Quicksim: Alternate F1 - The Revolutionary Era - 1991 Season

Post by Gertrand Bachot »

New season - new format. In order to speed up the process of running 1990s F1, and to make sure everything has better optimisation for 1998 onwards, The Revolutionary Era will now be quicksimmed, like the early seasons of The Manufacturer Era to begin with. Apologies to anyone disappointed by this, but this method is quicker and honestly more preferable at this stage.

Anyways, down to business:

The Cars

There will be little deviation from the cars that were run in real F1 in this time period, mostly slight performance adjustments based on the previous performance of a team the season before, and to fit the narrative of the period.

The Drivers

Before the start of each season, you are free to offer contracts for two driver slots.

Your choice will be limited in that you must fulfill two out of three objectives when signing drivers. Those objectives will be given and explained to you in private.

If multiple teams are bidding for a certain driver, RNG shall decide their fate, as usual.

The Teams

17 teams for 1991, 2 cars per team. These 17 teams have been determined by the needs of the canon and previous developments:

Honda Marlboro McLaren (This Could Be You)
Braun Tyrrell Racing (TBA)
Canon Williams Renault Team (Klon)
Scuderia Ferrari (Biscione)
Camel Benetton Arrows (kevinbotz)
Team Lotus (East Londoner)
Leyton House Racing (Wizzie)
Fondmetal (Petoli)
Larrousse F1 (Salamander)
BMS Scuderia Italia (Miguel98)
Minardi Team SpA (Simtek)
Ligier Loto Yamaha (I'll take care of them)
7Up Jordan (Dom)
Rial Racing (SeedStriker)
Automobiles Gonfaronnaises Sportives (pinkd56)
Footwork Team Oreca (TBA)
Moneytron Brabham Racing (I'll take care of them)

The Race Weekend

305 km except Monaco, you all know how a Formula One race works. Furthermore, there will be a one-hour pre-qualifying session on Friday to determine which teams progress to the main qualifying session, and two one-hour sessions on Saturday to determine who starts the race and the grid. Pre-qualifying is determined by aggregate timing, with the top 2 teams progressing to main qualifying. The Top 12 teams in the 1990 WCC will skip this session. The teams that run in pre-qualifying will be determined every 4 races. 28 cars will feature in qualifying proper, and 26 will start the race.

The Points System

10-6-4-3-2-1 for the time being.

The Race Calendar

On the wiki.

If this is all automated, what do I do?

You pick the drivers, hope for the best and if you wish, you may change the lineup by replacing a driver with a driver picked from one of my suggestions if you can provide a good justification.

At the minute, I need existing team owners to confirm their teams, and for Tyrrell and Minardi to have managers. Users not currently in charge of a team may bid for them. You have one week (until the 30th June 2019) to do this.

I am going to withdraw from the series. The quick-sim format simply doesn't appeal to me, especially considering the lack of influence I'd have on performance. Just picking drivers is not enough for me.

Nonetheless, thank you for your efforts to get our canon going again. I appreciate it a lot.

Alright, due to a lack of further responses, I will hand Tyrrell over to Bandon23, and Oreca over to Aislabie.

The driver targets for your teams will be sent to you later. After that, your only job is to post your driver choices as quickly as possible, preferably with multiple options, if required. Fictional drivers need the agreement of their DEC owners, RL drivers will be decided by RNG.

Please note that a driver can fulfill multiple targets at once if he matches all of them.

I also require each team owner to choose between Goodyear and Pirelli tyres. Pirellis have better qualifying performance, and Goodyears have better race performance.

These drivers are currently under contract from the 1990 season:
McLaren: Gerhard Berger, Brendon Cassidy
Williams: Alain Prost, Jérémy-Étienne Voeckler
Arrows: Chris Dagnall
Leyton House: Thierry Boutsen, Satoru Nakajima
Larrousse: Isabella Noriko
Scuderia Italia: Alex Caffi

All team owners should have received their target lists by now.

Please note:
You MUST achieve two out of three/one out of two targets
A driver can fulfill multiple targets at once
There is no reward for achieving all three, should that be possible
Test drivers are irrelevant to the targets. You may name them, but they won't be included in the RNG and added only to your team if they are not signed for other jobs

L'Équipe wrote:F1 CHAMP GAUTHIER RETIRES
The 1986 Formula One World Champion Guillaume Gauthier has announced his retirement from Grand Prix racing ahead of the 1991 season. The 35 year old from Toulon had been struggling with tiredness and low self-esteem which impacted his performance at Benetton Arrows, having only taken a single win in one of the best cars on the grid. Gauthier stated "When racing at the highest level the most important thing is having confidence in your own ability - this is no longer the case."

Gauthier is believed to be exploring the possibility of joining the burgeoning World Touring Car Masters series, which is beginning its fourth season.
