2021 Alternate NASCAR Cup Series - SIGN YO' DRIVERS

The NASCAR Cup Series is back for 2021, and it's under new (canon) management. We're applying the rule of everything being assumed to be the same as in our world unless specified otherwise, but oh boy, there is plenty that is specified to be otherwise.

The 2021 season is being billed as the start of a new era, with changes to almost every aspect of the sport to recapture its early-2000s popularity. In one three-month off-season, NASCAR undid a lot of the changes made over the course of the previous decade or so. These changes included:
  • The reduction to a 30-race Championship schedule.
  • The end of the unpopular Playoffs.
  • The end of the Charter system.
  • The end of stage racing.
In addition to this, extensive changes were made to the qualifying system for Cup races. Mimicking the Daytona 500 format, it was decided that for all 30 rounds of the Championship, one-lap qualifying would set the starting grids for two heat races (as well as deciding the first 20 cars qualified for the feature race), with ten cars from each heat having the opportunity to "race their way in". Anyone could potentially DNQ - nobody is protected from that.

There is also the possibility of two new manufacturers joining the sport: Dodge, and Honda. They will be needing Works teams.

For full details of all the changes, please visit the Wiki page.

2021 Alternate NASCAR Cup Series Teams

The abolition of the Charter System has opened the door for the entries of several new teams, including some of the biggest organisations in American motorsport.

Link in case that doesn't display properly.

Only five teams are currently obliged to remain with their present manufacturers. Similarly, any team can change the size of its armada to anywhere from one car (like Wood Brothers) to four (like Rick Ware) whenever they like, so long as they own the number they are planning to run:

Don't worry if this seems a little opaque right now, everything will be explained as we go along.

The following is a list of suggested drivers for the following season. It does not contain fictional canon drivers who will be available, and nor does it contain drivers from other series who may consider crossing over. Those drivers shall be considered and added as they come up.

Driver costs and attributes will be added in full before we reach driver signing.

For the 2021 Cup Series, there are five manufacturers. Their details are as follows:

Link in case that doesn't display properly.

Please note that the manufacturers are only prepared to offer a certain number of entries the present year's package: 10 for Chevy and Ford, 8 for Toyota and 6 for Dodge and Honda. Please note that this limit does not extend to hired packages.

Alt-NASCAR will have a very different setup with regards to sponsors compared to real-life NASCAR. This is largely to do with maintaining my own sanity.

Each team will sign (or attempt to sign) one sponsor per entry. That sponsor will then be tied to that entry for the entirety of the season, and cannot be changed. If you have signed a driver with a personal sponsor, that sponsor will automatically become the sponsor of that entry for your team.

Sponsor payments will be added in full before we reach sponsor signing.

2021 Alternate NASCAR Cup Series Finances & Upgrades

The Alternate Cup Series uses a credits-based system in the hope that everyone should roughly be able to calculate what their budget should be, without any maths qualifications. Myself included.

Link in case that doesn't display properly.

It is also important to understand the upgrades system that will be in use, as this is how you will be able to improve your team, package and driver(s):

And so, it is time that I ask you all to sign up now for the team of your choice! We will be sticking to one team per user to start with, and Rick Ware Racing has been reserved for Wazzle as it's basically his natural habitat. I have also taken Spire Motorsports, as a nice lower-midfield team to bumble about with and generally not have too many MAJOR CHASE IMPLICATIONS.

I hope you all enjoy, and if you have any questions I'm happy to answer them.

All entries so far have been accepted.

Dom, I've taken your Joe Gibbs entry as a TRD entry is pretty much what 23XI is, and previously Leavine or Furniture Row. If you'd prefer a different team, let me know.

Also, we have our first DILEMMA

ANDRETTI AUTOSPORT - Honda's entry into the Cup Series is on the basis that you will join forces with them as a Works team. Do you accept that offer?

Yes - Andretti becomes the Works Honda team.
No - Andretti remains independent, but Honda's entry into the Cup hangs in the balance.

Andretti accepts being honda's works team. While it will definitley be a long-term project, Andretti truly feels that we will develop the Accord into a strong rival to Toyota and the other manufacturers.

Jayski's Silly Season Site wrote:NY Racing Team Claims To Have New Financial Backers, Will Run Six Cars In 2021
When it was announced once again by the elusive NY Racing Team that they would enter Cup full-time in 2021 last September, few took the claims seriously, and the paddock reacted with mild amusement. However, they have well and truly outdone themselves this time, as team boss Joh Cohen claimed to have secured significant funding from undisclosed sources, and that the team would be in fact fielding six cars in the upcoming season. "We have the funding we need and we are certain we will be favorite to win races in our first year," said Cohen without a hint of sarcasm. "We are also making a commitment to field six full-time cars this year," he added, though it is unclear whether NASCAR would even permit him to field that many under the new regulations. It is unlikely that we will have any definitive answers to these questions until the start of Speedweeks.

Big thanks to everyone who has signed up so far.

I'm going to give it another 24 HOURS for anyone who hasn't signed up yet to do so before we get onto number registration and manufacturer packages.

Any teams who don't get signed up for will be autopiloted for the time being; this will essentially see them be managed in the most vanilla way possible.

As always, I'm happy to answer any questions here or on Discord

2021 Alternate NASCAR Cup Series - NUMBERS AND MANUFACTURERS

Post by Aislabie »

Okay, so we have takers for the following teams:
  • 23XI Racing - Klon
  • Andretti Autosport - Kinnikuniverse (Honda Works)
  • Chip Ganassi Racing - Shawn
  • Front Row Motorsport - Salamander
  • Gaunt Brothers Racing - Getz
  • Go Fas Racing - TCBY
  • Hattori Racing Enterprises - Petoli
  • Hendrick Motorsports - Santinoformule1 (Chevrolet Works)
  • Joe Gibbs Racing - Dom (Toyota Works)
  • JTG-Daughtry Racing - Pasta
  • Kaulig Racing - V8fan12
  • NY Racing Team - Illuminardi
  • Richard Childress Racing - Pinkd56
  • Rick Ware Racing - Wazzle
  • Roush Fenway Racing - CarloSpace (Ford Works)
  • Spire Motorsports - Aislabie

The remaining teams will be run on an "autopilot" system, essentially by making the least controversial possible decisions to provide a relatively blank slate for those who might pick them up later:
  • Beard Motorsports
  • Dragon Racing
  • Germain Racing
  • Leavine Family Racing
  • Live Fast Motorsports
  • MBM Motorsports
  • Premium Motorsports
  • Richard Petty Motorsports
  • StarCom Racing
  • Stewart-Haas Racing
  • Team Keller Racing
  • Team Penske (Dodge Works) - The autopilot will be accepting this offer.
  • Tommy Baldwin Racing
  • Trackhouse Racing
  • Wood Brothers Racing

The next step managing your teams:

We are now at the "numbers and manufacturers" stage. Teams can go into debt during the season, but will be declared bankrupt if they are still in debt by the start of the next season., which is mostly but not exclusively directed at NY Racing Team.

Number Registration:
NASCAR numbers are effectively franchises, and any team can run between one and four of them in a season. To register a number to your team will cost 5 cr. Any number can be run as a full or part time entry: a full time entry costs you 20 cr and a part time entry costs you 1cr per race. I would like you to specify which kind of entry you plan to run at this stage. (see: finances)

Package Selection:
As you can see by visiting the Manufacturers page, each manufacturer has its own costs and benefits. They also have their own limits on full-time entries that they will provide the current year's package for. Each number must stay with the same package all season, but two cars within the same team could run the different packages - although manufacturers won't look upon this favourably if you ask for factory support. It is also recommended that part-time entries use a Hire package, at a cost of 1cr per race.

So what should the form look like?
Like this:

Team:

Car 1:
Entry type:
Manufacturer approaches:
1.
2.
3.

Car 2:
