28. Kyle Kaiser (USA) - Andretti Autosport - Mazda
34. Dave Anderson (USA) - Sentinel Motorsports - Mazda
35. AJ Allmendinger (USA) - Michael Shank Racing - Chevrolet
41. Collin Pratchett (USA) - A. J. Foyt Enterprises - Mazda
55. Jack Christopherson (GBR) - Christopherson Racing - Honda
63. Sam Hornish Jr. (USA) - Dale Coyne Racing - Honda
64. Ashley Cassidy (USA) - Cassidy Racing - Chevrolet
65. Raffaele Marciello (ITA) - Cassidy Racing - Chevrolet
70. Al Unser Jr. (USA) - Galles Racing - Chevrolet
72. Helio Castroneves (BRA) - Michael Bright Racing - Mazda
77. Katherine Legge (GBR) - Grace Autosport - Honda
83. Scott Dixon (NZL) - Chip Ganassi Racing - Chevrolet
91. Buddy Lazier (USA) - Lazier Partners Racing - Mazda
98. Colton Herta (USA) - Andretti Herta Autosport - Mazda

This means that the Kenneth Price Racing, Eaglesport and Newman-Haas entries have not been accepted.

Q. But you said the 10th of February, I was waiting for a bit to enter!
A. Yeah, but then I realised I'd have to paint new liveries since I'm doing this in rFactor. You can try again next season.

Q. Why didn't you accept my entry?
A. Canonical realism. The entries I accepted were chosen out of the most realistic from a real-life and canon standpoint. However, these will be counted as reserve entries.

What I need next is the following:

All full-time teams may run a special one-off livery for the Indy 500. From the videos, you should have an idea of how your car looks, and you may want to do a variation of that. As long as the new livery has some kind of tangible link to your sponsor (so for example, AJ Foyt could run a different Coca-Cola brand on the #41) then that's fine. Non-submission of the following form will imply that you intend to run your normal livery.

All one-off teams and reserve entries must submit the form below before the 1st March. If I do not receive this form by then, your Indy 500 entry will be passed over to the next entry on the reserve list, the order of which is Kenneth Price Racing and then Eaglesport. The third Dale Coyne entry may fill the form in, but can opt just to use the regular in-season livery too. (Newman-Haas will not be accepted on the grounds that neither Newman nor Haas are with us.)

Code: Select all

Team Name:
Car No.:
Regular entry or one-off?:
Livery idea:
Sponsors (if one-off entry):
Alternate sponsor (if regular entry):

There's also a livery template here if you want to do your own; just make to use the correct engine supplier layer.

Any other questions, ask away. Any complaints, feel free to PM Aerond and he'll get back to you.

motorsport.com wrote:Ganassi make it three after Power misfortune

Carlos Munoz capitalised on Penske mechanical issues in order to win the 43rd Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, claiming his second race win of the season.

Polesitter Simon Pagenaud got a poor start and fell behind Graham Rahal, Will Power and a collection of other drivers at the first corner. Having taken an early lead, Rahal proceeded to dictate the pace through the streets of Long Beach before his Chevrolet lost power; the American had to retire just a few laps after Pagenaud in the first half of the race.

Power assumed the lead from this point on, building a strong lead over the rookie duo of Raffaele Marciello and Lance Stroll. Marciello and Stroll fell behind Munoz during the pitstop phase, creating a three-way battle for 2nd place.

Laps before the second round of stops, Power's suspension snapped on the kerbing before Shoreline Drive, cruelly causing the Penske driver to pull off the circuit. Munoz subsequently inherited the lead, and despite a late charge from Marciello was able to claim Chip Ganassi Racing's third win from three races ahead of the Italian driver.

Stroll came home in 3rd ahead of James Hinchcliffe, who salvaged a 4th for Penske, and Conor Daly for Ed Carpenter Racing.

2019 Airbnb Indycar Series - Round 4 - Qualcomm 500, Auto Club Speedway, Fontana, California

Qualifying

Race Results

motorsport.com wrote:Magnificient Marciello takes victory in the Qualcomm 500

Raffaele Marciello took his first IndyCar victory at the Auto Club Speedway, beating Lance Stroll to the finish line.

Marciello snatched the lead from pole-winner Carlos Munoz and proceeded to dictate the pace from the very beginning. The Cassidy driver saw off early challenges from Stroll and Simon Pagenaud, and drove a well-managed race to secure his maiden win. Stroll had to settle for second, and although his late charge put Marciello under pressure, the Italian would not yield; Stroll's race was the only glimmer of hope in a poor day for Chip Ganassi Racing.

Ashley Cassidy joined her team-mate on the podium, having been unable to make any inroads into Stroll's advantage ahead on-track. The American attempted to undercut the Ganassi driver in the final pit phase, but the Canadian was wise to her strategy and pushed hard before making his own stop.

Simon Pagenaud managed fourth to produce his strongest result of 2019 thus far after a tough opening to the season. The Penske driver was in contention for the lead in the early stages, but the Frenchman elected to play it safe after watching team-mate Will Power sustain a heavy collision with the wall.

Marco Andretti drove an assured race to 5th and produced Mazda's best result since joining the championship, as fellow Mazda-runners Collin Pratchett and Felipe Massa finished behind.

Josef Newgarden and Gabby Chaves spent the day fighting within the top ten, taking home eighth and ninth for Dale Coyne Racing, whilst Thomas De Bock finished 10th for Penske.

2019 championship standings have been updated and are available here.

News & Reaction

autoweek.com wrote:Perez looks for resolution for 2019 woes

Sergio Perez has urged his Schmidt Peterson Motorsports team to "find answers" to his poor start to the season.

2019 is Perez's first IndyCar season and, while the Mexican has clearly had good pace, there have been a number of problems in the first four races which have restricted his ability to score points.

"Okay, so there have been some problems with the car, and this is not good for us" said Perez. "We had a few problems with the new Chevrolet bits, and although we have probably made progress, we still need to find answers to some things.

"It was not the team's fault that I got crashed at Long Beach, but I shouldn't have been this far back on the grid."

indycar.com wrote:Carpenter and Briscoe find resolution to Fontana crash

Following a collision between the two drivers at Fontana, Ed Carpenter and Ryan Briscoe have buried the hatchet after a heated exchange part-way through the Qualcomm 500.

The team-mates made contact only a couple of laps after the first pit phase, causing Carpenter's eponymous outfit plenty of embarrassment as both drivers retired on the sport.

"Ryan and I had some strong words after" said Carpenter to NBCSN. "I think emotions were running high at the time, and us racing together, it's just not something that should happen."

"I think we both just overcooked it a bit, and we were tripping up over each other trying to clear the guys around us. We had the pace for good points, but we messed up big time."

"Luckily it's all good between us, we went out for a drink to clear the air and we vowed never to do make these mistakes again!"

Carpenter hands the #20 back to Conor Daly for the next round in Mexico, which will be hosted at Fundidora Park.

motorsport.com wrote:Power "slightly sore" after Fontana accident

Team Penske's Will Power has announced that he will be fine to take part in the next round of the IndyCar Series following a large accident in the Qualcomm 500.

Coming up to lap the KV Racing of Sebastien Bourdais, Power was greeted by a large "air bumper" as he pulled out of the Frenchman's slipstream, sending the Australian briefly airborne and into the wall. A trip to the medical centre diagnosed Power with a light concussion.

"Obviously it was a big impact, I just tried to get out of Seb's draft and suddenly I lost control." explained Power. "I managed to grab the wheel and lessen the damage, but I was still a passenger."

"The guys at the medical centre took care of me, they said I was fine to race (in Mexico) but had a bit of a concussion. Luckily I'm fine, just slightly sore in a few places!"

Power was in 7th before his retirement in Fontana, and drops to 5th in the overall standings.

motorsport.com wrote:Cassidy claims smash-and-grab win in Mexico

Ashley Cassidy passed Felipe Massa in the dying laps of the Indycar race at Fundidora Park, claiming a second win on the bounce for Cassidy Racing.

The return of Indycar to Mexico brought plenty of fanfare, and the race was just as action-packed. Polesitter Simon Pagenaud got away from the line ahead of Ganassi's Ryan Hunter-Reay, who was passed by team-mate Scott Dixon in short order. Pagenaud proceeded to build a gap over the New Zealander, and seemed to be on-course to convert his front-row spot into a victory.

Following his final pitstop, Pagenaud then lost control of his Penske on cold tyres and although he was able to get going again, he fell behind team-mate Will Power.

Felipe Massa assumed control of the race, after cycling out through the pit phases among the frontrunners thanks to some rapid pitstops from his Andretti team. Towards the end, Cassidy closed in on the Brazilian and made the race-winning past four laps from the end.

Massa finished 2nd, as Ryan Hunter-Reay claimed the final podium position after an early error saw him drop to 5th. Pagenaud limited the damage from his spin with 4th, and team-mate Will Power recovered to 5th after dropping down the field as a result of a problematic first pitstop.

Not a problem.

Furthermore, Miguel98 will take over KV for the rest of the season as Dexter has been removed from his post. Miguel will have the option of bringing in a new team for 2020 as KV are expected to disappear.

autosport.com wrote:KVSH Racing on borrowed time?

KVSH Racing are expected to bow out from the Airbnb IndyCar Series after 2019, following a number of financial issues which have plagued the team's return to US racing.

Following the hiatus of an IndyCar championship, a number of teams were able to resume old commercial partnerships, but KVSH were left to sign new deals after suppliment producer Hydroxycut left the team to join Penske. Team principal Kevin Kalkhoven signed deals with the InterContinental Hotels Group and electronics giant TE Connectivity, but it is believed that their funding has been short of the team's expected outgoings.

It is believed that Carlin and Juncos Racing are angling to step up from Indy Lights, although both operations declined to comment whether they were seeking to replace KVSH.

KVSH are expected to keep Sebastien Bourdais and Simona de Silvestro for the rest of the season, although both will be looking for more secure futures at the end of the year.

2019 Airbnb Indycar Series - Round 6 - Liquor Locker Grand Prix of Indianapolis, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, Indiana

Qualifying

autosport.com wrote:Perez swipes maiden pole for Indianapolis GP

Schmidt-Peterson Racing's Sergio Perez took his first IndyCar pole position on the Indianapolis road course, and will head the grid at the Brickyard for tomorrow's race.

Perez immediately took the fastest time in the first session ahead of Penske's Simon Pagenaud, the Mexican setting a 1m13.695 which would eventually go on to become his ultimate pole time. Pagenaud dropped to 3rd overall in the timesheets as Graham Rahal leapfrogged the Frenchman in the second part of qualifying. Rahal will start alongside Perez, as Pagenaud is joined on the second row by Ganassi's Scott Dixon.

Ashley Cassidy has the opportunity to follow up on her win last time out from 5th place, and will have 2012 IndyCar champion Ryan Hunter-Reay for company on the third row. Josef Newgarden and Will Power occupy 7th and 8th, and Esteban Guerrieri starts an impressive 9th to underline the pace of the Rahal Letterman Lanigan setup.

In a close session, the top ten were all covered by just two tenths, and Conor Daly was the last man to slot into that bracket with a 1m13.889.

Carlos Munoz will have his work cut out to consolidate on his 2nd-place in the championship, and will start from 12th having set exactly the same time as RC Enerson, who returns for Dale Coyne Racing. Fontana victor Raffaele Marciello has work to do from a disappointing 17th, as championship leader Lance Stroll could only manage 22nd fastest.

Race

autosport.com wrote:Rahal wins Indianapolis GP after late Dixon retirement

Graham Rahal snatched a late win at the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, after race leader Scott Dixon suffered a cruel gearbox failure on the penultimate lap.

Dixon led the majority of the 73-lap race, picking up the baton mid-race after polesitter Sergio Perez and Ashley Cassidy both went off on separate occasions. The Ganassi driver was able to keep Rahal at arm's length in the closing stages, holding a steady two-second lead over the American.

As Dixon attempted to lap Marco Andretti, his gearbox dropped into neutral and left the Kiwi with no drive. After a tough first stint in which he fell as low as 7th, Rahal quietly recovered and was on hand to assume control of the race, taking the chequered flag en route to victory lane.

Esteban Guerrieri took a brilliant 2nd place to make the Indianapolis GP one to savour for the Rahal Letterman Lanigan team, and was joined on the podium by Team Penske's Will Power, who like Rahal recovered from a scruffy opening portion of the race to earn a last-minute 3rd place.

Ryan Hunter-Reay came 4th after a quiet afternoon, salvaging something for a distraught Chip Ganassi team, remaining ahead of Perez who recovered to 5th after a pair of spins.

Felipe Massa continued his good form for Andretti, claiming 6th ahead of James Hinchcliffe. Hinchcliffe worked his way through the field after a disappointing qualifying, finishing four seconds ahead of KVSH's Simona de Silvestro.

RC Enerson impressed en route to 9th place, passing Sebastien Bourdais at the death to claim a good result for Dale Coyne Racing, after Josef Newgarden retired after collecting the stricken Penske of Simon Pagenaud, who had stopped with damage on the start-finish straight.

Last weekend's winner Ashley Cassidy recovered to 11th after dropping to the back of the field from the lead.

Oh look, five posts in a row. Time for a new rule:

All full-time teams will earn $10,000 for each news report-style post they make. You may make a maximum of three reports between each race.

I'll slowly begin the Indy 500 things next week.
