If you had paid close attention to the entry list for the Dutch Grand Prix, you might have noticed the entry of two privateers, Belgians Max and Padè Vitesse, fielding a pair of second-hand Marches. If you had been there for Friday morning's pre-qualifying, you might have noticed that they were nowhere to be seen. However, few seemed to notice their absence, FISA included, as like the rest of the paddock, they had no apparent reaction. No immediate reason was given by the Vitesse brothers for their absence either.
The million-dollar answer would be provided in dramatic fashion on the Friday following the Dutch Grand Prix, when the Vitesse brothers rocked up to Zandvoort all ready to compete - a week late! It turns out that despite residing in the Netherlands, their command of the Dutch language was limited at best and they had misread the date of the Grand Prix as being the week after its actual date. After realising their error, the duo decided to hold a test session, wherein they claim to have both set times faster than Gilles Villeneuve's pole time of 1:19.550. "We will live up to our name next time out", said Max Vitesse, hinting towards future entries by the duo, though no further detail was given.

The Ulsterman, who suffered a badly broken ankle in his race-ending collision with Ligier's Michel Leclere, is recovering at home and expects to be back before the end of the season.
"I can't thank them enough really" said Watson. "The marshalls, the medical staff, everyone really was just fantastic. Thanks to them I'm on the mend and should be back before the end of the year".
