Gilles Villeneuve Sweepstakes

All multi-bid offers have been run, and that has lead to several changes up and down the grid. The current lineups can be found here.

In short, Gilles Villeneuve is now out of a seat.

At this point, anyone who hasn't signed a driver can edit their bids to include an offer for Gilles Villeneuve.
Additionally, any team can sack their current signed driver at no cost to hire Gilles Villeneuve.

If you are interested in signing Gilles, please post below. You also need to tell me if you have edited your bids, or if you are sacking a driver to bid for Gilles.

Good luck!

Image Scuderia Ferrari emergency driver bids

Car #2
1. Image James Hunt (£150,000 for two years)
2. Image Nelson Piquet (£150,000 for one year)
3. Image Elio de Angelis (£100,000 for one year, offer only applies if Autodelta let him go)
4. Image Keke Rosberg (£50,000 for two years, and a Group 4-spec 308 GTB to run on Finnish backroads)
5. Image Alain Prost (£50,000 for two years)

Now, we are well aware that Hunt and Piquet are both under contract, but encourage them to consider that choosing a future at the FOCA-aligned Brabham would mean choosing a very precarious future indeed.

Williams driver bids for Brands Hatch because Alan Jones has PTSD from last year:

1. Alain Prost
Wage: 5,000 for Brands, 75,000 for 1980
Duration: Brands Hatch + possible NC races + reserve driver in 1979 + full season in 1980

2. Alain Prost, but if he doesn't want to commit to a full season in 1980 then just the deal for Brands Hatch

3. Rick Mears
Wage: 10,000
Duration: Brands Hatch

4. Al Unser
Wage: 10,000
Duration: Brands Hatch

5. Jacky Ickx
Wage: 5,000
Duration: Brands Hatch

Furthermore, Williams will participate in the Gilles Villeneuve sweepstakes, offering him 150,000 for the season. He would take the place of Patrick Depailler.

Autosport wrote:Enzo Ferrari "disappointed" by Scheckter departure

Image
The eponymous Ferrari team boss is not happy with the proceedings of the '78-'79 off season.

Enzo Ferrari has today lashed out at the now former Ferrari driver Jody Scheckter, whose decision to leave the storied Italian team has played a large part in this off-season being a chaotic one.

"I do not know what more he wanted from us," an irate Ferrari told Autosport's Bake Loxall-Jegge. "We have consistently given him Championship-level cars to drive and he has driven them with distinction. And then we got to Watkins Glen last year and well... we all know what happened there."

Indeed we do - Gilles Villeneuve collided with the rear of his teammate's car attempting a needless overtake, causing terminal damage. To add insult to injury, Villeneuve would later retire due to debris left on the track from the crash. This incident may well have cost Ferrari all three Championships in 1978, so its importance cannot be overstated.

"It was after that that Scheckter asked us to find him a new teammate," Ferrari says, "And though I had come to care for Gilles like a son, I could see that encouraging him to find a drive elsewhere would be best for the team."

Such is the pulling power of Ferrari that Villeneuve's replacement was none other than reigning double World Champion Mario Andretti. Satisfied that he had secured his personnel for the coming season, the team principal and patriarch was feeling optimistic. Until, that is, the team's first Fiorano test session since hiring Andretti.

"So he comes to me in my office - Rocchi I mean - and says, 'Sig. Ferrari, Jody won't drive the car.' I came out to see what was going on and Scheckter asks me outright 'Have you signed Andretti?' I told him that I had and he said that wasn't fair on him - that I was meant to hire him a teammate, not a rival. Now Mario, we've spoken in the paddock. He's a good man, good Italian man even with that American thing he's got going on. I was disappointed. I'm not about to fire him because some other driver tells me to."

So what was the outcome of the situation? But given that two days after that conversation, Colin Chapman announced that he had secured the services of Scheckter to replace Andretti, it seems that Scheckter offered an ultimatum - and came out of it second-best. What this will mean for the two top teams in Formula One - both of whom have come out and stated that they expect to win the World Championship in 1979 - is as yet unclear. As is the fate of Gilles Villeneuve, which has yet to be announced.

Autosprint wrote:Dywa F1 Team To Offer Gilles Villeneuve Test Driver Role
In yet another twist what can only be described as a crazy F1 offseason, perennial DNPQers and strangers to reality Dywa have offered Canadian driver Gilles Villeneuve a spot as a test driver with their team. Villeneuve, who is currently looking for a seat after being dumped by Ferrari to bring in defending champion Mario Andretti, is said to be exploring all available options to be on the grid for 1979, but we can fairly safely assume that he is treating offers from the likes of Williams in a different manner to this offer, which would see him doing testing for a team that is not even doing the full season. When contacted by us for an explanation as to his intentions, Mr. Monguzzi took no time to make a response. "We are sure that Villeneuve's experience with a team of a similar calibre to ours, as well as the sponsorship money he brings, will be an invaluable asset to our operations going forward," he said, raising the more concerning question as to whether Mr. Monguzzi is indeed even on Planet Earth. Wherever Villeneuve goes in this offseason, it seems fairly obvious that it will not be to Canegrate.

Drivers:
The driver RNG has concluded! All teams now have their contingents of drivers. The current line-ups can be found here.

The RNG odds can be found in #rejectsport-market on the discord server, or in this album: https://imgur.com/a/i7YAEi2

Chassis

New chassis are constructed in just the same way as last season. Your designer adds their stats after chassis construction. You can either:
- Construct a brand new chassis
- Run your old chassis from last year. Aging penalties will apply.
- Buy a customer chassis. (If you buy the Lola, you become the works team)

As always, the variables you need to know are:
- Grip: duh
- Build Quality (BQ): Inherent reliability of your car. 1 point = 1 rel
- Handling: Random Grip Range. 1 point = 100 RGR
- Drag: 1 point = -1 BHP
- Mass: 1 point = -1 grip

Chassis tier information is on the spreadsheet.

Sell Chassis
You have the option to sell your chassis to collectors for 10% of it's build value. This ONLY applies to chassis you have built yourself. You cannot sell chassis to other teams. Obviously, if you sell your chassis, you have to build or buy a new one.

Upgrades

If you are running your 1978 chassis, you can upgrade your car before the first race.

Bluescope Racing to enter Formula One?
Talk over in the NASCAR scene, as heard rumours that NASCAR team, Bluescope Racing is eyeing of competing in the Formula One races outside of America with team manager eyeing in competing at the Argentine, Brazilian and the three North American races in the schedule.

In a press conference held at Riverside, team manager Bailey Howard declared that he had an interest in competing in Formula One to expand the brand name despite the limited schedule that he ran during the previous two seasons. Of course, rumours like this have happened before with Vel's Parnelli Jones Racing not entering the 1978 United States Grand Prix West despite being on the entry list. For now, it will just be a waiting game.

Looking at this, I am declaring interest in running a North American based team if you need numbers for the American races.

Image Scuderia Ferrari Chassis

Ferrari will be building the Ferrari 312T4. It will be an AG tier chassis. We'll roll the dice with the Random Bonus.

We do not currently have any plans to sell the old cars, as Enzo likes to have them knocking about at Fiorano.

B&S Fabrications will be building the Spartec G71A. It will be an FG tier chassis. We will not roll the dice with the Random Bonus.

We do not currently have any chassis to sell, but will gratefully accept donations via our Patreon. If we were allowed to sell our chassis as a customer car, and someone was mad enough to buy it, we would happily do so.
