You mean Hall and Shaw, right? Since Hatton has declined your offer in favour of JAS Motorsport.

But you only need 2 race engineers in total, 1 for each car. You can't hire all 3 of them.

Hall and Shaw it is then.

You still have the following options

1.) If you’ve already received positive feedback from potential employees, you can either make a deal with them or not. Those you rejected will go back to the pool until someone else bids for them in our next round.

2.) If you were unable to make a deal yet, you can either bid for up to 4 other race engineers or engineering graduates, or you can wait and see who goes back to the pool due to being rejected by another competitor. Should you want to do that, please read the 3rd option below.

3.) Should a certain race engineer or engineering graduate you bid for be rejected by the competitor she wanted to make a deal with, you can reinstate your original offer or make changes to it, such as lowering or increasing the proposed salary.

I think it’s best to return to our old schedule now that I’m back, which means our new deadline is Tuesday the 25th of September. :)

Chapter 9 – Tyre Suppliers (Part 1)

The next step on your to-do list is to find a suitable tyre supplier, except for CaptainGetz12 who already has a fix supplier as per contract. And due to his Team Status, his team automatically gets factory-backing, meaning: All rubber Goodyear produces this season will be designed specifically for the Camaro GT3.

As you’ve just noticed, tyre suppliers can also have agendas. They might focus on the most promising team and supply them with their best compounds. All other teams supplied by the same tyre company can benefit from that, but it’s just as likely that the rubber designed for a certain GT3 car does not work too well on a different model from a different brand. This does not apply, however, if all teams supplied by the same tyre company are customer teams or have about the same level of Team Reputation.

As with all other companies in this game, factory-backing is possible, but hard to come by. Just because you’re the most promising team supplied by a certain tyre company does not automatically grant you factory-backing. Only factory-backed teams receive their rubber for free, everyone else has to pay for it.

List of available tyre suppliers for this season

Code: Select all
TYRE COMPANY   FULL SEASON    6 PLUS TEST    SET SLICKS   SET WETS

Avon           480.000 Cr.    260.000 Cr.    1.800 Cr.    2.000 Cr.
Bridgestone    775.000 Cr.    400.000 Cr.    3.000 Cr.    3.000 Cr.

Yokohama       650.000 Cr.    325.000 Cr.    2.500 Cr.    2.500 Cr.
The prices in this list do not reflect the quality or reliability of the compounds in question! The quality difference between these suppliers is also not as drastic as it was during the Women’s GT World Championship back in 2014, but it’s still very much noticable.

Full Season Supply Package
This deal supplies your team with a fix number of tyre sets (126 sets of slicks and 126 sets of wets), and slaps a few extra bucks on top for good measure (development costs). Pro: It’s easy, spares you the nightmare of calculating your team’s probable consumption yourself, and you won’t run out of tyres under normal and some not-so-normal circumstances. Contra: It’s definitely more expensive then doing your own calculation and ordering accordingly. And you might end up with a lot of unused, outdated rubber by the end of the season, which is then only good for bluffing during official pre-season testing the following year, but not for serious racing anymore.

6 Plus Test Supply Package
This translates to „6 Race Weekends plus 2 Test Days“ and supplies your team with enough sets to make it through the first half of the season, including the pre-season tests (64 sets of slicks and 64 sets of wets). Again, a little more expensive than doing your own calculation, but it gives you the opportunity during the official mid-season break to either order this package once more for the remainder of the season, or continue with your own calculation plus what’s left of your initial order.

Just in case you should not trust my calculation, here’s how I got my numbers:

Both compounds (slicks and wets) are designed to last a full race distance. Depending on the track surface, however, letting a set of tyres go full race distance might not be the wisest thing to do. Luckily, there’s a mandatory mid-race pitstop, and we’ll get to that later.

You need both sets of tyres – slicks and wets, because you never know what weather you’ll have to face during a race weekend. A set consists, of course, of 4 tyres. To be able to equip both of your cars at the same time, you already need 2 tyre sets of any kind. Add to that the weather factor, that’s 2 sets of slicks (1 for each car) and 2 sets of wets (1 for each car).

Now let’s move on to the calculation example I developed for the „Full Season Supply Package“ each supplier offers:

A race weekend consists of 1 qualifying and 1 race. Each race comes with a mandatory pitstop for a driver change, which you can also use as a chance to change tyres. Certain tracks have a habit of eating tyres, as you might recall. Zandvoort is such a candidate. And you’ll be forced to change tyres when the weather suddenly changes, of course. That would amount to 2 sets of slicks and 2 sets of wets for 1 car (4 sets in total for 1 car, 8 sets in total for both cars). It’s never a bad idea to have a spare set lying around somewhere, just in case, which adds up to 3 sets of slicks and 3 sets of wets for 1 car (6 sets in total for 1 car, 12 sets in total of both cars).

Qualifying might need less sets, but all sets used during qualifying are basically done for, so you can’t use 1 set of tyres for the entire weekend. Let’s say you need 2 sets of each compound for each car (2 slicks, 2 wets). That amounts to 4 sets in total for 1 car, 8 sets in total for both cars.

Right now, 1 race weekend alone demands a total 10 sets of slicks and 10 sets of wets (20 sets in total for both cars) already. Sure, not all of these sets are going to be used up during such a weekend, but you should not expect to always come out with a lot of spares after each round. Since you can’t calculate the chance of a tyre damage, better be safe than sorry. As I’ve said: Some tracks eat more rubber than others, and weather is always a fickle entity.

Each season consists of 12 rounds, so just multiply the number of tyre sets mentioned above times 12 and you have the total amount of tyre sets you need for the race weekends of an entire season. 10 sets of slicks x 12 = 120 sets / same with the sets of wets. All in all 240 sets of tyres!

But wait, don’t forget the official pre-season test session, which is mandatory, so you must show up with both cars! That makes two more days, adding another 2 or even 3 sets of both compounds of tyres for each car to your list. Again, you don’t know what weather you’ll be facing, so better pack slicks AND wets! Should you also need a few unofficial tests on top, you can either use up the stock you still have, because my calculation is quite generous, or you might be forced to buy even more rubber, if you’ve done your own calculation.

Your Personal Calculation

You can most certainly make your very own calculation and buy tyre sets accordingly, even race-by-race. The set prices are given in the list above. This can come cheaper for you, but if you miscalculate, you might run out of tyres during the race weekend! And that’s really bad, because you can only order in advance, but not on the race weekend itself. Sure, you could purchase some spares from a competitor, but their prices might be even more outrageous than what I could come up with.

And as long as you only have Customer Status, you can even switch tyre suppliers at any given time during the season, if you think that’s necessary.

It’s all up to you, whether you choose the easy or the more complicated route. Should you decide to go for a personal calculation and struggle with that, you can always ask your Team Manager for help. That’s what she’s there for (amongst other duties). But please keep in mind that if you already struggle for spare time in real-life, attempting to do your own calculation and order tyres on a race-by-race basis might not be the wisest thing to do!

And how do I know what’s the ideal tyre supplier for my team?

As before, there is an easy route to this, and a not-so-easy one.

The Easy Route: Manufacturer Recommendation
All manufacturers have vast experience with different tyre suppliers, so it’s only logical to ask your personal contact for an official recommendation on which supplier to choose. It’s also the cheapest way, because it doesn’t call for any unofficial test sessions, which can be quite expensive. While this option definitely is the safest way to go, it is possible, though not very likely, that you might discover an even better tyre supplier through unofficial tests.

Luckily for you, neither „Faulty Perception“ nor „Restless Perfectionist“ are triggered by this manufacturer recommendation. This whole tyre topic is complicated and expensive enough, so I thought it to be best not to handicap you even more by bringing the bad habits into this. They will be a huge problem for you soon enough anyway.

Here’s the list of manufacturer recommendations. Listed are manufacturers competing in the inaugural Women’s GT Masters season only. Some manufacturers can recommend more than one fitting tyre supplier.

Code: Select all
MANUFACTURER          RECOMMENDED TYRE SUPPLIER(S)

Ascari                Michelin
Aston Martin          Dunlop, Michelin, Pirelli, Yokohama
Audi                  Pirelli, Yokohama
BMW                   Michelin, Yokohama
Chevrolet             Goodyear
Ford                  Yokohama
Lamborghini           Pirelli
Lotus                 Dunlop
McLaren               Michelin
Mercedes-Benz         Yokohama
Morgan                Michelin
Nissan                Pirelli

The Not-so-easy Route: Unofficial Tyre Tests
An official manufacturer recommendation is fine and dandy, but what if there is a much better supplier out there, and your trusted brand hasn’t realized that yet? Only one way to find out – and you have 2 possible types of tests you could organize:

1.) An unofficial tyre test with a brand-familiar test driver
Tyre suppliers have contacts to racing drivers, who do tests for them on a regular basis. You can get in touch with a number of tyre suppliers you deem fitting and ask for an unofficial tyre test. Of course, you have to pay for said test, but it will provide you with sufficient data to plan your next step(s). All you need to do is find a test track, get the test driver your tyre supplier(s) deems fitting over there and start testing. Your Team Manager will give you a rundown on the expenses of such a test.

2.) An unofficial tyre test with an independent test driver
But won’t the lap times differ because every tyre supplier has hired a different driver? Yes, they probably will. The only thing certain is that the brand-familiar driver knows what the tyres in question are capable of. So she will always go to the very limit while testing. If that’s still not enough for you, you can organize a test with an independent test driver. Just hire a driver of your own choice, or possibly choose from the list of test drivers your manufacturer contact can provide you with, pay her for the test day(s) and let her test all potential suppliers (and their products) in succession. The only downside is – you’ve guessed it! – the driver you hire might not be familiar with each and every supplier, so she might need more track time to find the limit, or she might never find the limit at all. As before, your Team Manager can give you a rundown on the expenses of such a test as well.

No matter which decision you end up making, be sure to look at all the pros and cons you can find! Our new deadline is Wednesday the 3rd of October!

What I need from you until then is this:

Team Name: (your team’s name)
Tyre Supplier: (your preference)
Unofficial Tyre Test(s): (yes / no)

In what intervals you’d like to order is not important right now! This will all be part of the second half of this chapter. Through the form above I’ll be able to deduce which tyre manufacturer might actually be willing to hand out factory-backing. Good luck! :)

Steffi had just got off the phone with Nissan, who had advised her of some great gains they had made with Pirelli. On the other hand, drivers were champing at the bit for test days, and knowledge of multiple tyre manufacturers would certainly prove valuable.

But, deciding there are too many variables in their first season, Steffi decided to just stick with the knowledge that Nissan passed on. After all, they can't get it too wrong, right?

Chapter 9: Tyre Suppliers (Part 2)

Taking all your preferences into consideration, here’s how the tyre market currently looks like:

Dunlop
Prospective Buyer(s): DRS Morgan Motorsport (dr-baker), Red Bull Lotus Racing (V8fan12)

Special Offer: Dunlop is willing to grant DRS Morgan Motorsport factory-backing for this season. Renewal of this contract for another season is optional. Factory-backing consists of the Full Season Supply Package, including all official tests. Unofficial tests excluded. Full tyre set prices for unofficial tests.

Goodyear
Prospective Buyer(s): KV Racing Technology (CaptainGetz12)

As per contract with Chevrolet, KV Racing Technology gets factory-backing for this season. Renewal of this contract for another season is optional. Factory-backing consists of the Full Season Supply Package, including all official tests. Unofficial tests excluded, but paid for by Chevrolet. All tyre compounds are specifically designed for the Chevrolet Camaro GT3.

Michelin
Prospective Buyer(s): DRS Morgan Motorsport (dr-baker), Red Bull Lotus Racing (V8fan12), BKR Motorsport (RedEyes504), Motorsport Bleu (Bleu)

Special Offer: Michelin is willing to give both BKR Motorsport and Red Bull Lotus Racing 50% off of all tyre set prices and/or supply package prices this season. Official tests included, unofficial tests excluded. Full tyre set prices for unofficial tests. The Michelin-supplied team with the highest position in the Constructors’ Championship at the end of this season will be granted an upgrade to full factory-backing for next season (Season 4).

Pirelli
Prospective Buyer(s): JAS Motorsport (Gertrand Bachot), Monster Schmidt Racing Team (AustralianStig), Scuderia Mediterranea (novitopoli)

Special Offer: As we’ve heard from Nismo, they’re intending to enter a factory-backed effort for Season 4, thus we’re willing to grant both Nissan customer teams 50% off of all tyre sets and/or supply packages this season, but only under the condition that both teams get supplied by us. This deal includes official tests as well. Unofficial tests excluded. Full tyre set prices for unofficial tests.

Yokohama
Prospective Buyer(s): Alpina Team Meeuvissen (NPT)

Special Offer: Factory-backing for this season. Renewal of this contract for another season is optional. Factory-backing consists of the Full Season Supply Package, including all official tests. Unofficial tests excluded. Full tyre set prices for unofficial tests. All tyre compounds are specifically designed for the Alpina B6 GT3.

You can make alterations to your previous post on potential tyre suppliers, if necessary. Manufacturer recommendations will still guarantee your team fully functional compounds from the recommended supplier, as long as said supplier didn’t announce that they’re designing their compounds for a specific GT3 model.

Our new deadline is next Thursday, the 11th!

What I need from you until then is this:

Team Name: (your team’s name)
Tyre Supplier: (your preference)
Unofficial Tyre Test(s): (yes / no)

As mentioned before: No need to bother what package you want to order or in what intervals you’d like to order right now. That will come after all teams have chosen their tyre supplier and organized unofficial test(s), if still necessary.

Only problem is that the situation on the tyre market has changed. Both Dunlop and Michelin have decided to grant factory-backing to certain teams, including yours. I don't think either of them would agree to such a test at this point, considering that you could uncover vital data on the products of one supplier that the rival company could use to their advantage. Even if you hired an independent test driver, there would still be engineers from both tyre suppliers present during your test.

Aside from that, organizing such a test after Dunlop has just announced that they're willing to go the extra mile with your team could be interpreted in the way that you actually doubt their ability to produce competitive rubber.

May I ask why you decided to option for Yokohamas instead of Bridgestones? The Yokohamas will be specifically designed for the Alpina B6 GT3 this season, thus you would only struggle with them on a different GT model.

You can still buy from any tyre supplier on the list in the first post of this chapter, even those not granting any kind of bonus or backing. Just in case you misinterpreted my recent post as a limitation of available suppliers, which it isn't. :)

I just noticed something. I was supposed to send you this last post in the role of your Team Manager (Carmen Ziegler), but I accidentally sent it as my own words. Sorry for that.

You might not see a problem here, but it's essential for roleplaying to stick to certain characters when communicating with your players. And for these team-internal messages I wanted to use the Team Managers. Otherwise these messages can sound quite authoritarian when they come from the gamemaster him/herself, and it always breaks the fourth wall when we do that. It's similar to a parent or (worse) a teacher telling a child (you) what not to do, when in-game the message is meant as and supposed to sound like friendly advice from your trusted right-hand woman.

So, sorry again. I seem to need a bit more time to find into my roles... :)

Noworries. I would have taken the advice the same way and made the same decision.

In the realm of this fictional universe, I would say that the team considered the option of back-to-back tests, but ultimately decided against it before making public their contract decision.

Before we can move on to the unofficial tyre test(s), unless V8fan12 decides to cancel his at the last minute, there are a few more things you’ll need to do in order to finalize your tyre supply contract:

Team Contact

Currently, all tyre suppliers work with your Team Principals as their immediate contacts. This means that you yourself have to manage the entire tyre supply for this season. Should you want it that way, then there’s no need to change anything. But it is also possible to hand this task over to your Team Manager, if you’ve hired one.

By doing that, your Team Manager will be in charge of handling the supply in general, including cost management, managing your team’s tyre consumption, and placing orders accordingly. This can save those of you with little spare time on their hands a lot of work, and you can change this arrangement at any time, should you suddenly want to do it on your own after all and for whatever reasons.

Should you start out by managing the tyre supply on your own, but run into spare time trouble at a later stage of this season, you can also pass this task on to your Team Manager then, if you’ve hired one, and take over again once you have more spare time on your hands.

Don’t feel lazy by doing so. It’s part of a Team Manager’s job to manage the tyre supply, and due to her vast knowledge on different tyre suppliers and certain GT3 models, she is the perfect candidate to handle this important task. A lot of Team Managers in this series have also been working for other teams in the Women’s GT Junior Cup before, so they’re even familiar with some tyre compounds of this fictional universe!

Of course, should you wish to get helpful advice from your Team Manager on this matter, don’t hesitate to ask!

Supply Order

What would you like to order? Full Season Supply Package, 6-Plus-Test Package, or a supply package according to your own calculation? If you’d like to do that, just name the number of tyre sets you need, e.g. „12 sets slicks / 8 sets wets“.

If you’ve handed this task to your Team Manager, she will fill this out for you.

Supply Frequency

How often do you want to order? If you choose the Full Season Supply Package, then it’s „once (beginning of the season)“. The 6-Plus-Test Package works the same way, and when we reach the mid-season break, you can either order that package again „once (mid-season)“, or continue according to your own calculation, should you want to do that.

If you order according to your own or your Team Manager’s calculation, you can also order „race-by-race“. Or, of course, you can buy your full supply at the beginning of the season, just like the Full Season Supply Package. And you can even split it into two orders, just like the 6-Plus-Test Supply Package. Just remember that a race-by-race frequency is quite a tedious job, so please only try doing that if you’re absolutely certain you have enough free time on your hands!

If you’ve handed this task to your Team Manager, she will fill this out for you.

Price and Payment

„Price“ should be self-explanatory, I think. Payment is also something for you to consider. Some Team Principals like to pay everything at once, some race-by-race, and others at season’s end.

Paying everything right away has the advantage that you already know in advance how much of your budget will be left for the remainder of the season. Paying race-by-race can allow you to even out your budget with prize money in time for another payment. Paying everything at season’s end should only be chosen by the factory-backed outfits, because they don’t have to worry about most of their budget.

If you’ve handed this task to your Team Manager, she will fill this out for you.

Our new deadline is next Thursday, the 18th!

Just fill out this form until then and post it up:

Team Name: (your team’s name)
Team Contact: (should you want to change it)
Supply Order: (what you’d like to order)
Supply Frequency: (how often you’d like to order)

Important News

Okay, here's is the situation: The hard disk of my laptop gave up on me a few days ago. I'm writing this on one I've borrowed from my brother, who, computer genius that he is, tried to recover as many files as he possibly could, but so far the majority seems to be lost forever. That includes track data, car and tyre performance, around 80% of my driver files, all of my preparations for Junior Cup seasons 1 and 2, and many more.

I do have older copies of some of that stuff, but those are from 2015, and I have made significant adjustments to almost all the data ever since. Without all that, there is no way I can get this series off the ground as planned. I'm afraid I have no other choice than to put the Women's GT Masters and the new Women's GT Junior Cup on hold. I'm not cancelling them, because there's still the option of me re-researching the lost data from my books and the web. It just takes more time.

I understand that you're disappointed, but I actually do have an alternative for those of you willing to stick with me. There still is the WTCC, because all the data needed for that is stored on my old Win98 PC I use to run GPL on. The header templates and everything is also on a USB-Stick from which I upload it to GPRejects. I know that this is not what we were all building up to, but it's the next best thing I can offer right now, and I'm still eager to go racing with all of you, so please think this over at least once!

You can find the WTCC over in the Black Stig, if you're not following the series already. Link is in my signature below. Season 1 is finished, but Season 2 has just reached the mid-season break, and we could take over from there. While there are only 4 manufacturers involved in the WTCC, all of them field 5 cars, so each works fleet could be divided into 2 teams - one with 2, the other with 3 cars/drivers -, if more than four of you should want to make the jump. You could all keep your current characters and even your team's name, if you like to.

And while we should be following the fictional story I've written so far (possibly ignoring most of the mid-season break report for now), you will still have enough free choice to make important decisions right away. Most of your staff can also be brought over, if you like. While that'll take a little tweaking, I'm sure we can find a solution to this. I'm not sure if we should bother asking a moderator to move Season 2 of the WTCC here, so we might just as well finish that season in the Black Stig and then move over here with Season 3. Probably easier that way.

But, again, you decide whether you like to stick with me or not. The WTCC might not be what we all wanted, but I promise you to give it my all, no matter what series I'll run in the end. I'm really sorry I don't have any better news, and I know that some of you will probably shift their attention to other projects, but I will be very, very grateful for each and every single one of you who's willing to make the transition to the WTCC with me - at least until I can get the Women's GT Masters back on track...

Please get back to me once you've made your decision.
