Right, so I think it's time to move onto the next phase, which is chassis, engine and tyres. See the 2nd post for rules, and the spreadsheet on the 1st post for stats.
Please note that the existing contracts are already in place for 1999, thus the relevant teams do not need to sign in this section:
Penske, Ganassi, Patrick, Green: Bridgestone (tyres)
Rahal: Mercedes (engine)

Use this format for bidding:

Code: Select all

Team:
User:
Sell Chassis: (are you selling your previous chassis; Y/N)
Sell Engines: (are you selling your previous engines; Y/N)

Chassis:
Number of chassis:
Engine:
Number of engines:
Tyres:
Contract length: (max 2 years)

Penske and Eagle are eligible to design a new chassis, using the design tiers.

PacWest and Ganassi are still need to sign drivers.

Spreadsheet for ease of access

You will have 2 weeks to respond.

We will keep the 1998 Honda, even though it will cost us a big of PD cash fron Quick Nick, but what gives.

AAR can offer you an Eagle 997 chassis for $750k, and the 987 for the price on the spreadsheet, (I guess?).

Right, so the deadline is up. RedEyes504 and Pilot, I still haven't received a response from you since confirming your teams, so I shall send you private messages shortly asking you about your driver and CET choices, with a failure to do so resulting in me choosing them myself. For everyone else, the first test at Homestead will be run within the next few days, so if you can post your driver lineups for each of the three days, and your testing focus, that would be excellent! Follow this format:

Code: Select all

Team:
Drivers for Spring Testing Day #1: (you can nominate young/potential future drivers for trialing here to see how they perform)
Area of focus for Day 1: Qualifying Pace/Race Pace
Drivers for Spring Testing Day #2:

Bräck already has a race contract with Rahal, so you'll need to nominate another driver I'm afraid.

AAR confirms the sale of a newly built 997 chassis (chassis 997/3, presumably) to DDP Racing for $650k. If any other teams are interested in a 997, more can be built for the same price of $650k per chassis (a single 987 is also available for $40k)

Spring Testing Day 1 - Homestead-Miami Speedway

Image

1. Bruno Junqueira - Rahal Reynard-Honda - 28.157s (Qualifying Pace)
2. Christian Fittipaldi - Payton/Coyne Reynard-Honda - 28.705s (Qualifying Pace)
3. Adrián Fernández - Patrick Reynard-Ford - 29.216s (Race Pace)
4. Tony Stewart - DDP Eagle-Ford - 29.255s (Race Pace)
5. Gil de Ferran - Walker Reynard-Mercedes - 29.275s (Race Pace)
6. Patrick Carpentier - Team Green Reynard-Honda - 29.402s (Race Pace)
7. Hélio Castroneves - AAR Eagle-Honda - 29.691s (Race Pace)
8. Alex Zanardi - Ganassi Lola-Ford - 30.299s (Race Pace)
9. Mark Blundell - PacWest Swift-Mercedes - 30.444s (Race Pace)
10. Paul Tracy - Penske-Honda - 30.562s (Race Pace)
11. Oriol Servià - Bettenhausen Swift-Mercedes - 30.609s (Race Pace)
12. Bryan Herta - Forsythe Lola-Mercedes - 30.618s (Race Pace)
13. Jimmy Vasser - Newman/Haas Swift-Toyota - 31.129s (Race Pace)

The first day of testing in 1999 came along, and with a new season comes a new field. Bruno Junqueira, in his first drive in a Champcar, topped the timesheets for Rahal, although he was reported to be on Goodyear's qualifying tyres, which have proven to be extremely grippy. Christian Fittipaldi came 2nd, also on qualifying tyres, although he was 6 tenths off of Junqueira's time. Of those who were running race simulations, Adrián Fernández was quickest for Patrick, although Tony Stewart was only 4 hundredths of a second behind, which must surely give John Della Penna's team a cause for confidence. Hélio Castroneves struggled to get much grip out of the Goodyear race tyres, leaving him 7th. Newman/Haas were hampered by the heavily underpowered Toyota engine, and the Penske PC-28 was extremely sluggish, leaving them cause for concern, as well as Forsythe appearing to be hamstrung by the loss of the Reynard and the Honda. All in all, it seems to be shaping up for a very exciting season. Don't miss the rest of the Spring Testing report!

Spring Testing Day 2 - Homestead-Miami Speedway

Image

1. Michael Andretti - Patrick Reynard-Ford - 28.195s (Qualifying Pace)
2. Gil de Ferran - Walker Reynard-Mercedes - 28.244s (Qualifying Pace)
3. Memo Gidley - DDP Eagle-Ford - 28.746s (Qualifying Pace)
4. Ricardo Rosset - Team Green Reynard-Honda - 28.829s (Qualifying Pace)
5. Jimmy Vasser - Newman/Haas Swift-Toyota - 29.208s (Qualifying Pace)
6. Maurício Gugelmin - Payton/Coyne Reynard-Honda - 29.479s (Race Pace)
7. Gonzalo Rodriguez - AAR Eagle-Honda - 29.741s (Race Pace)
8. Oriol Servià - Bettenhausen Swift-Mercedes - 29.837s (Qualifying Pace)
9. Rubens Barrichello - Ganassi Lola-Ford - 29.907s (Qualifying Pace)
10. Bryan Herta - Forsythe Lola-Mercedes - 30.163s (Qualifying Pace)
11. Nick Heidfeld - Rahal Reynard-Honda - 30.213s (Race Pace)
12. Mark Blundell - PacWest Swift-Mercedes - 30.521s (Race Pace)
13. Al Unser Jr - Penske-Honda - 30.957s (Race Pace)

Day 2 of Spring Testing saw many teams opt to do a qualifying run. Michael Andretti would top the timesheets in his Patrick, with Gil De Ferran running a close 2nd. Memo Gidley got a solid 3rd place despite using a 1998 chassis in his 1st real run in a Champcar, with Ricardo Rosset managing an impressive 4th also in his first Champcar drive. Jimmy Vasser overcame the Toyota's power deficiencies to end up 5th, with Maurício Gugelmin 6th for Payton/Coyne. Rookie Gonzalo Rodriguez would also struggle to set a competitive time on the poor Goodyear race tyre for AAR, with Nick Heidfeld also struggling (worryingly for Rahal). Forsythe would make up a bit of ground but remain the last of the qualifying runners, and Penske's blunders would come to a new low with Al Unser Jr managing to post a time that puts him last. Stay tuned for the 3rd and final day of testing!

1. Gil de Ferran - Walker Reynard-Mercedes - 29.349s (Race Pace)
2. Michael Andretti - Patrick Reynard-Ford - 29.477s (Race Pace)
3. Ricardo Rosset - Team Green Reynard-Honda - 29.527s (Race Pace)
4. Memo Gidley - DDP Eagle-Ford - 29.566s (Race Pace)
5. Jason Watt - AAR Eagle-Honda - 29.695s (Race Pace)
6. Christian Fittipaldi - Payton/Coyne Reynard-Honda - 29.781s (Race Pace)
7. Robby Gordon - PacWest Swift-Mercedes - 29.920s (Qualifying Pace)
8. Paul Tracy - Penske-Honda - 30.042s (Qualifying Pace)
9. Rubens Barrichello - Ganassi Lola-Ford - 30.471s (Race Pace)
10. Greg Moore - Forsythe Lola-Mercedes - 30.520s (Race Pace)
11. Kenny Bräck - Rahal Reynard-Honda - 30.522s (Race Pace)
12. Stephane Sarrazin - Bettenhausen Swift-Mercedes - 30.565s (Race Pace)
13. Juan Pablo Montoya - Newman/Haas Swift-Toyota - 31.309s (Race Pace)

The final day saw almost every team do race runs, apart from Penske and PacWest, who did qualifying runs. Tracy's time only being good for 8th showing how atrocious the new PC-28 is, and among everyone, Gil de Ferran topped the timesheets for Walker, with Michael Andretti in 2nd. Ricardo Rosset performed even better to be 3rd, with Memo Gidley 4th in the old Eagle 987. Rookie Jason Watt was 5th in the new Eagle 997, and Christian Fittipaldi. Forsythe and Ganassi showed how handicapped they were by the Lola chassis, and Newman/Haas were again nearly a second away from the next placed car. With the conclusion of Spring Testing, join us for the first season, also here at the Homestead-Miami Speedway!

Team Rahal would like to buy a new Reynard 99i chassis and a new Honda HRK engine.

We would also like to approach "super-sub" Roberto Moreno.

Honda Japanese Grand Prix Qualifying
Honda Japanese Grand Prix Race (Fastest Lap: Tony Stewart, DDP - 1:46.260)

A few things to note: 1st: this was a very wet race, so the abnormal results should be explained by that.

2nd: I'm going to be running this as a quicksim for the rest of the season, as I simply prefer that format (it's easier to go through a season, it's less grinding and it provides a more rapid idea of where your team is pace-wise/where the championship is at). As a consequence, the races will be coming through a lot more quickly, though the vehicle damages part of the game will be removed, as I will likely be simulating several races at once, so that will simply not be possible to do anymore.

3rd: From now on, you may apply for driver changes by sending me a message which details why you think a driver replacement is sensible. If approved, you will be handed a list of at least two drivers from which you may pick the replacement.

You may apply for driver changes by sending me a message which details why you think a driver replacement is sensible. If approved, you will be handed a list of at least two drivers from which you may pick the replacement.

DDP Racing would like to purchase a second Eagle 997 for Memo Gidley to run for the rest of the season. The existing 987 will become a rolling spare for the team

That's fine with me- AAR will build another 997 and sell it to DDP for the usual fee. We would also like to clarify our switch from Goodyear to Firestone tyres, which (I believe) was made after Suzuka.

Apologies for being off task recently.

Unless the repairs have been done, Penske will repair the damage of Unser's Car that was done in Miami.

Penske will never skip any repair costs required ;)

You may buy a new chassis/new engine/new tyres by stating your choice, and by checking both whether it is in stock and that you have the money for it. If you pass all of those criteria, you may complete your desired switch.

Well, that was a crap run of results for Gil de Ferran. Is there any way we can improve reliability/decrease mechanic error?

No upgrades per se, but you can buy a new engine, such as a Honda or a Ford, for an improvement over your current Mercedes unit.

In the first post, for engine reliability, are the bigger numbers more or less reliability?

The larger the number, the less reliable the engine is.
