2020 South American Formula 4

Everyone's favourite South American entry-level series is back for its sophomore season, with some light rule tweaks.

Calendar

1. Race of Campo Grande - Autódromo Internacional Orlando Moura (14-15 March)
2. Race of La Plata - Autódromo Roberto José Mouras (21-22 March)
3. Race of El Pinar - Autodromo Victor Borrat Fabini (18-19 April)
4. Race of Curitiba - Autodromo Internacional de Curitiba (9-10 May)
5. Race of Cascavel - Autódromo Internacional de Cascavel (23-24 May)
6. Race of Sao Paulo - Autódromo José Carlos Pace (6-7 June)
7. Race of Maldonado - Punta del Este Street Circuit (27-28 June)
8. Race of Santiago - Autoromo de Las Vizcachas (25-26 July)
9. Race of Bahia Blanca - Bahia Blanca Airbase (8-9 August)
10. Race of Buenos Aires - Autódromo Juan y Oscar Gálvez (11-12 September)
10b. The Final at Buenos Aires - Autódromo Juan y Oscar Gálvez (13 September, double length)

Ruleset:

In BOLD the changes from last year's ruleset.

Cars:
South American F4 is a one-make series, based upon This Could Be You's Dome chassis and a 1,6L Fiat-Abarth engine. For the 2020 season, Fiat has revealed a new version of the engine, which delivers 10 BHP more than the previous one at the expense of reliability.
The teams may choose whether they're running with a conservative, a moderate or an aggressive setup. If no other choice is communicated, a moderate setup (no grip/CFP changes) will be the default choice.
Running an aggressive setup means a small grip boost, but higher CFP. A conservative setup will reduce your grip but make your car more reliable. The setup may not be changed more than twice over the course of the season.
No further upgrades to the cars are allowed.

Drivers:
13 two-car teams are allowed to enter the series. Users missing out may join the waiting list. Only teams based in South or Central America are allowed. Teams may choose two consecutive numbers from 2 to 99, with the exception of Equipo Berta, which can also choose #1 due to winning the 2019 championship with Raquel Rodriguez.

Drivers should also preferrably be South or Central American, but don't necessarily have to. Minimum age is, as in every other F4 series since the beginning of the 2019 season, 15 years at the time of the first race of the season. Entering drivers above the age of 21 is discouraged and will only be allowed at the discretion of the series runner.
Both real-life and fictional drivers are allowed - rookie performances (as well as performances for RL drivers without sufficient sources on their background - karting doesn't count as a sufficient source) will be RNG'ed, other performances will be evaluated on the ground of previous results.

Races:
The races will follow the same double-header format used in Anglo-Irish F4, Asian F4 and North American F4, consisting of two approximately 40 km long races, each with separate qualifying. An exception will be the last round: after two regular races on Friday and Saturday, a double-length race with double points will be a last title decider.
The points system is the same 15-12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 system used in other F4 regional series. Additionally, two points are awarded for pole positions. From this year onwards, no points will be awarded for fastest laps. The penalty system is the same used in the other regional series.

Driver Upgrades:
For both real and fictional drivers, driver upgrades are managed by the driver's team owner.
There are 6 upgrade tokens for each driver, with the exception of rookies, whom will be assigned 9 upgrade tokens. Between 0 and 3 of them may be spent between the first round of the season and the first test, between the first and the second test as well as between the second test and the last round of the season.
There are 3 upgrade classes, costing 3, 2 and 1 token respectively. The upgrade list will be published here shortly. 3-token ones can give a bigger advantage - but be aware: they have a greater chance to backfire... No (single) upgrade may be used more than once.
Apart from that, two mid-season tests provide for upgrade opportunities. Mid-season tests will last two days; for each day, team owners may choose whether to improve the performance of each of their drivers in qualifying pace, race pace or consistency.

Roll Call:

Existing teams must confirm their commitment to SAF4 until 23:59 UTC, February 18th.

Mazzacane Motorsport won't return. Nothing to do with how you run the series, I've just noticed that I haven't been keeping up well with my canon commitments recently, so I'm going to reduce my involvement in lower level series and leave the place for someone else.

Autosport wrote:Hernandez and Berta to join forces for 2020

In a surprise announcement, reigning champions Equipo Berta have announced they will join forces with Escuderia Hernandez for a joint SAF4 campaign in 2020. Taking the name Equipo Hernandez-Berta, the superteam will see two of Argentina's most successful outfits work together for the first time. It is also reported that Equipo Berta will not be re-signing Gabriela Alessandra Castañeda, after disappointing results last year.

Eurofarma Juniores will return, but with a slightly amended team name, MV Juniores. Can you guess what the letters stand for? :vergne:

As it appears that three car teams have been outlawed, Ana Sofia Santana is looking for a ride. She finished 13th in the standings last season, with one pole and one FL. Xavier Santillàn is also looking to use his bags of Tropican pesos to secure a drive.

Rafael Muralha would like to remain in the series however.

Ascensión Asunción continues same driver line-up of Godoy & Jiménez.

I'll also put this one here:
Edson Iturra (CHI, b. 21/6/2003) is looking for a drive. He's basically willing to take any open seat but can't provide much if any financial backing. He participated in last year's tests and this is what was written about his performance:

novitopoli wrote:Iturra (R): He's not even Formula 4 material, showing no signs of talent and not making any progress during his test. Forget it.
If anything, he'd love to take part in the Chilean race (if there is one in Las Vizcachas this season) as a one-off driver if full-time seat doesn't materialize.

After a long period of negotiation, the joint operation by the Hernandez family and Oreste Berta have finally announced their third driver for the South American Formula 4 season. This driver will be Imelda Hermann, a Paraguayan driver who has been all over the news in the Argentine karting scene. Her results have been very impressive, and her backing by various Paraguayan and Argentine private enterprises has certainly made her an appealing option.

We'll be fine. It's Canon, non Kodak.

Oooh, funky. Well, I'm pleased to announce the formation of Brazil's newest team, Corriea Motorsports. Open to offers for drivers, so sell me your Senna's and your Emmo's :P

Silver Line Racing will return for another year with the #12 and #30 cars, and will consider any and all offers for drivers

Time's up, John Rafael didn't answer to the roll call, thus, there's a team sport up for grabs.

But, since I don't like carrying waiting lists over (especially not one-person waiting lists): Bandon23, TomDilain what about sharing a team entry/entering two one-car teams?

As for everyone else: the deadline for driver plans/liveries (for new teams) is 23:59 UTC, March 12th
