Peugeot will be looking to throw some cash towards R&D when we first get the chance to see if we can close that gap between ourselves & the top teams. Looking forward to R2.

What was the reason for Wilson withdrawing with one lap remaining by the way?

From what I saw Justin was tootling at the back of the field for the entirety of the race, so Dynamics instead opted to call him in.

IIDOTW: Justin Wilson. A super consistent weekend for the lanky Brit, even coming close to podiums in the final two races. One to watch?
Honourable Mention: Darren Turner. A superb first two races in mediocre machinery, this was a performance worth a proper shout-out.
ROTW: John Cleland. Despite the relatively high rate of attrition, Cleland failed to nab a single point while his rookie teammate managed one. Granted the Vauxhall's shite, but John isn't really doing himself any favours here.

great job from Gabi scoring alfa's first win in only our second round since we came back from our hiatus! and man, fabrizio is so unlucky...the team also couldn't capitalise on our race 1 win. we need to be more consistent than that.

also, some pretty good results for Brookes motorsports! ralphie got to show more of his talent!

what a fantastic drive by Gabi, making up for his poor qualifying by salvaging 2 points in race 1! he was unlucky with that colision with radisich on race 2, but fabrizio saved us woth his 6th place finish, while race 3 was almost perfect, with fabrizio scoring a much-deserved first BTCC win and Gabi almost making it a 1-2 for alfa!

however, once again, issues with consistency plagued us. thankfully, we are only one or two wins away from championship leader rydell, so let's rack up the wins at the next round.

it was also a pretty good week-end for Brookes (at least, to their standards...). ralphie and the boss have good chemistry, and they are starting to finish races more often. ralphie, however, won't be available at the next round, as it clashes with a formula Nippon race. enter the super sub, Mark Blair (again, according to their standards...)!

Ideally we’d be a little closer to the top in the standings right now but some good performances overall in the last few rounds, Neal & Wilson have been really impressive in the independent Dynamic cars.

We’ll definitely be looking at how we can improve the cars at the next opportunity.

DNF) #77 Matt Neal -Lap 1 (Colision)
DNF) #14 Jason Plato -Lap 1 (Colision)
DNF) #7 Yvan Muller -Lap 1 (Colision)
Note: Matt Neal was t-boned in a massive shunt in which Gabrielle Tarquini and Frank Biela made contact coming out of Copse, sending the Italian into the gravel and breaking Biela's right-front wheel, sending him back onto the circuit with nowhere to go, with team-mate Muller stuffing his front-end into Biela's rear bumper, which caused Neal to do likewise with the Frenchman, with Plato unsighted in the kerfuffle and broadsiding Neal's Nissan on the left-hand side.
The RNG reads......11. Neal suffered a broken arm and a bruised pelvis in the pileup and as a result will have to miss two rounds. That means Team Dynamics will have to nominate a reserve driver.

Also: There are 2 two token opportunities available before the following round.
Just to reiterate a tad:
-Each token costs £55,000.
-You may opt to spend these tokens on any of the three performance areas: Reliability, Acceleration and Technicality on this year's car, or do likewise for next year's car.
-You may also opt to forgo one or both of your token opportunities to save up cash.

Congratulations to Justin for his first podium! And we wish for a speedy recovery for Matt... Tiff Needell will substitute for the next two rounds.

And please put two tokens on Acceleration for the factory Nissans.

alfa corse invests 2 tokens in acceleration and technicality. our inconsistency is becoming an issue, and we need to remedy it immediately.

Brookes motorsports will invest our two tokens in reliability and acceleration. time to start moving out of the back and into the midfield. also, good job by Mark Blair, he was pretty good. the boss might even think about giving his seat to him if he keeps up with those good performances in his next appearance...

but now, welcome back, Ralph firman!

Very pleased with Aiello's driving last weekend. With an eye on pushing our way further up the grid Peugeot will invest tokens in both technicality & acceleration.

I use one token for acceleration of this year's car and one token on technicality of next year's car.

Vauxhall will install one Technicality upgrade for our '98 shitbox and the other on Acceleration for next year's hopefully-not-a-shitbox. DC Cook will do the same as well, since has proven that Darren can wring some solid results out of the machinery he has to deal with, while Paula is slowly but surely improving with her eagerness helping her, even if her results don't say otherwise.

Donington Park (National): Round 5
The BTCC descended on Donington once more, this time for proper race time and with the championship well and truly descending into a fight between Mansell, Rydell and Menu. However in a bid to keep up several teams introduced a raft of upgrades, Renault's being the most distinctive of the lot, including a modified rear spoiler and along with it something that would be quickly known among the paddock as the 'mass damper', a round plate put in a cylinder, centered by two springs that giving the plate vertical movement. The cylinder was part of the chassis and formed a rigid part of the car, in the process boosting smoothness and grip through corners. Apart from that, another change at Renault was the arrival of Oliver Gavin, deputising for Frank Biela as Audi called him up for testing of their R8 Le Mans machine. Tiff Needell subbed for Matt Neal after the latter's injuries sustained at Silverstone, while Ralph Firman was back in the cockpit as Brookes too introduced upgrades in a bid to escape the ignominy of being the only team yet to score points.

IIDOTW: Alain Menu- Had a strong consistent weekend bagging a string of crucial points finishes, doing what is very much expected of a reigning champion.
Honourable Mention: Paula Cook (Race 2) -Granted she managed to cause the world's biggest traffic jam while doing it, but her 10th place finish alone is nothing to be sniffed at.
ROTW: Lee Brookes -Managed to stuff his Honda into the rear of Tiff Needell at relatively low speed, and spun off at Redgate on the fooormation lap no less. Clear ROTW by some stretch.

Star performance from Alain this weekend, into the championship lead for both driver and team! Keep this performance up and we should be able to hold off the other drivers around the mark but you can never count out some of the best touring car drivers like Rydell, Tarquini or a Formula One World Champion like Mansell.

Can’t wait to see our Top Gear special with Tiff! Think we got some great shots from the weekend.

Kox under fire?

Sources down at Peugeot suggest that Peter Kox, former BMW BTCC and GT racer, could be out of the #10 Esso Ultron Team Peugeot as soon as the following round at Oulton Park which is a week away, Autosport speculates.

Having impressed with his performances in '96 subbing for BMW, Kox has managed to be hugely consistent in finishing races but unfortunately has nabbed a paltry 7 points in five rounds, while his rookie teammate 1997 STW champ Laurent Aiello has rose to the occasion, sitting in 6th in the standings including a slew of podiums and Top 6s with many marking him out as a future title contender.

Little else is known but Autosport understands should the Dutchman be dropped, there are a number of candidates likely to take his seat, including John Bintcliffe, Nissan tester Anthony Reid, Patrick Watts and Aussie Neil Crompton, who raced for Peugeot in the Bathurst 1000 last year.

With sources linking Anthony Reid amongst others to the #10 Esso Ultron Team Peugeot 406 as soon as the following round at Oulton Park which is a week away, Nissan have said that “they would not get in way” of a potential return to the series for the Scottish driver.

After a solid first season in '97 in the second factory car Reid was demoted to a testing role after the Japanese manufacturer secured the signature of reigning champion Alain Menu from Renault. The Scotsman has been cutting his teeth in the STW for Team Rosberg for the past few rounds alongside Roland Asch but a move home is the goal if a drive is to come up.

Autosport understands that the shortlist has a number of candidates likely to take compete for the seat, including John Bintcliffe, who has been working on putting funding together for his own team and Aussie Neil Crompton, who raced for Peugeot in the Bathurst 1000 last year. Patrick Watts is also in consideration but is said to be an outsider after splitting with the team last season over internal politics.

Peugeot would be more than happy to have Bintcliffe in the fold. We offered him a seat ahead of the season but the RNG Gods seemingly decided that it was time for him to retire. If Johnny B is considering a comeback, a deal is waiting for him.

Autosport wrote:Alfa Romeo willing to supply Bintcliffe's upcoming team

Alfa Corse's team director Marco Alessandro belcuore has recently announced that Alfa is willing to partner up with John Bintcliffe's future team should they join the BTCC in the near future. the recently retired British driver, who has been linked with a return to the BTCC as a replacement for the underperforming Peter kox at Peugeot, has been gathering funds and sponsors to create his own BTCC outfit for a possible 1999 entry, and Alfa has generously offered bintcliffe the opportunity to supply his team with two Alfa 156s.

"With our new 156 becoming a big success so far in our return to the BTCC, the board at Alfa were discussing the possibility of following in Honda and nissan's footsteps in offering support for privateers." belcuore was quoted saying. "Signore bintcliffe has been working very hard to accumulate the necessary resources to compete in next year's championship with his own team, And we know that privateers are the heart and soul of touring car racing, so it is only natural to help people in need, especially those who don't have the same resources as us or the other works teams."

negotiations between bintcliffe and Alfa are set to begin sometime during early summer.
