Re: Alt-1958: Enter Germany!
With the large grid size, Reg parnell Racing asks for permission to enter Pedro Rodriguez. Forgive me if he's under contract to someone. Reg himself intends to enter for Maserati, if Maserati turns up too late with their entry again, Reg will use the O.S.C.A. F156A chassis 17 - Maserati 56A engine 1 combination under his own team.
Reg Parnell Racing - Pedro Rodriguez - Cooper T45 chassis 5 - Climax FPF IV engine 4
In the meantime of course Carel Godin De Beaufort looks for a decent privateer car to enter with Ecurie Maarsbergen.

In which case, we'll select Gendebien for the vacant seat
Tough call, but would Behra be willing to risk his reputation by doing a one-off for Parnell?
He would not.

I'm afraid both Wagner and Ouvaroff are down as using cars that have already been claims by Pasta's entries. Please find other cars to use, or I'll have to invalidate them.

July 19th 1958, German Grand Prix qualifying
With another victory after a thrilling finish in Belgium, Ferrari are now in prime position to take the honours this season, but B.C.M.A.'s close brush with the win and Brabham's second place finish will remind them that it's far from over. Peter Collins remains in the championship lead despite retiring from the Belgian round, joined in second place by his unlikely teammate Onofre Marimón, and followed by rookie John Surtees. As the season reaches its halfway mark, can the championship battle be flipped on its head at the Nürburgring?

44. Duncan Hamilton (B.C.M.A.) - B.C.M.A. RP.1001 chassis 2, B.C.M.A. A/AS Wyvern engine 4
-Connaught-McAlpine have taken the opportunity of a larger grid to bring out their brand new C-Type chassis, with Lewis-Evans taking driving duties once more.
-Dan Gurney's spin in Spa led to his benching for the German Grand Prix, as Rob Walker brings back Harry Schell from Cooper to drive with González. The second Cooper seat is taken by 20-year-old Bruce McLaren, who makes his European F1 début.
-As Reg Parnell is busy driving the Cooper-Maserati, his own Cooper-Climax will be wheeled around by the returning André Pilette.
-Carel Godin de Beaufort's Écurie Maarsbergen is back for another round, the Dutch count this time driving a Vanwall.
-Asso di Fiori also return for the first time this year, with Belgian F2 driver Christian Goethals in a new O.S.C.A..
-Troy Ruttman's injury left Lotus short-handed, and attempts to sign Georges Burggraf were thwarted when Ferrari won a dispute over the Frenchman. Instead, the cars will be driven by Graham Hill and Olivier Gendebien.
-Scuderia Centro Sud originally intended to enter five cars, their usual two for Guelfi and Gallagher, and three usually works O.S.C.A. cars for Bonnier, Ramos and Fangio. Ultimately, O.S.C.A. returned from their extended hiatus with the last three, leaving Mimmo Dei's outfit with just the two cars.
-Hans Herrmann appears at a race for the first time since failing to prequalify in France, once again for Ugolini.
-As Gendebien's home race passes and he moves to Lotus, the fifth Ferrari is taken by the East German ace and supporting star of the Belgian Grand Prix Heinz Melkus, leading Theo Fitzau's Köthen team to sit out the race.
-Jean Behra's string of disappointing results have caused Voeckler to leave him out of the line-up, to be replaced by Australian Grand Prix winner Georges Burggraf. Behra was offered a drive by Reg Parnell, but declined, ultimately putting himself on the sidelines.
-Just like last year, Helm Glöckler returns to the Nürburgring with and O.S.C.A. under the banner of his own Équipe Anglaise. He's joined by fellow privateer Wolfgang Seidel in an old Alfa Romeo, his first appearance in two years.
-Honoré Wagner returns for potentially his last race of the season, trading his rented O.S.C.A. for a Vanwall as O.S.C.A. return to the fold.
-As the Antipodean invasion continues, Brabham and McLaren are joined by two privateers currently on a European Formula 2 tour: Kiwi ace Syd Jensen and eccentric Russian-born Aussie nobleman Count Steve Ouvaroff.
While more than 8 drivers will fail to make the grid, this number is below 10, so no prequalifying session will be held, no doubt to the relief of many.

Stellar performance from Peter Collins who takes a commanding second pole position of the season for Ferrari. He'll be joined on the front row by teammate Maglioli and defending champion Jack Brabham. Behind them, some great performances were seen on behalf of Mike Hawthorn in the Cooper, Roy Salvadori in the Vanwall and André Guelfi in the Centro Sud O.S.C.A., but also from Bruce McLaren and André Pilette to qualify much higher than many would have though. There was little surprise regarding the failures to qualify. The bottom eight were nowhere near fast enough to make the cut, and the only real battle was between privateer Wolfgang Seidel in the aging Alfa Romeo and the highly-rated Lewis-Evans in the new but underfunded Connaught Type C. The German eventually won, qualifying for his home race by just under two seconds.

Re: Alt-1958: Germany in preparation
July 20th 1958, German Grand Prix
Maglioli led at the start, but as the first lap unfolded, the battles through the field intensified. B.C.M.A.'s strategy played into their hands initially as Brabham soon found himself in the lead, with Moss fourth, Surtees fifth and Hamilton tenth. The race had already claimed its first victim, as Fangio's gearbox jammed at Karussell. The top six settled with Brabham leading Maglioli, Collins, Moss, Surtees and Hawthorn, while Guelfi and Ramos scythed their way through the field to reach tenth and fourteenth places respectively by the end of the second lap.
By the third lap though, this status was no longer quo as Moss and Surtees made their way past Collins, with the former also passing Maglioli for second place. De Beaufort was the second man to retire, with a brake failure on the third lap, followed on the next lap by the impressively-fast Wolfgang Seidel's clutch and Duncan Hamilton's gearbox. Nearer the front, Hawthorn had also passed Collins, leaving the championship leader in sixth place while B.C.M.A. lined up in a 1-2-3 formation when Surtees passed Maglioli. Despite all this, most of the talk concerned the extremely surprising André Guelfi, who was now in a scarcely-believable seventh position for Scuderia Centro Sud. One lap later, he was sixth after passing an increasingly angry Peter Collins, then fifth from Maglioli.
On lap 6, the first official leadership change of the race was observed as Moss caught and passed Brabham without much of a fuss. The Australian refused to take it lightly though, and subsequently proceeded to hound down his English teammate. The race was reduced to 29 drivers when Burggraf's engine expired, while Bruce McLaren passed a whopping seven cars on the same lap to move into 13th position. While this happened, Brabham took the lead back from Moss on lap 8, but the Brit wasn't letting it go without a fight either, continuing the battle a while longer.
As Maglioli stopped with an oil leak and Pilette with a puncture, Guelfi caught Hawthorn just as Collins began to finally sort out his pace problems. On lap nine, both Guelfi and Collins passed the Cooper driver and set about catching the leading trio, just as Glöckler pulled out from a spirited performance rewarded only by a distant last place. He'd had enough of pootling around for little reason. Ferrari's day went from bad to worse when Marimón's gearbox failed, but on lap 11, things were suddenly looking up: in a twisted turn of fate, both Brabham and Moss suffered from near-simultaneous suspension failures and pulled over, giving each other incredulous looks as Surtees, Guelfi, Collins, Hawthorn, Ramos, González, Gregory and Simon sped past.
Guelfi couldn't enjoy second place, though, as Collins took advantage of the chaos and high-pressure environment to take second place. While Ramos began to pressure Guelfi's private O.S.C.A. with his own works O.S.C.A., the other remaining works car of Bonnier was retired with steering issues. Gendebien followed with gearbox issues. Meanwhile, at the front, Surtees' lead began to falter as the early charge started to take its toll on the B.C.M.A.. By lap 14, Collins was breathing down the rookie's neck and though Surtees tried his best to hold on to the lead, Collins was too fast and breezed into the top position on the penultimate lap.
Redmond Gallagher retired from second-last on the penultimate lap after a horrid race, while his teammate Guelfi was running in a terrific third place... until the final lap. Just as he was mulling over his celebrations, Guelfi's O.S.C.A. began to splutter and got quieter. By the time he'd reached Flugplatz, the writing was on the wall: he had run out of fuel. As the Frenchman dejectedly walked through the Eifel forest to the pits, Collins took the chequered flag for the third time of the season, ahead of Surtees. The suddenly free third place was inherited by Mike Hawthorn, who scored Cooper-Climax's first podium place ahead of Ramos in the works O.S.C.A., González in the Rob Walker Lotus and Gregory in the Ferrari. Christian Goethals and Jim Russell also retired on the final lap, also out of fuel as is beginning to be popular in this age of strategy.
