Mercedes-Benz would prefer that Schumacher does not race for Volker Schmidt due to the fact that they are also running BMWs in the series.

Karl Wendlinger has opted to reduce his schedule due to clashes with the F3000 calendar, missing the rounds at Pau, Charade and Birmingham in order to be as fit as possible.

Manthey will instead bid for Gokor Peynirici (peteroli34) for these rounds - with the Turkish driver receiving 10k per round.

Thats the first round of RGN's for you.
How the grid looks like: Current Entries

So, quite clearly, we need a second round to fill the remaining seats! So, grab the same form and post your bids for the vacant seats. You have 1 week to do it.

I would be interested in running Welsh Racing again, but the team is currently in the red right now. I plan to fold the team if no further funds can be found, or perhaps I can have the team take a sabbatical and return in 1991?

You could sell the Alfa or wait until 91.

Autosport wrote:Nissan and BMW take reigns in new WTCM season

The first pre-qualifying session of the year was here for WTCM as everyone looked on for what is expected to be the closest championship in ages in touring car history. And the races showed that: the A Class race showed a heavilly disputed fight between the Ford's and the Nissan's - the Ford the fastest car over 1 lap, but the Nissan faster over a race distance. And in the end, Nissan conquered the Ford's over the race, as Naoki Nagasaka took victory in the first pre-qualifying race of the day ahead of his team-mate Masahiro Hasemi, who returns to racing after his absence due to the injury he sustained last year in Watkins Glen. Manuel Reuter was the leading Zakspeed in 3rd place, ahead of pole sitter Frank Biela. Takao Wada rounded up the top 5, with Kurt Thiim ahead of Klaus Ludwig in 6th and 7th respectivelly, with Hoshino and Asch following. Winkelhock rounded up the top 10, the two Philipps struggling for pace overall over the track - a brand new car for them hampering their performance.

In B Class although, it was where the major shake up happened compared to last year. The new improved Audi V8 was major in terms of pace, and it completelly dominated the class. The three factory Audi's completed the podium sweep, with Geisler beating Heger and Harwick to victory, with Stuck in 4th place in the privateer V8. John Cleland followed suit in 5th in the leading Toyota, with Leslie and Hoy 6th and 7th. Jochen Mass was 8th in the leading Volvo, with Akihiko Nakaya with a major performance to finish 9th in the Mitsubishi, with John Bowe rounding up the top 10.

In the final pre-qualifying session, Christian Danner took victory in his BMW E30 M3 Evo, ahead of Armin Hahne and Marc Hessel - the Mercedes defeated the BMW in a drag race to the line. Fabien Giroix finished in 4th place, with Tim Harvey in 5th. Mauro Baldi was 6th, folowed by Ostreich in 7th. The leading privateer E30 M3 was Nettan Lindgren in 8th place, with defending champion Roland Ratzenberger only in 9th place - a though start for the austrian. Johnny Cecotto, the defending C Class championsh, finished the race in 10th place. D Class saw Bernd Schneider take victory for Opel in their debut in the series, ahead of the factory VW's of van Ommen and Sigala. van Menar was 4th in class to guarantee qualifying for the main races.

Saturday Report:
Endurance Race:

Autosport wrote:Ludwig triumphs against Audi's around Fuji

The first race of the new WTCM season was marked by an intense fight between three different manufacturers: Nissan, Ford and the surprising Audi, who's new V8 had the pace to match the Nissan's and Ford over a lap. And they almost won the race in a way. But more on that later.

Early on, the race pace was set by pole sitter Klaus Ludwig, who led until about lap 20, when Manuel Reuter took the lead. By then, the Nissan of Roland Asch and Naoki Nagasaka were close by, but didn't look on matching and overtaking the Ford's on pure pace. It was clear the Ford's were running a 2 stop strategy when Reuter pitted on lap 27 and Ludwig followed on lap 30, while the Nissan's were running split strategies - Asch stayed out until he retired from the race (from the lead), while his team-mates Hasemi and Nagasaka pitted on lap 33 and 32 respectivelly. Asch's retirement promoted Hoshino to the lead until he himself pitted, which let the 2 stoppers Ford's back onto the lead, but still with a pitstop to make.

After the two Ford's pitted, Derek Warwick Audi - running a 1 stop strategy - was promoted into the defacto race lead, being chased by Hoshino's R32 and two Ford's on much fresher tyres. Hoshino started to bring the gap down, and eventually caught Warwick with 17 laps to go. Then became Warwick's defensive drive - he used the Audi's traits to keep himself in the lead until Hoshino's started to go and the japanese driver couldn't force an overtake without crashing. Ludwig, meanwhile, was 17 seconds back with 17 to go and was bringing the gap down, together with Reuter - until Manuel retired - and eventually caught the duo with 6 to go. Ludwig overtook Hoshino and then preceded to pass Warwick with 4 to go - never letting go of the lead. Ludwig crossed the finish line after the 2 hours and 11 minute mark to win the race, ahead of Derek Warwick, who won B Class - who scored Audi's best result in WTCM - by 7 seconds. Andrea Geisler overtook the struggling Hoshino on dead tyres for P3 with 3 to go, and completed Audi's first ever double podium in WTCM. Kazuyoshi Hoshino crossed the line in 4th place to be the leading independents driver, followed by Roberto Ravaglia in 5th place in the leading Phillips, Kurt Thiim in 6th place in a solid debut in the works Ford, Naoki Nagasaka in 7th place as the leading factory Nissan, Altfrid Heger in 8th place, Masahiro Hasemi in 9th and David Leslie in 10th to score pole position for the sprint race.

In C Class, the race was BMW vs Mercedes for its entirety, with Mauro Baldi and Markus Ostreich eventually fighting for the class victory by the end of the race, with the BMW driver coming out on top, scoring the final overall point. Baldi was 2nd in class, followed by Tim Harvey. Bernd Schneider scored the win for Opel in D Class ahead of the factory VW's of Massimo Sigala and Jorg van Ommen.

Sprint Race Report:

Autosport wrote:Nagasaka triumphs in Nissan double

The sprint race was a happy day for japanese fans, as after yesterday Nissan couldn't put a driver or car in the overall podium, Naoki Nagasaka and Masahiro Hasemi made sure the fans were happy today, as both drivers embranced on a race long fight for victory, with Nagasaka eventually winning the race by 7 seconds ahead of his team-mate, which can be pretty happy with a podium on his return to the series. Kazuyoshi Hoshino completed a pretty fine weekend for him as he brought home his R32 in 3rd place. Klaus Ludwig came home in 4th place, with Manuel Reuter recovering from 33rd to finish 5th - another trademark recovery by the german on sunday.
Roberto Ravaglia was 6th overall, with Geisler taking B Class reigns with 7th overall ahead of Warwick in 8th, with Roland Asch and Frank Biela rounding up the top 10 - both recovering from retirements in the endurance race as well.

Class C saw Markus Ostreich take a double victory this weekend for BMW, as he beat Tim Harvey and Marc Hessel to class victory by 6 seconds. Class D saw Bernd Schneider take victory ahead of Jorg van Ommen and Thomas von Lowis of Menar.
