Is this okay?

Pay-drivers only pay out money if you decide to forgo the sponsorship signing process for a given car. At this stage, Celis Jr is a regular driver and so will require a wage. Everything else is fine, but you may wish to revise your bids for the Telmex car... ;)

I may change that rule in future series since there's very little incentive to sign a paydriver as-is, but this is how it is for now.

You have until Wednesday 16th November to finish posting bids.

Furthermore, for fictional drivers, submit the base wage as the offer and I will apply the multiplier at the end.

To get Pratchett, I recommend you try to claim him from the RoR thread; should be a mere formality, really.

I'm in the middle of producing the carset for 2019. Whilst this goes on and we wait for the outcome of the Pratchett bid, I'd like to open up entries to the Indy 500.

Indy 500 entries are open to current team owners and those who do not own a team. You can add an extra car to those you already run, or simply add another entry. Only two-car entries may add extra cars to their roster; anyone with a four-car team may enter something different.

There will be a maximum of 36 entries to the Indy 500 (this includes all of the full-time cars, so there are NINE spaces up for grabs), with 33 making the grid.

You do not have to purchase sponsorship to run the event, since this is a one-off. Engines available are as follows (Indy 500 entries will have access to the base units only, and any third cars will use the same engines as the rest of the team).

3x Chevrolet: (TBA, TBA, TBA)
3x Honda: (TBA, TBA, TBA)
4x Mazda: (TBA, TBA, TBA, Lazier Partners)

You may enter by following this entry example below:

Code: Select all

Team Name: Lazier Partners Racing
Car No (try and be realistic, don't use something that's already been used, etc.): 91
Driver: Buddy Lazier
Engine: Mazda

As yet, there is no closing date...it'll depend on how many entries are forthcoming.

101st Indianapolis 500 Guest Entry List:

#91 - Buddy Lazier - Lazier Racing Partners - Mazda (Ataxia)

Would it to late to apply to change my driver lineup slightly? I would like to apply for either Conor Daly or Mike Conway (in that order) to race the 20 in road and street course events. Special Ed himself will remain behind the wheel for the ovals. Is this OK?

Not a problem, although you'll have to put an extra $500k on top of what you're paying Carpenter to reach the minimum wage cap. Although this will put you on $0, both of your sponsors offer bonuses so you should make it up later. I'll run the RNG now and you can make the final call.

Conor Daly
1-60: Takes #20 for road and street.
60-80: Takes drive, but asks for ECR to run a third car for the Indy 500.
81-100: Holds out for full-time drive.

57, Daly will join ECR subject to the final thumbs-up.

Yep, confirmed, will do.

Now we have a full grid, let's have a season preview:

NBCSN wrote:2019 Airbnb Indycar Season Preview with Sunoco

After two years of picking up the pieces left by the F1RICS and Indycar war of 2015-16, Craig Pollock and Tony George have finally been able to return a top-level American series to the motorsport map. The 2019 season essentially picks up from where Indycar left off, and will include the 101st edition of the Indianapolis 500. Many former teams return as well, and are joined by Cassidy Racing, formerly of RICS. With an exciting field of drivers young and old, the 2019 Airbnb Indycar Series looks set to provide a vintage season.

Team Penske
Switching to Honda power, Roger Penske’s men have an incredibly strong lineup. Former champions Will Power and Simon Pagenaud return to Penske, and are joined by James Hinchcliffe who embarks on his sixth season of Indycar competition. Another champion also fills the roster, and comes in the form of former ARWS victor Thomas De Bock.
Hinchcliffe finally gets the opportunity to challenge the champions in the team, and it will be interesting to see if the amiable Canadian can deliver on a higher platform. 2019 will likely be a learning year for De Bock, who has limited experience of oval racing, and it’s expected that Power and Pagenaud in the Verizon cars will lead the line for 2019.

Chip Ganassi Racing
As Penske leave Chevrolet to take the lead Honda contract, Ganassi will receive stronger support from Detroit in 2019. Scott Dixon is the only carry-over from the previous Indycar generation, having returned from a less-than-successful F1 flirtation. Ryan Hunter-Reay and Carlos Munoz are excellent additions to the team having raced together at Andretti, and the fourth seat is occupied by former Formula 3 champion Lance Stroll, who returns to North American racing.
Dixon and Hunter-Reay, in most people’s estimations, will be the focal point of the team’s title chances. However, Munoz should realistically not be too far away after matching RHR on a number of occasions as team-mates. Stroll may struggle in the early season as he adapts to the weightier Indycar package, but has plenty of talent in reserve.

Andretti Autosport
Andretti have decided to go about the rebooted Indycar series a bit differently than they have previously, and thus Marco Andretti remains the only constant in his family team. Felipe Massa makes a return to single-seaters, and his experience will serve to offset the rookie pairing of Kyle Kaiser and Colton Herta.
The team have also dropped Honda and will run with the brand-new Mazda engines, and hopes rest on whether these will be up to speed from the beginning. Massa may need a little time to acclimatise to the rigours of Indycar, but the Brazilian should be capable of big results for the team. Marco is hit-or-miss, and needs to step up to cover any rookie mistakes from Kaiser or Herta. Whilst both debutants have plenty of promise, Indycar will be their sternest challenge yet.

AJ Foyt Enterprises
Like Andretti, Foyt have swapped Honda for Mazda as they seek a pleasant return to Indycar. Max Chilton occupies the #14 in a retro-inspired Renown livery, and although the Brit is not blessed with out-and-out pace he is characterised by near-metronomic consistency. Collin Pratchett returns to the USA after winning the final RICS title in 2016, and will be hoping to get up to speed quickly to claim some strong results. The Foyt team is capable of racking up the points, but will have to fight for them thanks to the strength of the 2019 field.

Schmidt-Peterson Motorsport
Sam Schmidt has gone for an interesting approach in driver selection, and has signed a pair of former F1 drivers to lead his efforts. Sergio Perez and Karun Chandhok were not wild successes in Formula 1, and have come to Indycar to reignite their stagnant careers. The strategic element of Indycar should suit Perez’s game, and the Mexican is able to stretch stints to the limit to gain an advantage over the competition. Chandhok’s racing programs have been sporadic over the past few years, and the Indian driver may struggle a little in the early season. With two circuit racers on board, SPM will certainly miss Mikhail “The Mad Russian” Aleshin’s exploits on ovals.

Ed Carpenter Racing
After losing long-time sponsor Fuzzy’s Vodka, ECR return to the field with a pair of resplendent gold cars, hoping that their season will shine just as bright. The team hands a full-time return to Ryan Briscoe, and the Australian will be seeking to fight at the sharp end once again. Ed Carpenter himself was toying with the idea of running a full season himself, but ultimately decided that the #20 was better in the hands of Conor Daly for the road and street circuits. Carpenter should be able to flex his muscles on the oval circuits, and Daly should prove more than a match for Briscoe.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing
RLL have persisted with their prudent approach which has helped Graham Rahal climb the Indycar ladder. Switching to Chevrolet for 2019, Rahal should be able to continue on his upward trajectory within the series and challenge for a few wins. RLL add a second car thanks to backing from Argentine national oil company YPF, who have funded a drive for former bit-part F1 driver Esteban Guerrieri. Guerrieri is not expected to match Rahal from the beginning, but with time may be able to close up on his team-mate. Time will tell.

Dale Coyne Racing
With FedEx’s blessing, Dale Coyne offered Josef Newgarden a lot of money to turn his back on F1 and return to Indycar. Newgarden had been impressive prior to the Indy hiatus, but struggled with a dreadful Red Bull as he toiled away in Formula 1. Returning to Dale Coyne gives the Tennessee-born driver the chance to rebuild his reputation, and will be provided with most of the team’s attention. The #19 car, famous for having a rotating cast of drivers, has been funded by burger chain Five Guys, who have come up with a marketing ploy based on their name by asking for five different drivers through the season. JR Hildebrand, RC Enerson and Gabby Chaves will be staking their claim for future full-time drives, whilst Jorge Cevallos and Scott Hargrove may struggle at this level.

KVSH Racing
With rumours abound that Carlin may purchase a majority stake in KVSH, Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser have pressed on with their preparations and have signed two familiar drivers. Sebastien Bourdais returns from F1 to enjoy what may become an Indycar swansong, and will be partnered by Simona “The Iron Maiden” de Silvestro. If the team manage to seamlessly switch from Chevrolet to Honda, then both Bourdais and de Silvestro have the means to collect good results.

Cassidy Racing
Formerly of F1RICS, Cassidy Racing proved to be one of the stronger outfits and took Natalie Ryder to within a sniff of the 2016 title. Ashley Cassidy returns to Indycar with her family team, and will be expected to draw on her previous experience with the Dallara DW12. Partnering her is former F1 driver Raffaele Marciello, who proved to be a very effective substitute for Caterham on a number of occasions. Marciello is a quick but mercurial talent, and will benefit from having Cassidy’s experience to learn from.

2019 Airbnb Indycar Series - Round 1 - Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Florida

motorsport.com wrote:Munoz capitalises on Power misfortune at St. Petersburg

Carlos Munoz has drawn first blood in the 2019 Indycar season by taking victory in St. Petersburg, snatching the lead in the latter stages following Will Power's pitstop for a new front wing.

Power effortlessly converted his pole into an early lead, and was able to cruise ahead of Ryan Hunter-Reay, Munoz and team-mate Simon Pagenaud, although the Frenchman would promptly retire with an engine failure.

Following the pitstop phase in which the majority of the field showed their intent to three-stop, Penske's James Hinchcliffe became the cat amongst the pigeons on an alternate strategy; the Canadian backed up the pack behind Power and allowed the Australian to pull out a sufficient gap over Munoz, which seemed to be a masterstroke by the Penske team.

With a significant gap, Power suffered from a momentary lack of concentration and spun in the middle portion of the race, allowing Munoz to claw back the 20 seconds he'd lost behind Hinchcliffe. The Colombian drew closer in his #10 Keurig Ganassi, but the pace of newcomer Thomas De Bock ensured that Munoz's attentions were focused on defending second place.

In the final stages, JR Hildebrand lost control of his #19 Dale Coyne and careened into the path of Power, who was about to lap the American. Although the 2014 Indycar champion largely avoided Hildebrand, his front wing was clipped in the fracas and had to subsequently pit, dropping to 4th to the despair of the Penske team.

Munoz assumed the lead and crossed the line ahead of De Bock and Josef Newgarden, who took a podium in his first race for Dale Coyne. Will Power remained fourth following his pitstop, finishing ahead of the two-stopping Hinchcliffe.

Re: 2019 Airbnb IndyCar Series - Round 1 - St Pete, FL

Post by Ataxia »

Now that Round 1's done, I have some things for you to do.

1) I suppose it's time to introduce the upgrade system. I'll be updating money shortly, so keep your eyes peeled.

Engines:
Each engine follows the upgrade path given above. You may purchase engine upgrades sequentially. Upgrade 1 is unlocked after round 7, and upgrade 2 is unlocked after round 14. Upgrades 3 & 4 will be unlocked at some point next season, and upgrade 5 will be unlocked in 2021.

Upgrades:
You can buy upgrades for your mechanics and your marketing team.

- Upgrading your mechanics will improve reliability by 5% of the base value each level. Each level from 1 to 5 will cost $400k, and every level following that will cost a bit extra (Level 6 costs $400k + 20%, etc). You can purchase a maximum of four levels per season.

- Upgrading your marketing team improves your chances in RNG events. Each level from 1 to 5 will cost $200k, (every level following that will cost extra, as detailed in the spreadsheet) and will add an extra 5% to your RNG value in cases where two or more teams bid for the same thing. You can purchase a maximum of four levels per season. For example:

Code: Select all

Penske and Ganassi both bid for A. Stooge. Penske have a Level 3 marketing team and receive a 15% bonus, Ganassi have a Level 1 team and receive a 5% bonus.

1-50: Penske
51-100: Ganassi
101-115: Penske
116-120: Ganassi

2) After the next race at Barber, the circuit will be hosting a young drivers' test. You may select two drivers to test, and must meet the following criteria:

- Must be aged between 18 and 25 years old.
- Must have participated in less than five Indycar, ARWS or F1 races.
- Must currently race in a junior category above F4 level.

I won't be RNGing drivers, so it's first-come-first-served for real life drivers.

3) Indy 500 entries are still open for the time being. You can edit your entries to improve your chances of being selected to appear, and those who haven't submitted an extra entry may do so.
