Ronnie Peterson has left the Ensign team with immediate effect, a source close to the outfit has revealed to Autosport. Peterson, who competed for Ligier at last weekend's Gunnar Nilsson Memorial Trophy, is reportedly now without a contract after leaving the team he has raced for since 1977.

AutoPilot Magazine wrote:Team Ensign demands protest of Ligier and FISA, calls for Bernie support

Early reports this morning suggest that Guy Ligier and his struggling, shoddy French failure of an outfit have somehow managed to sign Ronnie Petersen for the GN Memorial Trophy. ... Mo Nunn and Team Ensign demand an immediate investigation into Petersen and Ligier and call for FOCA and Bernie Eccelstone to call for strong punishment.

Ronnie Peterson is now available for hire. Due to the Incident at the German Grand Prix, Peterson has to be on the grid for this race. This means:
- Peterson is 100% likely to race for one of the teams that bid for him.
- Peterson will sign for the rest of 1979 only, but will have a preference for your team next year (if he is still around).
- Peterson still needs to be paid at least minimum wage.
- Peterson will decide which team he goes to in the usual RNG.
- If there is only one bid, Peterson will race for that team, unless:
- There are no bids / only Dywa have bidded, in which case a team of my choosing will have Peterson foisted upon them for narrative purposes (and will not pay his wages for 1979).

Ronnie Peterson sweepstakes

LolaBoro and Arrows' bids were solid offers until Renault came along
After years in nearly-there machinery he's itching for a taste at race-winning engineering
So naturally, Renault are the favourites
1-20 LolaBoro
21-50 WANSR
51-100 Renault
999 Dywa
Infinity and beyond Ensign

94!

So, Peterson moves to Renault for the German Grand Prix. Ensign need to nominate a replacement or will be given a forfeit driver.

In another political twist in this year’s Formula One season, FISA President Jean-Marie Balestre has RW-iterated that he is not willing to let unpaid driver fines go. Frank Williams and the entire team will send condolences to the loved ones of Tom Pryce, as well as the Tyrrell team. We have no problem with our test driver John Watson joining Tyrrell if he wishes so.

To Jean-Marie Balestre: Have fun trying to fill a grid with FISA teams, Ferrari are too far behind in the championship anyways, we're not worried about losing points to them. We're encouraging Colin Chapman and Lotus not to give in to Balestre's demands either. If both Championship-contending teams refuse to race in response to Balestre's continued abuse of power, it will send the necessary signal to FISA.

J.O.U.R.N.A.L. wrote:Jacky Ickx Fired: Marlboro and McLaren Staff Team Up Against Mayer

in a press conference on August 17, Marlboro Team McLaren announced that the team and Belgian driver Jacky Ickx have "mutually parted ways". Of course, shortly thereafter, Belgian media learned that Ickx's termination was not quite as mutual as implied: McLaren management simply had fired the Belgian despite him scoring all but one of the team's championship points.

The Belgian was informed of his release by Teddy Mayer a day before the press conference. According to our sources, this decision was made after Mayer lost the backing of his team's staff, who were impressed by Clay Regazzoni's outings in the Gunnar Nilsson Memorial Trophy and his podium at the Austrian Grand Prix and demanded a re-hiring of the Swiss star.

Added pressure from team sponsor Philip Morris Inc., who were never fully supportive of tiring Ickx, meant that Meyer was no longer capable of keeping him aboard. Meyer, who was the biggest supporter of Ickx in the team, announced that Ickx's replacement will be introduced shortly before the start of the first practice session of the Dutch Grand Prix.

You heard the questionable newspaper:
Jacky Ickx is released from his contract and an offer is made to the following drivers to take his spot for the rest of the year:
1) Clay Regazzoni, minimum wage
2) Patrick Tambay, minimum wage
3) Hope Stever, whatever money she can cough up

Autosprint wrote:Renzo Engineering Unveil New Turbo Engine; Dywa Become Second Turbo F1 Team
Just as it seemed that the drama had come to an end at Dywa, the enigmatic Canegrate outfit has dropped a bombshell on the whole Formula 1 world by announcing it would be showing up to the Dutch Grand Prix with a turbo engine. Up until now, Renault has been the sole turbo-powered team, and their breakthroughs with their turbo this year have raised many an eyebrow within the paddock. It was only a matter of time before someone else developed a turbo, but few expected that Renzo Engineering would be the first to join Renault in the turbo club. "We cannot give technical details on our new engine, but we can assure that it has been tested thoroughly already, with a special thanks to Signore Zorzi and Signorina Cacciatori for their work in doing so. They will be debuting the new engine at the Dutch Grand Prix. We had initially planned to debut the engine in 1980 but we have decided to bring this forward to get some racing experience under our belts with the new turbo engine," said a joint Dywa-Renzo statement on the unveiling of the new BI-3T engine. Dywa-Renzo's carrying out of testing indicates that the team might be turning a new leaf in their Formula 1 endeavour, and it also explains their hitherto-inexplicable offers to F1 drivers without a seat to become their test driver. Amidst the turmoil surrounding the imminent FISA-FOCA summit to be held at the Dutch Grand Prix, it is unclear how much of the spotlight will be turned on the Renzo turbo, but undoubtedly we can expect to see more manufacturers join the turbo club in the years to come.

Additional Notes:
Guido Dacco and Enrico Uncini are hereby released from Dywa, effective immediately. Renzo Zorzi and Ottavia Cacciatori shall drive the #35 and #36 cars respectively for Zandvoort and Monza.
