2020 Asian F4- Preseason Testing Up!

Post by This Could Be You »

Asian F4's back for a second season, and with a shiny new logo:
Image
FIA Asian F4 Championship
This series is unsurprisingly rather similar to the other GP2-based F4 series; The weekends will be run as double-headers, with two quali sessions (with a 28-car field, two won't qualify per race) and races, while the points system, injury rulings and penalty points while be run identically to Simtek's Anglo-Irish series in 2020, and this series last year.

Calendar
1. Yaname Electronics F4 Round of Suzuka 18th/19th April
2. JAF F4 Round of Fuji Speedway 16th/17th May
3. Pertamina F4 Round of Sentul 13th/14th June
4. Petronas F4 Round of Sepang 4th/5th July
5. F4 Round of Twin Ring Motegi (Road) 25th/26th July
6. Autobacs F4 Round of Autopolis 8th/9th August
7. Panasonic F4 Round of SUGO 30th/31st August
8. Sprite F4 Round of Pearl River 26th/27th September
9. F4 Round of Marina Bay 3rd/4th October
10. Casio F4 Round of Okayama 17th/18th October
Cars:
All 14 teams will be running Dome F110 F4 chassis with 1.6L TOM's Toyota engines, with no setup variation, as in 2019. Liveries can be either supplied by the teams or I can make them myself, based on a colour scheme and sponsors provided (although please keep them relatively simple, this is GP2 we're talking about here!)

Drivers:
  • The driver requirements for Asian F4 have been tweaked for 2020, as a result of both complaints last year and FIA rulings- drivers must be aged 15-21 and have no experience of higher categories than F4 (barring special cases of drivers moving series too early which are handled at the discretion of me, the organiser). Asian or Australasian drivers are heavily preferred for this series, unless you can convincingly argue why your driver is competing in Asia. Real-life drivers are also allowed provided they meet the prior requirements, with their signing decided by RNG if there are multiple bids
  • There will be two driver tests in 2020- a pre-season test for drivers entering for a second year, and a mid-season test which all drivers can attend. Both are optional, but these tests can be used by teams to improve the performance of their drivers in one of three areas- Quali Pace, Race Pace or Consistency- by up to 15%, with the extent of this improvement decided by RNG

Teams:
There will be 14 teams in the series, each fielding two cars. These teams must be based in Asia or failing that, Oceania (as there is no "Tasman F4" yet), although entries based in the former continent will be preferred in the case of over-subscription.

Race numbers are decided by the teams, and can be from 2-99, with the exception of K-Apex, who can also choose #1 due to having won the championship with Kwon Sung-Tae in 2019. In the case of two teams choosing the same number, whoever posted first gets to have it, unless an agreement is made between the two users to the contrary.

Eastern Racing Alliance will not return for 2020, after a lack of success in 2019 eliminated our budget.

I thought the series was excellently run, but I thought seen as I have a large enough canon presence I may as well let someone else have a go. :)

I can't be sure if any of the rounds clash with ELMS, as I haven't decided on the rounds, but I reckon at least one will to be honest

Rather than form my own team, I'd like to ask Regenmeister94 if he'd be willing to go 50/50 on his team, with a specific purpose.

I would propose the name is shifted to K-Apex Unity Formula, with North Korean starlet Joo-Woon Song placed in one of the seats. The team would run under the Korean Unification Flag, hopefully with a South Korean driver in the other seat.

If Regenmeister94 passes on this proposal, then Song will consider offers from other teams.

I thought I'd signed Song for Asian F3? Otherwise that plan would be viable is Regemeister94 agrees

Houkago Race Time is an upcoming driver academy which currently runs in the ST-5 and ST-4 categories of Super Taikyu with a Honda Fit and S2000 respectively. They aim to use F4 and hopefully F3 as a platform for which to eventually launch drivers into the penultimate step of Asian GT racing, the PES Group 2 class. The name is a recurring theme and in-joke where many of the team personnel and drivers are from various universities in Osaka and Nagoya.

Drivers for this season are ST-5 'graduate' Yui Hashimoto (born November 27, 2003) and national karting regular Mitsuru Asahina (born August 8th, 2004).

Re: 2020 Asian F4- Prepare Driver Lineups/Liveries

Post by This Could Be You »

Erm, I've just realised I kind of forgot my own deadline ( ) so seeing as it's already past, it's time to finalise the team lineup:

As their respective users have not responded in time, Nakamura Motors, Team Rising Sun and most sensationally last year's champions K-Apex will not return for 2020, along with Dandelion Racing, Eastern Racing Alliance and Narita Engineering whose users declined to continue. This means that the Khmer Racing Organisation, TATA Racing Academy and Houkago Race Time, as well as as-yet-unnamed teams by takagi_for_the_win, Gertrand Bachot and TomDilain will make their Asian F4 debuts.

Now we can move on to driver signings and liveries- I have provided a form below to make this process as simple as possible:

Code: Select all

Team Name:
User:
Livery/Sponsors: (provide a link if self-made)
Numbers (2-99):
Driver 1:
Driver 1 DOB:
Driver 1 DEC (if fictional):
Driver 2:
Driver 2 DOB:
Driver 2 DEC (if fictional):

The template for the F4 car (and its carshape, if you want to test it in GP2) is here, although of course if you can't or don't want to design your own livery, you can simply give a description of your colour scheme and sponsors (if any...) in the form.

I'm not sure why you'd do that, but sure- however, you will be third on the waiting list, seeing as you are essentially quitting the series and reapplying. This means aggi now has a team for 2020

In other news, here's the TATA Racing Academy livery:

Magnum Petronas Team Malaysia (is 3 sponsors OK?) is a new Malaysian motor racing squad designed to promote the latest and greatest Malaysian talent in open-wheel racing, first in F4 and in a couple of years F3, and have sought some European help from ex-F1 driver Silvio Bachot (who offered his input at a meeting during his visit to the Okayama Circuit during the 2019 F1 Japanese Grand Prix) and will be using the team as a launching pad for his own racing teams and we will be using these drivers:

Team Name: Magnum Petronas Team Malaysia
User: GertrandBachot
Livery/Sponsors: I will put the livery up when I finish it and the sponsors are AirAsia, Magnum and Petronas

Here's the Khmer livery (To make it look less like the Red Dragon but with a different political symbol, I've been fairly inventive with the Angkor Wat placement, inspired by the 2006-08 Toro Rosso livery):
