HOME | TEAMS | DRIVERS | MANUFACTURERS
SPONSORS | CALENDAR | FINANCES & UPGRADES | WIKI

Greetings all and welcome to the Manufacturer RNG!

We shall begin with what has already been established:

  • Hendrick Motorsports are the Chevrolet Works team. The #9, #24, #48 and #88 will be Chevys
  • Team Penske are the Dodge Works team. The #2, #12 and #22 will be factory Dodges. They're also running a hired Dodge #33 at Daytona
  • Roush Fenway Racing are the Ford Works team. The #6 and #17 will be Fords, as will the Wood Brothers #21 (Factory)
  • Andretti Autosport are the Honda Works team. The #25, #26, #27 and #28 will be Hondas
  • Joe Gibbs Racing are the Toyota Works team. The #11, #18, #19 and #20 will be Toyotas. Also running Toyotas will be the #23 for 23XI, which was founded on the basis of a technical linkup with the manufacturer through driver Denny Hamlin.

So those are the slam dunks; now for the fun part. With each manufacturer only offering a limited number of current-season cars, the market is crowded:

  • Chevrolet will offer six more current-season (Factory or Customer) packages
  • Dodge will offer three more current-season packages
  • Ford will offer seven more current-season packages
  • Honda will offer two more current-season packages
  • Toyota will offer three more current-season packages

Any teams who don't get those will be stuck with Legacy or Hire packages. The process will be to start with first choice offers everywhere, then work down - manufacturers like to know their plans well in advance.

The most restricted supply is that of Honda. They only have two available packages for applicant teams so competition will be stiff.

Or at least it would have been.

Unfortunately for Honda, not a single team had them as their first choice. :badoer:

Next up is Toyota. They have three packages available, and seven applicants for them; it won't be easy:
  • NY Racing Team - 2 cars (#44, #82)
  • Hattori Racing Enterprises - 2 cars (#61, #81)
  • MBM Motorsports - 1 car (#66)
  • Leavine Family Racing - 1 car (#95)
  • Gaunt Brothers Racing - 1 car (#96)

The odds are as follows:
1-30 - Provides both NY Racing packages (no-one knows where the money is coming from, but bit plans are promised)
31-50 - Provides both Hattori packages (they're a solid Trucks team after all)
51-60 - Provides MBM current-year machinery rather than the usual Legacy stuff
61-90 - Provides Leavine current-year machinery, like they have the last two years
91-100 - Provides Gaunt Brothers with current-year machinery rather than the usual legacy stuff
(Numbers will be drawn until all three packages are allocated)

71
Leavine Family Racing will get Factory Toyotas

So, there are two packages left...
22
NY Racing Team gets the current-year Toyotas, against all financial sense. Perhaps Toyota are hoping this will generate headlines?

Next up we have Dodge - there will be three current-year packages to come from the returning manufacturer too, and a surprising amount of interest in them.

  • Go Fas want one Dodge car (#32)
  • Front Row want two Dodge cars (#34 and #38)
  • Rick Ware want four Dodge cars... which will require boardroom kerfuffles to deal with if it comes to it
  • And Dragon want one Dodge car (#79)

The odds are as follows:
1-20 - Go Fas, who have increasingly edged towards the midfield lately
21-60 - Front Row Motorsports find a new home
61-80 - RICK WARE ARMADA
81-100 - It's Jay Penske time ladies and gents

58
Front Row Motorsports have secured themselves two Factory cars - a clear statement of ambition

Now, Rick Ware has never been opposed to running cars of all different manufacturers, so we'll adjust the RNG slightly:
1-40 - Go Fas
41-45 - Rick Ware #51
46-50 - Rick Ware #52
51-55 - Rick Ware #53
56-60 - Rick Ware #54
61-100 - Dragon

37
Puns will abound the first time a Dodge Goes Slo.

Additionally, this means that Dragon will not be entering the Cup Series after all, as Jay Penske decides he'll be committing to Formula E ackshually.

Now for the Chevy contingent. Six of those are available, which is always nice but unfortunately, there are five more bums than there are seats to put them in.

On the table we have:
  • StarCom, with their Houffmobile (#00)
  • Chip Ganassi Racing, two cars (#1, #42)
  • Richard Childress Racing, moving up to three cars (#3, #8, #29)
  • Tommy Baldwin Racing (#7)
  • Germain Racing (#13)
  • Premium Motorsports (#15)
  • Richard Petty Motorsport (#43)
  • Trackhouse Racing (#99)
Now erm, there are some obvious preferences from the Chevy side of things

The odds are:
1-40 - Ganassi continues their fruitful association with Ganassi
41-80 - RCR might not be the powerhouse they used to be, but it's the 3. That's history.
81-90 - The King's team keeps its Chevys
91-94 - There's something intriguing about a team owned by Pitbull
95-98 - Germain Racing have been loyal Chevy customers for a while, and tend to do well at Daytona
99 - The only thing that's Premium is the name.
100 - HOUFF

55
RCR confirms that they're staying on with Chevy.

38
As does Ganassi. So far, so normal, but now there's only one package left.

94
Image

This is not a good time for Richard Petty Motorsports, who might have hoped for slightly more favourable treatment given that it's Richard bathplug Petty. The King is apparently on his way to Richard Childress's house and he's after blood. Something to do with "third car".

Finally, Ford. They've got a luxurious seven current-year cars available, and only nine offers for them.

  • Stewart-Haas Racing's four cars look like a near-cert (#4, #10, #14, #41)
  • Kaulig Racing are in the market for a Customer Ford to make their start in Cup (#16)
  • JTG-Daughtery Racing hope for another year of superspeedway specialisation (#37, #47)
  • Spire also wants a customer gig (#77)
  • And so does Live Fast (#78)

However, there's also a chance for Ford to lure back the Petty name, which they are interested in doing

The odds:
1-60 - Stewart Haas to be on Ford's books
61-65 - It'd be a strong package for a debutant team
66-86 - Let's see how many of these bad boys Ricky Stenhouse crashes
87-89 - Well I guess Justin Haley did win that one time when there was that thunderstorm
90-92 - Live Fast Motorsport does invite some good pun value
93-100 - It's Richard bathplug Petty

53
Naturally.

86
They were almost but not quite swayed by the allure of Justin Haley, Cup Series race winner.

90
Richard bathplug Petty is not a happy man.

So, amazingly, that is all of the current-year packages doled out -- *phone ringing*.

What is this?

Image "You forgot about us"
"Sorry who is this?"
Image "Honda"
"Hon-who?"
Image "The new manufacturer. We've got two packages to dole out"

And so, the Honda Sweepstakes begin. There are several teams who have expressed an interest. None of them are especially good, but they do exist:
  • Kaulig #16
  • Hattori #61
  • Hattori #81
  • There's also the RPM #43; he's not asked for it, but Honda are considering just sending him a Honda to see if he'll run it

The odds are:
1-35 - Kaulig get a current-year-mobile
36-70 - Hattori get two current-year-mobiles
71-100 - Ring Ring Mr Petty

6

Now, Honda are prepared to offer a current-spec package to one Hattori car

1-55 - Hattori get one current-year Honda
56-100 - Hello Mr Petty, we've not heard back from our call earlier

68

Image

"Office of Richard Petty, who is this?"
Image "This is Art St Cyr, head of auto operations for American Honda"
"Sorry sir, do you have an appointment?"
Image "No, I'm following up on several previous calls to your office. Oh and I also tweeted Mr Petty"
"I'm afraid we don't have any record of that on the system sir."
Image "Well I did call."
"If you had there would be a record of it. The secretary records these things."
Image "Could you put Mr Petty on please?"
"Please state your name and business..."
Image *angry Honda noises*
*Please hold*

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0s6bv4yayOk

Howdy, this is Richard Petty"
Image "Mr Petty, I couldn't help noticing that you don't currently have a current-year package for the 2021 Cup Series"
"I most certainly do not. Richard Childress went and entered a third car and... anyway, no I don't."
Image "Well, we here at Honda have one package going and wondered if you might be interested."
It's... RNG time!
1-50 - "I am an all-American racer, and I'd rather run a year-old Ford than a current-year Honda. Good day sir."
51-100 - "I'm listening."

23
Image

Hattori Racing Enterprises get a current year Honda.

Additionally, the following teams have provisions for Legacy deals:
  • JTG-Daughtery #85 (Ford)
  • MBM Motorsports #66 (Toyota)
  • Premium Motorsports #15 (Chevrolet)
  • Rick Ware Racing #51, #52, #53, #54 (All Toyota)
  • StarCom Racing #00 (Chevrolet)
  • Tommy Baldwin Racing #7 (Chevrolet)

This does leave a few full-time entries without a deal:
  • Germain Racing (#13) - Autopilot will accept Chevy Legacy
  • Richard Petty Motorsports (#43) - Autopilot will accept Chevy Hire for all 30 races
  • Spire Motorsports (#77) - I'll take a Chevy Hire for all 30 races
  • Hattori Racing Enterprises (#81) - TBC
  • Gaunt Brothers Racing (#96) - Toyota Hire for 30 races is expected, but TBC
    ... I think that's everyone

Many thanks to all who joined on the Discord for the live RNG last night. The next phase will be explained as soon as I've updated the spreadsheets.

Gaunt Brothers is disappointed with not getting a customer deal with Toyota, but we will take a full-season Toyota (Hire) Option for #96. This includes any NASCAR races that the #96 may qualify for later on (Clash, Open, All-Star Race, Masters, Exhibition).

2021 Alternate NASCAR Cup Series - DRIVER HIRING

Post by Aislabie »

Image

HOME | TEAMS | DRIVERS | MANUFACTURERS
SPONSORS | CALENDAR | FINANCES & UPGRADES | WIKI

Thank you all for sorting out the manufacturer bidding so far, and sorry for the slight delay to proceedings since then. It is now time to begin the process of bidding on drivers to drive those cars.

For reference, here is a list of suggested drivers.

Link in case that doesn't display properly.

That is not an exhaustive list; fictional canon drivers and other names from elsewhere in motorsports can be offered drives, though it will of course be up to the RNG gods whether they take you up on the offer.

Some drivers also come with a personal sponsor - if this is the case, it will mean that you will not be able to sign a sponsor for that car in the sponsor RNG that comes after this. That does not apply to all drivers who bring funding, only those where it is specified.

You can sign multiple drivers to complete a revolving door in one car if you want; there are certainly some paying drivers where that will work for you. In the case of a driver being described as Flexible that means that they will be open to full or part time drives, they just want to be on the grid.

If a driver is currently contracted to your team, that doesn't mean you have to keep them - but if you do, then you will not have less than a 50% chance of retaining them no matter who comes sniffing in the RNG.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

So what should the form look like?
Like this:

Team:

Car #??:
1. Driver name (Rounds offered)
2. Driver name (Rounds offered)
3. Driver name (Rounds offered)

Road Course ringer anyone? British jack-of-all-trades Henry Paul, 27 is very unoccupied at the moment.

He's won in IFRC, dabbled in rallycross, was a test driver in Formula E and once dreamt that he won his class in an FIA Endurance Challenge race - but later realised the series never existed. Regardless, he's a safe pair of hands and is happy to drive literally anything.

Travis will vouch for Paul:

Travis Crabtree wrote:Paul is a great racer. We raced in GT back in Europe, got a few wins in the World Endurance Challenge with the same car. If you need someone who can wheel a heavy car around a road course, he is top billing,

If he brings money (literally anything) he can do Charlotte, Homestead (Roval + Oval), and the Glen (if JV isn't interested) for JTG's #85
