2019 GT Super Series - She's Done!

Post by RealRacingRoots »

Allright, continuing where we left off at the Suzuka in November it's time for the 2019 Rolex GT Super Series to start off. This is season four of the championship and the second under the current branding package. But first, the usual OP Housekeeping to get through.

Background Info

The GT Super Series (named the GT-R World Championship in 2016/17) is a World Championship run by the WMS Group with Terrance Carter as its commissioner. In the championship, the cars that are raced are akin to the real life LMGT1 cars of the mid-2000s with Original Equipment Manufactures either running factory operations themselves or contracting out factory rights to qualified teams, or supplying cars out to customers to run independantly without direct support. The manufactures use the series as a marketing platform for their halo products, a financially driven customer program or as a testbed for future concepts and ideas in a series where their interests are at the forefront. Each individual car will be driven by two drivers during the two hour race, with the starting driver also being designated to do qualifying. Factory cars will also be highlighted by having some of the best race drivers on the planet with Independant entries having restrictions and rules based on who drives them in the races. Races are run in GTR 2 – FIA GT Racing Game and ultises its capabilites for weather and its modernized physics set. The physical cars used in the carset are from that era of LMGT1 racing and are intended not to be taken at face value. (In case that wasn't already apparent)

Basic Rules

Every user is entitled to run two cars full time and a third part time; with a maximum of two cars per team. Meaning they can run two fully independant of each other one-car programs full time.

Part-Time cars are entitled to enter four races each season, spanning a maximum of two continents (Europe, North America, South America, or Asia)

Useres who enter the series full-time will do so via the Car Allotment System at the beginning of the year. It is a six step process created to ensure no stone gets left un-turned and no one gets screwed out of a entry as much as they thought they did.

Based on their status in the series the previous season, users will enter at different points of the system.

Each car has a different amount of examples available, with some having special conditions for added entries. (like part-time only entries)

When they enter, teams get to choose their tire brand of choice they will use for the duration of the year. Tires have different performance capabilities and availability depending on car, with some tire makers having factory entires which gives those cars a small performance boost.

The drivers that teams will enter come with a ranking based on previous racing experience and their age. They are Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, lowest rank to highest. Platinum drivers can only be used in Factory Entries and weight ballast penalties are placed on independant cars that use Gold Rank drivers. Part-time entries can only have one Gold ranked driver in their roster and no Platnium ranked drivers outright.

Independant entires will have to run in a Pre-Qualifying session if the full entry list for a weekend is more than 30, with the slowest cars in the session (how ever many more total entries than there are race slots) not advancing to the rest of the weekend.

Each race weekend has one 30 Minute Pre-Qualifying Session, two 60 Minute Practice Sessions, one 20 Minute Qualifying Session and the 120 Minute long Race unless it is a special event.

Points are awarded for overall finishing position and position in class. For the outright Driver's and Team's Championships points are awarded with 15 going to first overall, then 12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 for the rest of the Top 10. In the Independants and Manufactures Championships 10 points are awarded for first in class, then 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 for the rest of the Top 10 with an additional points on offer for Independant entries if they finish in the top 5 overall, with 5 for first then 4-3-2-1 for the rest of the Top 5.

More detailed rules will be seen in upcoming posts as they become relevant in the pre-season process.

And oh yeh, this is my show. At the end of the day, anything and everything goes through me. Otherwise have fun trying to make this DM do what you want him to do.

Tl;Dr – You enter cars and drivers when you are allowed to, and I am The Game and you don't want to play me. (But enter this series tho seriously)

Rules and Game Mechanics Changes for 2019:

*Each Gold driver that a Independent Entry has will give the car Ballast of 10 Kilos, resulting in 20 Kilos for a Gold/Gold pairing. Instead of 5 for the first, and then 15 for a all-gold pairing.

*Part-Time entries that move to full-time through the Car-Allotment Process that wish to use the same car as they had the previous year will only be reserved for them as long there are examples remaining at Stage 4 of the Car-Allotment Process. There will no longer be any extra cars made by part-timers going full-time, as could've been potentially possible in 2018.

*Talent Penalties related to the Meta have been updated to reflect changes that were made to the Ratings System in 2018. Qualifying Stats should matter more now after inroads were made in 2018 relating to their relevance.

*The class name for the cars used in the GT Super Series will now formally be called GTM (Grand Touring Manufacture) rather than ambiguously using GT1. Cars that used the GT1 or GT2 moniker in their name have been updated accordingly for this year's thread.

*The Ford GT GTM has been added to the Homologation List, with he Maserati MC12 GTM being replaced with the Maserati MC12 GTM Evo. The Full Homolgation List will be as follows:

Aston Martin DBR9
Chevrolet Corvette C5-R
Chevrolet Corvette C6.R
Ferrari 550 Maranello
Ferrari 575 GTC
Ford GT GTM
Lister Storm
Pagani Zonda GR
Maserati MC12 GTM Evo
Saleeen S7-R
Lamborghini Murciealago R-GT

Cars no longer Homologated:

Chrysler Viper GTS-R
Maserati MC12 GTM
Porsche 911 GTM

Next Up: Ford; But with Who?

It appears that the next manufacture that will enter the Factory ranks of the Rolex GT Super Series will be the Ford Motor Corporation. With various incarnations of GT concept cars doing the show circuit over the last 18 months, and a spy-shot of a all-black, mid-engined race car resembling the concept cars being spotted during night testing at Road Gatineau, the upcoming Detroit Auto Show will be the place of both the road and race car's international debut. In the auto show's schedule, Ford has the first press conference scheduled on press day, which is being used for both the GT and the upcoming fourth generation Ford Focus.

While that appears to be all but certain, what remains in doubt currently is the extent of the Factory operation in the GTSS, let alone if is even to be a Factory program. Sources have been tight-lipped about who will be responsible for running the GTs in the series, leaving a raft of speculation as who will get the nod to run them.

Currently seen as the favorites to run the operation is the Jones Racing Group, taking into account their long partnership they have had with the Blue Oval in the AutoReject World Series. It would be their first foray in tin top racing since the Macau Touring Masters at the end of 2017 which was used as a toe-in-the-water experience for the Sammy Jones owned operation evaluating potential future expansion. They have since done so announcing a program for the FIA Endurance Championship but have not ruled out anything beyond

The other big rumor going around is the potential for it to be not one, but two factory programs with Ford also potentially eyeing a entry in the GT Class of the FIA Endurance Challenge alongside the GT Super Series. In the FIA EC, it appears that Chip Ganassi Racing, a partner with Ford in IMSA competition, will get the nod but it remains to be seen whether or not their operation will extend to the GT Super Series or it will be handled by another team.

All will be revealed in Detroit, but it didn't stop JBL Design from making a few mock-ups of who might be potentially running the car in the GT Super Series.

Ravenwest Returns

After a hiatus of more than ten years, the Ravenwest name will return to racing with its team owner Nathan McKane reviving the team to race in the Rolex GT Super Series.

"I have enjoyed my time racing open wheelers, but it's the right time for me to come home. It's the right time for Ravenwest Motorsport to return," was the opening from the ex-Ferrari Formula 1 driver in from of his team's shop in Indianapolis, Indiana. Joining him for the announcement is Aston Martin Racing team principal John Gaw as they unveiled the Ravenwest Aston Martin DBR9 which McKane will drive in the GT Super Series as the second factory Aston in the series, alongside Gulf Racing AMR.

Image

"We are in the GT Super Series to win races and championships, and show what the defining parts of Aston Martin are in Power, Beauty and Soul, "said Gaw, "We have had a strong relationship with (Nathan) McKane and his team in the past the last time he raced in GTs, it was a partnership that we are thrilled to renew." Ravenwest ran Aston Martins back in the mid-2000s when the pairing of McKane and Rick Scott were at the peak of their powers before the Edinburgh-native took a gamble and moved towards becoming a F1 driver, which started in 2010 when he raced with Hispania.

Rick Scott has since retired from racing leaving McKane to bring onboard a new driver to drive alongside him. Signing on with Ravenwest is former AutoReject World Series driver Andrej Kremnicky, who also drove for Aston Martin back in 2014.

"The kid (Kremnicky) is special, he just needs a real opportunity to show his worth. He's been boom or bust in the past but that's what happens when you bust your ass as much as he has trying to get to the top."

Ravenwest will be taking over from Team Falken Tire as the second factory Aston Martin entry, but Team Falken Tire have announced they will be continuing in the series with their DBR9 for 2019 and beyond.

2019 GT Super Series - Car Allotment System Details

Post by RealRacingRoots »

Ok time to go through the Car Allotment System for everyone before we actually get going. It's a 6 Step system for users entering the series full time. It is divided out depending on what class the teams will be entering and how they intend to enter relating to the year before. Here's the rundown of the order:

1 - Factory Teams are Allotted, they will be allotted either by me giving the teams the cars, or RNGd out depending on the Manufacture involved.

2 - Independent Teams from last year that wish to stay with their current car count or move down to one full-time car from two, or users that want to run two separate one car teams that use the same car.

3 - Independent Teams from last year moving from one car to two or using a new car altogether and Users wishing to directly transfer car(s) they control to another user, then each team confirm their plans. Users who were in the series the previous year full time can also completely start fresh with a new team and car here.

4 - Part-Time Teams from the year prior that want to go full time, regardless if it's with the same car they had last year or not.

5 - Users on the Reserve List who didn't enter through Step 4 or on a Step 3 transfer can enter.

6 - Users not on the Reserve list, or users already with one full-time car who want to enter a separate one-car team full time. Everyone else, essentially.

The cars that are available alongside how many examples are initially available and remain are on the Car Allotment Data Sheet here and will be updated as each entry is submitted. Yes, it is first come, first serve but with this system it shouldn't be as much of a issue at it could be elsewhere. When it reaches the Step where you are involved, you will enter using this entry sheet:

You cannot change what brand of tires you use during the year. The criteria for Factory teams, the tire availabilty basic tire characteristics are as follows:

Michelin: All Manufacture Trophy teams that run Michelin Tires will be designated as a Factory Michelin team.
Pirelli: One team will be designated as the Factory team, Preferably a Manufacture Trophy team, and/or running an Italian Car. (RNG result)
Dunlop: One team team will be designated as the factory team, preferably a Manufacture Trophy team. (RNG Result)

Car Allotment System - Stage1 (Factory Teams)

Post by RealRacingRoots »

Link to the Car Allotment Data can be found here when you click on the 2019 season tab, the link also includes how many for each individual car is available.

This is Stage One of the Car Allotment System, which is all about the teams battling for the Manufacture's Trophy. These cars are earned or given, rather than swooped up by the teams entering full time on a first-come, first-served basis. And as a result all the info pertaining each OEM's entry will be in this post. There are seven manufactures with factory teams this year, here is the run-down of their plans. (In Alphabetical Order for the Manufacture)

Aston Martin will continue with their plan of having two separate teams run their factory DBR9s. After the mediocre showing by AMR Team Falken Tire in 2018, they have been stripped of their factory status while maintaining ownership of their DBR9 and the developmental agreement for specialized road going Falken tires for AM road cars. Replacing them in the second factory slot is the returning Ravenwest Motorsport. Gulf Racing AMR showed blistering pace but were marred with early reliability issues in the new car. They will be continuing on as the other factory Aston Martin entrant.

MinardiFan, please confirm your plans for Gulf Racing AMR.

Commonwealth, Ford, Macmillan announce major GTSS partnership

Representatives from the Commonwealth Group, the Ford Motor Company, and the specialist racing outfit Team Macmillan have announced a comprehensive agreement amongst the three concerning the incoming Ford GT GTM program in the 2019 GT Super Series championship.

The complex arrangement is understood to involve substantial technical collaboration between Commonwealth and Ford regarding the construction and development of both the GT GTM and the Ford GT road car programs, with racing operations to be handled by an experienced, senior contingent from Team Macmillan.

Autosport understands that extensive preparations for the project were made ahead of time under the auspices of the now-outgoing CWG Data Collection team, with the corresponding information and experience directly influencing the development cycle of the GT GTM. In turn, Data Collection division executive David Baldwin, having been responsible for the oversight of the aforementioned Data Collection GTSS team, in addition to successful CWG programs in Formula Nippon and Formula E, is expected to assume overall organizational control, with senior figures from both Team Macmillan and Ford Performance to fulfill management roles concomitant with their respective fields of expertise.

Ford and Commonwealth representatives further expressed hopes that the GTSS collaboration would mark the start of a more expansive organizational partnership between the two parties, with advanced negotiations already underway over technical alliances regarding the future development of vehicle management systems, hydrogen fuel cells, composite materials, and electric motor technology.

Press Release wrote:
Alec Palmerston - Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Group:

"Motorsport has been an unquenchable passion of mine, ever since I was a small boy. Raised on riveting tales of old, hallowed titans of racing, such as Sir Jack Brabham, it has invariably been a consuming ambition of mine to witness the restoration of the Commonwealth Group to its rightful place in motor racing; the testing, demanding environment within which the foundations for this world-class organization was ultimately forged.

Along with our extremely successful program in Formula One, and our highly fruitful supply relationships with some of the most prestigious series and respected outfits in world motorsports, our collaboration with the Ford Motor Company and Team Macmillan, each highly revered leaders in their respective sectors, on a project as prestigious as the Ford GT racing program, represents yet another instrumental step towards that goal. This program, with the invaluable inter-organizational diffusion of multi-disciplinary expertise between our three exceptional organizations, further secures the immeasurable benefits enjoyed by Commonwealth from our investments in motorsports for years to come.

It is thus with great pride and personal joy that I announce Commonwealth's participation in the Ford GT GTM program in the GT Super Series."

David Baldwin - Executive Operations Officer of Commonwealth Data Collection and Solutions

"Whilst Formula One represents perhaps the most optimal environment for rapid, iterative development of highly experimental, extreme performance solutions with little margin for compromise, championships such as the FIA Endurance Championship and the GT Super Series yield alternative, dynamic environments in which engineering solutions are subject to a more holistically demanding evaluation, whilst still retaining the highly fluid, variable circumstances characteristic of all motorsport competitions that precipitate such efficient propagation of rapid development solutions.

As such, the GTSS Ford GT program, in conjunction with data received from the McLaren LMP program, will serve to compensate for the inevitable deficiencies in the understanding of the aggregate performance envelope generated by the comparatively limited parameters of the Formula One program, and further enrich the cross-disciplinary, intra-organizational diffusion of relevant expertise.

The cross-pollination of engineering processes and data analysis processes between our specialist teams and Ford's contingents should further maximize the aggregate utility derived from this collaboration, and will invariably serve to ameliorate existing inter-organizational friction such that future avenues for cooperation are comparatively facilitated."

Fergus Macmillan - Principal of Team Macmillan

"I've been working with those Commonwealth boys for a good while now; a tad bit uptight, that lot, but they've got their heads screwed on right. So I was only happy to oblige them when they came along asking for a partner.

We've worked with manufacturers in the past, ran factory teams; Toyota, most recently. But running with Ford, the Ford GT, no less, well, it's fulfilled something of a dream for me when I was still a lad. It's a real privilege to be able to partner with two of the biggest names in world motorsport."

Re: 2019 GT Super Series - Car Allotment Stage 1

Post by RealRacingRoots »

BMS Scuderia Italia is back again with another round of their hiring spree.

Same deal as last year, contracts offered are rolling one-year deals that will always have the option for renewal the next year to drive their Factory Ferrari 550 Maranellos depending on how they perform. Based on the results for the quartet they had last year (JJ Davies, Restov, van Walwijk and Constantini), they reached and surpassed the expectations that were put under by the team.

BMS Scuderia Italia would be more than happy to retain the services of the quartet of drivers, however three of the four have been poached by teams running in the FIA Endurance Championship and clashes with Rounds 1, 2, and 8 of the 2019 GTSS Season exist. With their expectations being based on the Team's and Manufacture's Championships, BMS Scuderia Italia are more than happy for James James Davies, Denis van Walwijk and Evgeny Restov return in a limited capacity with Andrea Constantini being able to return full-time. If you own the DECs for Davies, van Walwijk or Restov, please state if you want them to return.

But for the Rounds in Brazil, Abu Dhabi and Baku, we still need drivers to fill in for them. Here are the details and the entry form for drivers.

Team + Basic Information: BMS Scuderia Italia, Factory Ferrari team running the 550 Maranello
Expectations (In order of priority): Top Three in the Manufactures Championship while finishing ahead of Ford, Top Five in the Teams Championship
Driver Prerequisites: Driver should have success at or near the highest levels of motorsports (GTs, Protos, Open Wheelers, etc) and be below the age of 45. (Gold ranked or better based on the series's driver ratings. Silvers will be considered if they have a good enough CV. If you don't know what your driver's ranking is, just ask) Where the driver is from doesn't weigh heavily in the decisions, but Italians are always welcomed to take up a few seats if they are skilled enough. The drivers don't have to bring in their own sponsorship money.

There is no limit for how many drivers a user can apply with, but do take into account DEC series limits before you enter more than a couple drivers.

2019 GT Super Series - Car Allotment Stage 2

Post by RealRacingRoots »

Link to the Car Allotment Data can be found here when you click on the 2019 season tab, the link also includes how many for each individual car is available.

This is Stage Two of the Car Allotment System, which is all about the teams that aren't changing their programs too much from 2018. This is when you guys can start to enter first come, first served basuis provided you are qualified to do so. If you are running the exact same team and cars or downsizing to one car, this is where you will be entering. Or users who are directly changing the team running the operation, but still using the same cars they had last year can enter here as well, as well as running two separate one-car operations that use the same car you had last year. Here are the Teams and Users that can enter Via Step 2:

(In order of Car Number from 2018)

Team Falken Tire - Autonomous - One Aston Martin DBR9
Chris Short Racing - RDD - Two Ferrari 550 Maranellos
Boutsen Ginion - Normal32 - Two Chevrolet Corvette C5-Rs
Best In The World Motorsport - Klon - Two Lambroghini Murciealago R-GTs
Winton Racing - Pasta Maldonado - Two Lister Storm GTs
Scuderia Belgio - This - One Ferrari 550 Maranello
Globex Scorpio Racing - Autonomous* - One Chevrolet Corvette C5-R (Talk to me when you get the chance Salamander)
RMR Motorsport - Autonomous - One Maserati MC12 GTM Evo
Équipe Fantomette by Euromotor International - FantometteBR - Two Lister Storm GTs
Tom Douglas Racing - Wizzie - Two Saleen S7-Rs
Fulcrum Racing - Peteroli34 - Two Maserati MC12 GTM Evo
Minarae - Aerond - One Ferrari 550 Maranello
Team LKM - Autonomous - One Lamborghini Murciealago R-GT
People's Republic Racing - Dexter249 - Two Ferrari 575 GTCs

As a result of his debacle at the end of 2017, SeedStriker has a one time re-entry in the series during this stage of the Entry process only. It does not have to be with Union Saver Developments.

Everyone listed above has until November 7th, 2017 at 1000 hours pst to post their plans if they are to enter via this portion of the entry process. The entry form and tire availability is available on the Car Allottment System Details post above. You can still apply to be the factory Pirelli or Dunlop teams. If you want to make this go by quicker, say you plan to do something else instead of prolonging this process out longer than it needs to go. Post any livery ideas you got along with sponsors and associate logos, the templates will be posted in the coming days.

If you read the Car Allotment Data, you would see that a fourth Corvette C6.R will be made available for the Round of The United States. Please state in your entry if you would like to move to the C6.R from your current car at that weekend and for the rest of the year. It will be the only time within the series that a team will be able to use two different cars at one time.

Enter away boys, and please nominate drivers to supersub for BMS Scuderia Italia.

If you ran last year (or you're SeedStriker) and you're 100% sure you want to do what you did last year, you got until tomorrow morning before it might not be guaranteed that you'll be getting what you wanted when Stage 3 gets underway soon after. The extension for Stage 2 though the third stage will be in effect regardless.

Car Allotment Stage 3

Post by RealRacingRoots »

Link to the Car Allotment Data can be found here when you click on the 2019 season tab, the link also includes how many for each individual car is available.

Stage 2 will see it's extension to the Conclusion of Stage 3 as it did last year. Doesn't make sense it if didn't work like that. We need at least one more driver to throw their hat into the ring for supersubbing at BMS Scuderia Italia. And for those entering and running either Dunlops or Pirellis, you can still apply to be their factory program.

This is Stage 3 of the Car Allotment System, which is about Users who were in the series full time last year changing up what they run in the series. If you're keeping the same team and car you ran last year but adding an additional car, or moving to a different car this is where you'll be entering. Another thing that can happen in Stage 3 is teams can "sell" the cars they ran last year to a team run by another user and then re-enter themselves in a different car. Alternatively, users that ran full time last year can change which team(s) they enter full time and have them run different cars. Here are the Teams and Users that can enter Via Step 3:

(In order of Car Number from 2018)

Chris Short Racing - RDD - Two Ferrari 550 Maranellos
Boutsen Ginion - Normal32 - Two Chevrolet Corvette C5-Rs
Scuderia Belgio - This - One Ferrari 550 Maranello
Fulcrum Racing - Peteroli34 - Two Maserati MC12 GTM Evo
Minarae - Aerond - One Ferrari 550 Maranello

SeedStriker's re-entry is still active with Stage 2 being extended.

Everyone listed above has until November 17th, 2017 at 1000 hours pst to post their plans if they are to enter via this portion of the entry process. The entry form and tire availability is available on the Car Allotment System Details post above. You can still apply to be the factory Pirelli or Dunlop teams.

If you don't enter now, you better have had a Part-Timer in the game last year or hope that there's still room come Stage 6: The Last Call.
