2020 Anglo-Irish F4: It's over

Post by Bobby Doorknobs »

Season 3!

The Simulator

Grand Prix 2. Same as what Klon uses for Alt-F1, Aerond for ARWS, Normal for F3... you know this intro well.

The Cars

I'm not a fan of one-make formulae (well, it depends but let's not talk about me) but unfortunately this ain't the seventies anymore and competitive car design is just too damned expensive. This sad reality is reflected here, so everybody's stuck with the same inexpensive Mygale-Ford that's worked well these past couple of years.

The Drivers

I'll break it down like this:

- Drivers can be real-life or fictional
- Your chances aren't great for drivers that have driven and shown consistently good pace in more senior classes. The higher up the ladder, the lower your chances of signing the driver
- Drivers must be at least 15 years old before the start of the season. I will ask all participants to show a proof of age from either the canon driver list spreadsheet, wiki, Wikipedia, Driverdb etc.
- Most drivers are expected to be of British or Irish origin. I don't expect a grid filled with them, this is just a guideline
- Drivers can improve over the course of the season. I intend to introduce a slightly different system from last year, but that's something I need to think about further

The Teams

A 26-car maximum, with 1-2 cars per entrant. Teams are mostly expected to be UK or Irish-based (again, guideline, but you know it makes sense). If the 26-car limit is not met, I will ask for certain teams to expand to three or perhaps four cars, depending on how short we get.

The Race Weekend

I'm the sort of person that prefers a single, longer race as opposed to breaking the weekend up into chunks, but there's nothing seriously wrong with the double-header format, is there? So yeah, two races per weekend with a qualifying session for each.

The Points System

This:

1 - 15 pts
2 - 12 pts
3 - 10 pts
4 - 8 pts
5 - 6 pts
6 - 5 pts
7 - 4 pts
8 - 3 pts
9 - 2 pts
10 - 1 pt
Pole Position - 2 pts

The Penalty System

Drivers who commit any breach of regulations and/or dangerous on-track behaviour will be given penalty points. Drivers who accumulate 20 penalty points will serve a one weekend ban, which applies across all FIA Formula 4 series worldwide. Drivers who accumulate 40 will serve a one calendar year ban from all F4 series. Penalty points expire 12 months from the date of issue, and roll over into the next season if applicable.

The full list of F4 drivers who currently have penalty points on their licence can be found in the spreadsheet linked below:

http://formularejects.com/f4penalties

The Race Calendar

1. Rochester Trophy (Brands Hatch Indy Circuit) - 4-5 April
2. Billy Monger Trophy (Thruxton) - 18-19 April
3. International Trophy F4 (Silverstone National Circuit) - 2-3 May
4. Sunflower Trophy (Bishopscourt International Circuit) - 16-17 May
5. International Gold Cup (Oulton Park Island Circuit) - 30-31 May
6. British F4 Grand Prix (Donington Park National Circuit) - 12-13 June
-. In-season test (Donington Park) - 15-16 June
7. Martin Donnelly Trophy (Kirkistown) - 27-28 June
8. Connacht Trophy (Athlone) - 11-12 July
9. Ulster Trophy (Lake Torrent) - 1-2 August
10. Norfolk Trophy (Snetterton 200 Circuit) - 15-16 August
11. Birmingham Superprix F4 (Birmingham) - 29-30 August
12. Leinster Trophy (Mondello Park International Circuit) - 19-20 September
13. Formula 4 Final (Brands Hatch GP Circuit) - 3-4 October

The Entry List

See wiki page.

Frederick West, a Scottish entrepeneur, has decided to start up his own racing team, West Racing Formula, buying out the remaining assets of the Raikkonen-Robertson Racing, while moving the base to Glasgow, Scotland.

"I am very pleased to finally start this." said West, "It's been my passion project for quite a while to do this, and I am very happy to get it off ground."

Despite West's limited funding, he was able to do just enough, in his own words, to get the funding he needed for the team.

"We will keep the original line-up of Clara Descoteaux and Rob Ritchie." he continued. "They have proven themselves very capable."

"I think Scotland's first F4 team is gonna be more than capable, despite it's handicaps." he concluded.

Rejectsport wrote:Christopherson Racing winds down Formula 4 team, joins Arden effort

Former F1 race winner Jack Christopherson has wound down his Formula 4 effort, electing to buy a stake in Arden's F4 operation which involves a minor rebrand for the long standing junior team.

Christopherson Racing was a title contender in the 2018 season with the eponymous team owner's protege Imani Burrell, but struggled to replicate this success last season.

Now, with more funds needed to support Burrell's career in higher rungs of the single seater ladder, Christopherson has opted to shut down his standalone F4 effort, and create a partnership with longstanding junior outfit Arden to reduce costs.

"It was a common sense decision to make," said Christopherson. "The number one priority for this programme is to support the drivers. From a cost perspective, it didn't make sense to continue running our own F4 team alone, but rather forge partnerships with established teams that have greater economies of scale."

"Arden is one of the best in the business, so I have complete confidence in their ability to deliver."

As part of the tie-up, the team will be rebranded as JC Arden in Formula 4, with one of the two seats expected to be set aside for Christopherson's emerging talent programme.

Yeah, so, if it's cool, I'd like to take over Arden and merge them into Christopherson, creating JC Arden.

Carlin is currently willing to offer Odhran Mac Aodha a contract extention for 2020 as well as Harry Platten.

If Panthera is returning, up and coming Cameroonian Samson Enoch is looking to stay with the team, or else he is open to offers to other teams in case the first one fails.

Yes, this is probably a good time to remind people to seriously think about how many cars they want to run this year (which, knowing everybody here, is about five per team!). I like an empty waiting list by the start of the season.

That said, if every single person on the waiting list comes back in the next week saying they want to run a team, I may end up having to take a leaf from the Italian F4 book...
