Mid-season madness, part one:

Ralf Schumacher receives an offer from Arrows. Having already been paid his retainer for the season, Arrows will buy him out of his Stewart seat for £1.5M.

1-50: Leaves for pastures new, joins de la Rosa at the team.
51-100: Stays and tries to make it work at Stewart

33! Ralf jumps ship and signs up with Arrows for the remainder of '98!

Pedro Lamy now has a clear shot at the Stewart seat. However, Dome has enquired about his services - and will drop Fontana to take him. However, Wakisaka's confirmed seat for the Japanese GP means Lamy will miss a round.

1-75: Takes the Stewart drive
76-100: Takes the Dome drive, sans Suzuka

46! Lamy joins Rubens Barrichello at Stewart for the rest of 1998.

You may wish to make changes to your testing line-ups in light of this - budgets have been updated.

TWR Arrows would like to welcome Ralf Schumacher to the team, and we hope to build a long, successful relationship with him. For his first official duties, he'll be replacing Tom Coronel at the upcoming test, alongside MAx Wilson

I too am unsure what our budget is looking like, but I'd like to throw $1 million towards testing to try & sort out these engine issues.

Autosport wrote:Badoer to Stewart for 1999?

There is speculation that Luca Badoer, Ferrari's test driver, is in the running for a seat at Stewart Grand Prix for 1999. When asked about the potential switch Jackie Stewart commented, "It will depend on a great many factors. Luca is a fast driver in lower divisions so of course we would take a look at him. The off season is still a great way off, so it's not good to spend time speculating while the season is in full swing."

Rumors of Stewart asking for Ferrari engines for 1999 feed into the question; the team may be trying to negotiate an engine switch, as signing Badoer would give them favor with the Prancing Horses.

Qualifying

Racing Gazette wrote:Moore closes in on title fight with Germany win

Greg Moore grabbed the lead at the German Grand Prix from McLaren team-mate Dario Franchitti to get within one point of championship leader Giancarlo Fisichella.

Although polesitter Franchitti began the race well and converted his pole into an early lead, Moore sat within his team-mate's slipstream within the early laps and made his move with a strong draft into the Clark chicane on lap 8 and set about building a buffer.

Franchitti attempted to reclaim the lead, but was unable to eat into Moore's lead and had to settle for second in a race that McLaren dominated - both cars lapping the rest of the field.

The race proved attritional, taking Michael Schumacher out of the equation with electrical woes to concede third place to Ferrari stablemate Fisichella.

A Bola wrote:Lamy distraught after losing points run

Stewart's Pedro Lamy was disheartened after a late engine failure snatched away his chances of earning his first points for the team after replacing the out-going Ralf Schumacher.

Lamy was running in fifth before his Ford engine cried enough with five laps to spare, ending the Portuguese driver's hopes of claiming two points on his F1 return.

His retirement late into race allowed Dome to claim its first point in F1, as Mika Salo assumed sixth place.
