1998 F1 Management Series - SEASON COMPLETE

Post by Ataxia »

Folks, it's back. Although it was a little-remembered series that died about five years ago, the current situation means I've got some time to run a series like this all again. We ended in mid-'98 last time out, but this time I'll start from scratch.

At the moment, all you need to do is pick a team - first come, first served, naturally - and I'll thrash out details later.

Williams - Kinnikuniverse
Ferrari - CarloSpace
Benetton - peteroli34
McLaren - Salamander
Jordan - Shawn040217
Prost - Miguel98
Sauber - Gertrand Bachot
Arrows - Wizzie
Stewart - CaptainGetz
Tyrrell - TCBY
Minardi - Aislabie
Lola - Simtek
Dome - Dom

Reserve List:
Spooder918

I will try Stewart please.

Will this be a continuation of the previous series, albeit resetting 1998? Or is this from scratch?

All teams are occupied - Gertrand, you're first reserve.

Next up, here's all the stuff:

THE BIG SPREADSHEET

Drivers
- You need to sign a 1st driver, 2nd driver and test driver.
- You may bid at the base value as a minimum, but increasing your bid increases your chances
- Bid for three drivers per seat, in order of preference
- Pay-drivers will provide the amount of money shown in race seats, and half of that in a test seat.

Engines
- You need an engine supplier to power your car.
- As with drivers, you may bid at the base value as a minimum, but increased bid = increased chances.
- Bid for three, although those bidding for engines marked as first options only need to bid for that engine.
- Ferrari automatically gets its own engine

Tyres
Pick either Goodyear or Bridgestone at no extra charge

Testing
Testing will be an option throughout the year, with a yet-to-be-decided number of in-season tests.
Each costs: £500k for light running, £750k for medium running, and £1m for heavy running. Spending more increases your chances of making performance improvements.
The quality of your test driver will also depend on the gains you make.
You don't need to worry about this now, but you may wish to save some money aside.

Option 2:

Team: Jordan Racing

Seat 1 ( The Steady Hands Seat)
Option A: Alexander Wurz (AUT) £4,730,000(We've witnessed his superb subbing performances at Benetton, and we reckon his testing prowess and his undoubted talent will help us to establish a strong base over the next couple of years.
Option B: Alessandro Zanardi (ITA) £4,000,000 (Having seen his successful CART exploits, we believe Alex can do great things for us here. Should our crappy car render him unable to perform any donuts this year, we've arranged a deal with Krispy Kreme just in case.)
Option C: Mika Salo (FIN) £4,150,000

Seat 2 (Seat of Hotshots)
Option A: Greg Moore (CAN) £3,900,000 (Sure, we might not be able to give Greg the salary or equipment that he deserves, but we can promise him a solid, friendly teammate he can work well with, as well as a wide-arse array of freedom that other teams won't have anywhere else, be it his overalls, helmet, the red gloves or his PR preferences.)
Option B: Tom Kristensen (DEN) £3,650,000 (His attempts at breaking into CART didn't go too well, but we've seen his performances in F3000 with average machinery, and they're brilliant, which means he would be a great fit for taking our team to the top.)
Option C: Pedro Diniz (BRA)-Base Value

Test Driver Seat
1) Tora Takagi (JPN) -Base Value
2) Jorg Muller (GER) -£1,150,000
3) Max Wilson(BRA) -Base Value

As for engines:
1) Mugen Honda-£15,400,000
2) Peugeot -£15,100,000
3) Ford JD -£10,000,000
Oh and we'll go for Goodyear rubber.

Edit: Swapped Zanardi and Wurz

Rather than wait, let's get going - starting with engine bids:

Ferrari 046
Sauber (100%)
(this isn't XCOM, I don't need to roll this)

Mercedes
McLaren (100%)

Ford VJ
Stewart (100%)

Mugen-Honda (x2)
Williams / £17m (25%) / 1-25
Dome / £15m (15%) / 26-40
Jordan / £15.4m (18%) / 41-58
Prost / £20m (24%) / 59-82
Benetton / £15m (18%) / 82-100

26 and 71! Dome, against all the odds, pick up Mugen engines alongside Prost!

Mecachrome (x2)
Williams / £15m (27%) / 1-27
Tyrrell / £15m (14%) / 28-41
Arrows / £16.5m (19%) / 42-60
Benetton / £15m (27%) / 61-87
Lola / £15m (13%) / 88-100

63 and 7, that's Williams and Benetton reprising their real-life roles.

Peugeot (x2)
Tyrrell / £14m (20%) / 1-20
Arrows / £15.5m (30%) / 21-50
Jordan / £15.1m (30%) / 51-80
Lola / £14m (20%) / 81-100

55 and 7, that's Jordan and Tyrrell!

TWR
Arrows / £9m (100%)

Ford JD

Lola, Minardi / £10m (100%)

Driver bids to come.
