Seeing as all teams except Osella have posted their bids, I shall host the RNG earlier than the deadline (I might do it today or tomorrow, I'm not quite sure). If Osella could get their bids in ASAP, that would be great.

Suppliers, gearboxes, politics and developmental direction

Suppliers
An excerpt from the rulebook:
The Rules wrote:- There are three types of supplier: Fuel, Gearbox and Parts. Each supplier brings benefits to the team.
- Each team must sign a tyre supplier, a gearbox supplier and a fuel supplier. Parts suppliers are optional.
- The amount of contracts available for a supplier is listed.
- The price listed is paid once to secure the supplier, and once to purchase the upgrade.
- Supplier upgrades come at random times, and an RNG will be run to determine the effectiveness of the upgrade.
- If more offers than number of contracts are received, an RNG will be run.
- Pay attention to the Brand Image.

And speaking of gearboxes, let's move on to the next phase:

Gearboxes

- You can outsource your gearbox manufacturing to a third party supplier (Hewland, Weismann) or
you can manufacture your own gearbox in-house.
- Designing a gearbox works like chassis design: you buy a tier, the different areas (weight, shift time and CFP) are RNGed and the end result gets added onto your car.
- The advantage to this is that you can upgrade your gearbox throughout the season using your token allowance, to either lower the shift time, reduce the weight or make it more reliable.
- If you make your gearboxes in-house then you are responsible for carrying out repairs on it should one of your cars retire from a race with a gearbox problem. If you outsource your gearbox then the repairs will be carried out by the manufacturer without extra charge.

Politics

- There is a political element to this series, which will raise it's head at a later point in time (hint: look at the season calendar at Race 16 if you're really interested).
- For now though, all you need to do is choose to align yourself to either FISA or FOCA.
- The benefits of choosing each are as follows:
- If you choose FISA, then you get a 20% increase on FISA end-of-race and end-of-season prize money.
- If you choose FOCA, then you get a 50% increase on FOCA end-of-race and end-of-season TV money.
- In return, you are expected to vote with your organisation's standing point for all issues.
- If you do not for one-off occasions, you will have your prize money/TV money rescinded for that race.
- If you consistently vote against your affiliated organisations, your membership will be rescinded and you will not be able to rejoin the organisation until the beginning of 1988.

The way the spreadsheet has the numbers formatted is like this: "£100,000.00", which is actually £100,000. So all numbers in the gearbox section are in thousands. I've changed the number format however so there is less confusion.

The design cost is for both units (say £100,000 for a Tier A) and you then have to pay an extra £50,000 per unit to make the gearboxes (so £100,000 to make gearboxes for a 2 car team).

The race... was red-flagged due to a high number of accidents, although mercifully only 3 accidents had damage. Special mention goes to Nigel Mansell who was dominating the race from pole until he had a suspension problem which caused him to retire.

You may start to spend your development tokens (the more you spend the bigger the improvement will be) on the following areas:

Design of new car
At any point before the first race of the next season, you may begin developing your new car. Once the first race of the next season begins, this new car becomes your current car, and the cycle repeats. Utilise this development token opportunity continuously to improve the final quality of your new car; the more times you do it, the better you car for next year will be. For next year's car, you need not mention, nor cannot focus on, specific areas - it is a randomised process.

Development of current car
You may choose an area of focus for testing and development of your current car, which will result in an appropriate improvement. Possible directions of current car development:
    Increase downforce
    Reduce drag
    Increase mechanical grip
    Improve Handling
    Reduce weight
    Increase reliability

Engine Development
You may only do this if you are a works or semi-works team. You also have an allotted amount of tokens for development, which you may spend on developing your engine in the specified developmental direction you specified before the first race. Works teams may change the developmental direction of the engine when they please; semi-works teams have no say.

As of now, Thackwell takes chassis 1 or 3 (the one which isn't used by Palmer at the moment), 2 will be a spare car.

(btw, the Team Assets sheet has three chassis and two everything else so it shows McLaren using Hart and Ferrari engines etc.)

The chassis and engine lists aren't laid out together, because the design tiers included the cost for a spare car, and the engine contract does not, so the chassis, engine and gearbox lists are all separate from one another.

A post-race inspection of the track surface at the Jacarepagua Circuit following the chaotic Brazilian Grand Prix, which was red-flagged due to the number of accidents at the 'Box' corner, showed that the track surface there was 'literally in pieces'. Several drivers had complained to FISA on Friday, but Jean-Marie Balestre had dismissed these claims, and FOCA boss Bernie Ecclestone was unwilling to have to send the crowd of 70,000 home fans away and incur the huge revenue losses that would have happened. Instead the race went on and was an utter farce, with constant crashing, until the organizers had had enough and called the red flag. Whilst some, such as Zakspeed boss Erich Zakowski, were benefiting hugely from this chaos, the majority of teams were being affected by the poor track surface, and the backlash has been huge, with F1 receiving large negative publicity and is expected to incur large revenue losses for the foreseeable future, and with the very future of the Brazilian Grand Prix in doubt, Formula One is gripped in a crisis to come.


Effect: 50% reduction in FOCA TV money for the rest of the season, 20% reduction for the end of season TV money and for the whole of 1987, 10% reduction in 1987 end of season TV money.
60% reduction for the Brazilian Grand Prix in 1987, a 40% reduction for the 1988 event, and a 20% reduction for the 1989 event.

Arrows will repair Rosberg's chassis, and spend two development tokens, one on improving Handling, and the other on developing our Alfa engine (as I am convinced it will blow up on us in it's current state)

Just a quick thing: works and semi-works teams can sell their engine upgrades to semi-works and customer teams with the same engines for a price of their choosing (as long as it is FAIR).

McLaren will spend two tokens on next year's car, as well as two tokens on reducing weight. TAG/Porsche will also spend three tokens on engine upgrades.
