2019 Yaname Electronics Super Formula

Post by Normal32 »

After a hard-fought title battle between Lotterer and Yamamoto for the Super Formula Championship, the German took it all on a thrilling finale at Fuji Speedway. Who will now become the new Master of the East, after the collapse of the rival series, and who will master this new era of Super Formula with the new Dallara SF19?

Teams

All teams of the former Super Formula season will return, alongside a new AutoReject Nippon challenger.

VANTELIN TEAM TOM'S
Despite losing their partnership with Petronas at the end of 2015, TOM'S still had some perfomance in them back in 2016, and 2018 saw them fully recover from their Petronas loss, as Andre Lotterer stormed in for a title. The team is expecting to fight for the title with it's extremely good staff.

P.MU/CERUMO INGING
The Cerumo-INGING partnership slept in their laurels during the 2018 season, as their more powerful rival overtook them in the standings, after three consecutive championships. Will they be able to challenge the top dog TOM'S again?

TEAM MUGEN
After Yamamoto narrowly lost the title to Lotterer in 2018, and Fukuzumi got used to the Super Formula enviroment, Mugen will try and overcome their rivals to try and take the title.

ITOCHU ENEX TEAM IMPUL
The de facto Nissan team, Impul have been ocasionally fighting for the title during the history; now they have a star in Sekiguchi. de Oliveira is getting old, and he is rumoured to be retiring from open-wheelers, maybe from racing in general, at the end of 2019. Will Impul have a replacement? How will things play out for Hoshino's outfit?

SUNOCO TEAM LEMANS
Team LeMans has had a bit of a mixed bag as of recently. Alex Palou had an excellent debut season incluiding a lights to flag win, but Kazuya Oshima, the resident LeMans driver, wasn't too thrilling. Can LeMans escape out of the midfield and become the front-runner it once was in the 1990s?

DOCOMO TEAM DANDELION RACING
Dandelion had a solid 2018, with the Nojiri/Izawa line-up being rather consistent and decent for the most part, incluiding a pole from Nojiri's part. Dandelion had a fantastic record in the past few years, incluiding a 4th place from Tom Blomqvist in 2016. Will they be able to revive that past high, or was that just a fluke?

KAMAHA MOTORSPORTS
After debuting in 2018, Mori's crew have been doing fine for the most part. Simpson drove in 2018 after getting contacted during ARWS, where he drove the Kamaha to a 10th in the standings. Mori didn't fare so well though, with only a 3rd place to show his efforts with. It is rumoured he is stepping down from driving. How will things turn up for Kamaha in 2019?

KONDO RACING
The birthchild of singer and actor Masahiko Kondo, Kondo Racing's always been a solid midfield package. They made a deal last year to run Nissan Development Driver Mitsunori Takaboshi, but after severe struggles in getting adapted to the car and the Yokohama tyres, he wasn't able to get any points, with the highlight being a fastest lap. The Kondo staff as a whole is more relunctant on him, but the Nissan higher-ups still have some faith in that his second year will be better. How will these conflicts play out, and how will these affect their perfomance on track?

PIAA NAKAJIMA RACING
Nakajima has never been a strength in the series, but 2018 was somewhat of an improvement over 2017. Will this lower midfield team be able to pull an upset with Daisuke Nakajima?

TOCHIGI LE BEAUSSET MOTORSPORTS
Le Beausset is the underdog of Super Formula. However, it shocked the whole paddock by scoring 2 points during the Sugo round, after both some amazing strategy by the team and amazing driving by Koki Saga. With the rumblings of Saga renewing, and the obligatory 2nd-car ruling being imposed, there are many rumours as to who will drive the new #63 Le Beausset...

REAL RACING
Real Racing is not exactly on the best situation. Dragging down the name of SF runner-up Koudai Tsukakoshi, the team has been terrible in 2018, scoring no points at all during the year. Will they be able to recover from the disaster?

B-MAX RACING TEAM
B-MAX Racing are relatively new and somewhat promising. Being a relatively large F3 team, they have a large junior pool, but they need to improve on their SF manpower before they can get anywhere in the series. How will they fare on this relatively new enviroment, and after the mostly wasted years of 2017 and 2018?

SUPER HANAMURA RACING
The latest addition to the series, Fusanosuke Hanamura's outfit is now on the Super Formula portfolio. This first year will be one of expirement. Will they be able to live up to their SANDWICH perfomances, or will they prove the inferioty of the rival series?

CALENDAR

The calendar hasn't changed much since 2018, however, the second Suzuka will be given the two-rounder instead of Okayama, and will be moved to being the 6th round of the championship.

1. Yaname Electronics Grand Prix of Suzuka - Suzuka Circuit - 21 April - L
2. Pacific Grand Prix - Okayama International Circuit - 19 May
3. Grand Prix of Kanto - Twin Ring Motegi (Road) - 28 July
4. Grand Prix of Kyushu - Autopolis - 11 August
5. Grand Prix of Tohoku - Sportslands SUGO - 1 September
6. Grand Prix of Kansai - Suzuka Circuit - 13 October - double-header - L
7. JAF Grand Prix at Fuji Speedway - Fuji Speedway - 10 November - double-header - L

The 1-race weekends will be held to 250km.
The Grand Prix of Suzuka will be held to 200km.
The Kansai race will be held to one race of 110km and another one of 190km.
The JAF GP will be held to one race of 110km and another one of 210km.

ENGINES

Honda and Toyota have returned to Super Formula. Differences between the two are merely cosmetic as of 2019, however this might change.

DRIVER SIGNING

We will get to this later. However, one thing I need to make clear right off the bat is that Mugen must hire Naoki Yamamoto, TOM'S must hire Kazuki Nakajima, and Nakajima Racing must hire Daisuke Nakajima.

SETUP QUALITY

This is the interesting bit. Every team will have a Setup Quality stat (SQ) that affects their perfomance. +1 SQ equals +100 Grip, and -1 SQ equals -100 Grip. The maximum a team can hit is 15 SQ.

Vantelin Team TOM'S - 12
Team Mugen - 10
P.mu/cerumo INGING - 9
Itochu Enex Team Impul - 7
SUNOCO Team LeMans - 7
Docomo Team Dandelion Racing - 5
Kamaha Motorsports - 5
Kondo Racing - 4
PIAA Nakajima Racing - 4
Real Racing - 3
B-MAX Racing Team - 3
Tochigi Le Beausset Motorsports - 2
Super Hanamura Racing - 5

SHR, as a new team, has been awarded the default 5.

The Setup quality shuffles at the end of every season, and it will go like this:

1st - 12 SQ
2nd - 10 SQ
3rd - 9 SQ
4th-5th - 7 SQ
6th-7th - 5 SQ
8th-9th - 4 SQ
10th-12th - 3 SQ
13th - 2 SQ
Grand Chelems: 1 SQ

TEAM SIGNUPS

Instead of a first-come first-served basis, you will have to select a team you'd like to manage. I will award teams at my own discretion. Note that Tochigi Le Beausset is already taken... not that you would want it.

POINTS SYSTEM

The 1-race weekends will be held to a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 points system. 1 extra point to the pole scorer.

Suzuka will have those points halved, to 5-4-3-2.5-2-1.5-1-0.5, and also an extra point for a pole scorer. The JAF Grand Prix will have the same point system, but add 3 points to the winner.

I would like to put my hat into the ring for P.MU/CERUMO INGING. Should this fall through, my second choice is TEAM MUGEN.

I will take care of the KAMAHA MOTORSPORTS entry, if that is alright. Should that for some reason fail, I will look to acquire the leadership of SUNOCO TEAM LEMANS.

You may now choose an engine supplier. You have the choices between the Toyota RI4B and Honda HR-419E. TOM'S and Mugen, for fairly obvious reasons, are the works Toyota and Honda teams, thus getting automatically assigned to their respective engines. The rest may choose as they wish. For 2019, there are no differences between the engines. Once this is done, we can proceed to driver signing.

Driver Signing

Post by Normal32 »

Due to them missing the deadline, Nakajima Racing has been assigned automatically with Honda HR-419E engines.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Now this is where stuff gets fun. Let's get into driver signing.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

First off, you need to assign a Tier of sponsor. The higher the sponsor, the higher the pay and the more you can afford to spend on the car and thus more DF, but at this expense comes harsher requirements:

Tier 1 = 3 DF, will usually ask for a specific kind of driver
Tier 2 = 1.5 DF, will usually ask for Team Championship targets or drivers of a championship
Tier 3 = no bonuses, will ask for nothing.

They can also offer multiplier (negative or positive) that can modify how much DF you get. Maximum is 2.

Here's the sponsor list:

TOM'S

Tier 1 Sponsor: TDP - Hire Ritomo Miyata
Tier 2 Sponsor: Kowa-VANTELIN - Win the TC
Tier 3 Sponsor: Puma - N/A

Cerumo/INGING

Tier 1 Sponsor: INGING - Hire Akihiro Tsuzuki
Tier 2 Sponsor: Gazoo - Hire Yuji Kunimoto OR Hiroaki Ishiura - If: Toyota engines
Tier 3 Sponsor: Pepsi - N/A

Mugen

Tier 1 Sponsor: Mugen Power - Hire Nirei Fukuzumi
Tier 2 Sponsor: Motul - Finish top 2 in TC
Tier 3 Sponsor: Sparco - N/A

Impul

Tier 1 Sponsor: Impul - Hire Nissan GT driver
Tier 2 Sponsor: Itochu - Finish top 3 in TC
Tier 3 Sponsor: Mobil 1 - N/A

Team LeMans

Tier 1 Sponsor: TATA - Hire Narain Karthikeyan
Tier 2 Sponsor: Sunoco - Finish top 4 in TC
Tier 3 Sponsor: Showa Brake Fluids - N/A

Dandelion

Tier 1 Sponsor: HFDP - Hire HFDP driver
Tier 2 Sponsor: NTT DoCoMo - Finish top 5 in TC
Tier 3 Sponsor: Autista - N/A

Kamaha

Tier 1 Sponsor: Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macao - Hire Chinese OR Portuguese driver
Tier 2 Sponsor: Nintendo - Finish top 6 in TC
Tier 3 Sponsor: Seiko - N/A

Kondo

Tier 1 Sponsor: NDDP - Hire NDDP driver
Tier 2 Sponsor: Sega Sammy - Hire All-Japan F3 champion
Tier 3 Sponsor: Fuji Corporation - N/A

Nakajima

Tier 1 Sponsor: PIAA - Hire Honda GT drivers
Tier 2 Sponsor: Epson - Hire Japanese driver
Tier 3 Sponsor: WPC - N/A

Le Beausset

Tier 1 Sponsor: Denso - Hire Koki Saga
Tier 2 Sponsor: Aisin - Hire Le Beausset F4 driver - If: Toyota engines
Tier 3 Sponsor: NPR - N/A

Real Racing

Tier 1 Sponsor: Tanabe - Hire Koudai Tsukakoshi
Tier 2 Sponsor: Advantec - Hire Sena Sakaguchi - If: Honda engines
Tier 3 Sponsor: Samurai Jeans - N/A

B-MAX Racing Team

Tier 1 Sponsor: Byoubugaura Kogyo (x -0.5) - Hire B-MAX F3 driver (minus NDDP)
Tier 2 Sponsor: Nippon Kompo Shizai - Hire Asian F4 driver
Tier 3 Sponsor: Limit - N/A

S.H.I.T

Tier 1 Sponsor: Toda - Hire Hiroki Otsu
Tier 2 Sponsor: Anritsu - Hire SANDWICH driver
Tier 3 Sponsor: Sudo Honke - N/A

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Then comes the driver list. These list the preference of the drivers, these are I hope pretty self explanatory. However, then comes the Junior Allegiance. These comes in 3 flavours:
TDP = Toyota
HFDP = Honda
NDDP = Nissan
These are outside forces. If you bench a driver of them and replace them for one of your own? They will not like that one bit, and they can screw you over very easily pulling a few strings. Junior Allegiance drivers will only drive for either Toyota or Honda powered teams (TDP and HFDP respectively) and Impul or Kondo (NDDP). Junior Allegiance drivers will have a small +5 BHP bonus.
Teams must run at least one RL driver.
Here's the driver list. You can hire RL drivers outside the racing sphere in Japan, of course, just don't expect very high odds if they don't have a good reason to do so.
