REECCS: The Revival [again]

Post by MinardiFan95 »

The most inconsistent series organiser in the history of the PMMF returns with promises of yet another revival of the series featuring nothing but the finest examples of communist state automotive relics.

All of the vehicles from the previous series were found slowly decaying in a field, except for the Trabants as the Duraplast bodies will outlast humanity as we know it (even the faded pink one with the vague outlines of Cillit Bang decals from its former life). Someone nicked all of the engines that had previously been swapped out of various VW and Fiat products, though someone who had a barn full of interesting flowerpots came to the rescue with enough engines to power the entire grid for at least half a lap.

Will this series actually happen this time? Who knows, it’s not like MinardiFan posts up new series’ in the PMMF that never go ahead like the last two iterations of REECCS, the Touring Car World Series and that demolition derby thing.

The cars:
  • Vaz (Lada) 2101
  • Skoda 110R Coupe
  • Trabant 601
  • Polski-Fiat 126p
  • Dacia 1310
  • Wartburg 353w
  • Moskvich 2140
Skin templates are available here - https://imgur.com/a/n9f9BDK

The calendar:
Every track will be selected from the massive database of rFactor tracks using the almighty based RNG… didn’t steal this idea from WaffleCat’s excellent Random Racing League at all, no sir. If you have any track suggestions, feel free to request them and I'll pop them in the list of tracks for the RNG.

The points:
Don’t really matter, though the post-race awards will most likely return.

TV coverage:
There may be a live stream, presented in glorious PotatoVision at 480p with a 380kbps bitrate, otherwise the usual badly edited highlights will return.

Entry Form:
Driver:
Car:
Number: [optional]
Livery:

For this series you can submit as many possible entries as you like, however only the 2 or 3 best entries from each user will be selected based on my (extremely vague) criteria as shown below.

Entries I’d like to see:
  • Anything based on the history of the F1/GP Rejects forum, as the 10th anniversary is not too far away.
  • Any driver who had/has an important role throughout the ASMF canon
  • Returning drivers from previous REECCS series
  • Tribute liveries to reject teams and drivers
  • Drivers with ridiculously silly names (but not too long since rFactor has a character limit for names)
  • Anything that makes use of a bad pun
  • Anyone who supplies a livery with their entry – this will save me from making all the skins and losing all motivation to run the series in the process.
  • Memes.

Entries I don’t want to see:
  • Generic new drivers with no backstory – there’s plenty of F4 series in the ASMF if you want to enter a driver like that.

Current confirmed entries:
Gio Van Dycke - Trabant #13
Kim Jong Sung - Lada #31
Takumi Fujiwara - Polski-Fiat #1
Douglas Mann - Dacia #1310
Pippa Mann - Skoda #69
Ben Fleet - Moskvich #2140
James James Davies - Moskvich #1
Alan Key - Trabant #911
Nikolai Nurmovich - Lada #66

Zbynek Benes - Skoda #68
Maxim Simonov - Lada #53
Hans Mielke - Trabant #61
Alan Shoes Trader - Lada #09
Dave Simpson - Dacia #29
Freiherr Wankshafticus Graf Ersatz Ersatz Lothar von Westphalia Kartoffelsalat mit Iodine Hannibal Drippingsniffle-Mephistopheles (Wankshafticus von Drippingsniffle) - Trabant #1871
Alexei Yuri Gagarin Siege of Stalingrad Glorious Five Year Plan Sputnik Tractor Moscow Dynamo Back Four Balowski ('Sputnik' Balowski) - Moskvich #82

Francesca Scaramanga - Polski-Fiat #74

This one is pretty obvious:
Driver: Gio Van Dycke
Car: Trabant 601 (Belgium)
Number: 13
Livery: Cillit Bang

And the great commie team from China, Great Leap Backward also returns
Driver: Kim Jong Sung (North Korea)
Car: Vaz (Lada) 2101
Number: 31
Livery: Blue-Yellow livery. Sheriff (state owned Transnistrian company), Aral (fuel company), Banco De Venezuela, Minor sponsors Belshina tyres and Ryugyong hotel.

Not sure if real fictional drivers are allowed, but we need memes and *eurobeat intensifies*, if not allowed, i'll open this seat for any interested Japanese driver.
Driver: Takumi Fujiwara
Car: Polski Fiat 126 B
Number: 1
Livery: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Initial_D ... 0_GT_(AE86).jpg (Fujiwara Tofu shop and Akina Race Stars)
I don't know what i want and i want it now!

Driver: Douglas Mann
Car: Dacia 1310
Number: 1310
Livery: red all over with the Manx triskelion on the bonnet, roof and doors

Driver: Pippa Mann
Car: Wartburg 353w
Number: 69
Livery: pink. Not necessarily any sponsors. Just pink.

Driver: Ben Fleet
Car: Moskvich 2140
Number: 2140
Livery: The other two have red and pink, so let this car be... papaya orange!

Track suggestions that I would like to see: Brands Hatch Indy, Martinsville, Norisring, Rockingham oval (the UK one, not the USA one). And Nurburgring and/or Manx TT, to see if a single lap of these tracks were possible...

You want an important driver in canon? You got 'im.

Driver: James James Davies
Car: They're all so shite he doesn't care, so I just ran an RNG and came up with the Moskvich
Number: 1. He'll fight Takumi Fujiwara for it if need be. (He'll also lose, but he doesn't know that yet)
Livery: Again, this is just an excuse for the great JJD to wail on some losers so he doesn't care. Just do a scribble livery like one of these bad boys.

If anyone has any meme driver requests from ARST/IPC they need me to toss in, lemme know.

Is Maple Valley Raceway available? If so I’ll suggest that

Nikolai Nurmovich would like to make a return in his Lada. I'll do a proper entry when I get back home, but hopefully this is enough to reserve a spot.

I will reserve a spot. How many cars, depends on my creativity. At least 3 guaranteed though.

Here are my entries, liveries included. I'll make more if we need more entries.

Driver: Lester MacPhail
Car: Skoda 110R Coupe
Number: 1922
Livery: Kiss me, I'm Irish!

Driver: Francesca Scaramanga
Car: Polski-Fiat 126p
Number: 74
Livery: The closest I can get to gold...

(Back with a vengeance)
Driver: Edward McWilliams
Car: Trabant 601
Number: 56 (Same as in ARST)
Livery: LINK

Also, can we please make our own liveries? It'd make it easier and quicker to get this series up and running if people actually made liveries for this :(

Also, Figure 8 crossover course please?

That'd be on Biscotti to enter Voeckler, not me ;)

I'll toss in an entry for everyone's favourite Gregg's patron though...

After 6 years and a few false starts, REECCS finally makes it's triumphant return for it's third season. Gone are the old, slow, reliable engines, replaced with the reject pièce de résistance that is the Life W12 unit (don't ask how we fitted that into a Polski-Fiat 126).

Based RNG has been tasked with selecting the circuits for this season, so lets see where it takes us for Round 1:
Image

Rather appropriately, the RNG has selected a rather obscure track - the Tony Rust Racing Circuit, which is Namibia's only permanent race circuit. The 2.6km, 5 corner layout should be a good test for the new generation of REECCS cars; the heavy braking zone into turn 1 will really test out the stopping power and fade of the non-modified brakes.

One last thing before we get onto the race, there's a completely stock Trabant entered as a control entry - if anyone gets beaten by it without retiring they'll lose 5 points, plus an additional point for every lap they are down

Without any further ado, here are the highlights from round 1.

Results: (Ignore the qualifying results, since rFactor decided not to use them for some reason)
https://simresults.net/190408-6fi

Awards:
  • Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race: Alan Key (seriously, a Trabant on a REECCS podium?!) +5pts
  • First roll: Alan Key +2pts
  • First retirement: Alan Shoes Trader (decided to use Andrea Moda shoes instead of brake shoes on his Lada) +2pts
  • Safari tour guide: Edward McWilliams (spent more time exploring the surrounding wilderness than he did on track) -2pts
  • Deja vu: Takumi Fujiwara (he'd just spun in this place before - three spins in turn 1, to be precise) -2pts
  • Sebastian Vettel International Sign of Choking Award: Francesca Scaramanga & Lester MacPhail (both spun out of the lead) -2pts
  • The Jean-Louis Schlesser Tribute Award: Takumi Fujiwara (for taking out race leader MacPhail with a few laps to go) +2pts
  • Greggs Roll of the Race: Geoff Donnelly (had the sudden urge to find the nearest Greggs store midway through the race, gave up after a minute or so searching and just settled for a pack of A. Stooge's Topkek instead) +5pts
  • The Nick Heidfeld Slightly Boring Award: Ben Fleet (plodded around uneventfully to a 9th place) -5pts
  • The Steven Bradbury Award: Zbynek Benes +5pts
  • Fastest Lap: Francesca Scaramanga +1pt
  • The "I got beaten by the stock Trabant" award: Edward McWilliams and Vitaly Stepanenko -5pts

Standings after round 1.

I 100% approve of the message on the back of JJD's car.

An obviously extremely wasted James James Davies wrote:Yeah... you morons got nothin fer me... *takes drink* *burps* anyway... obviously I won even with that piece o' shite hunk o' crap you Russkies call a car.. cuz ya see, I got a plan! *taps head* Can't lose if I make everyone read that admission of losership! Hahaha! Still got it...

A race win. Considering what series this is, I don't know whether to be happy or not.

At least Trabant was as reliable as expected.
