2006 Global Touring Car Championship - Fictional Universe

Post by ShaneEyoho »

Hello everyone! I've been thinking about this for a while and finally I feel confident enough to bring you the idea. Welcome to my custom Global Touring Car Championship "universe" I guess you could call it as the
aim of this universe is to make a touring car championship like no other and also try and put the championship on the map from nothing pretty much as we look to rival the WTCC in the future as we possibly expand out of Britain during future seasons.

But why does this new Touring Car championship want to become global all of a sudden? Well here is the backstory of this universe:
The year is 2006 and a former British sidecar/grasstrack driver called Reg Blackbourn has retired from racing and now runs a local bike race called "The Lincolnshire Poacher" which he has helped run and also driven in for years, however he has an idea one day and decides to expand his management skills from dirt bikes to cars (a very big step) after several months of planning he decides that he will jump on the touring car bandwagon and run his own touring car championship after being inspired by the BTCC as he likes the competitiveness of the series (the WTCC had also been recently established in 2005) also his nearest major city of Lincoln had alot of car dealerships, Blackbourn then went to a local motorsport club and with the help of some promoters as well
as several BTCC members and organizers setup the GTCC (Global Touring Car Championship) which was a "farce" in his own words, after getting some cash injections from several tycoons and interested sponsors - The GTCC was born.

And now you know the story lets get into the rules and as a general disclaimer I plan to make this universe very interactive so it means the teams/manufacturers will get a say in new rules/regulations among other things.

Teams will also get a say in what main sponsor they have for a season.

The scorinator which I'll be using (Racing Scorinator V2.3 by the way) supports up to 30 cars, so the privateers will be better represented in this series as touring car racing is very close. New manufacturers can come and join too at anytime during pre-season.

Anyway, onto the rules/regulations for the 2006 season (season 1.)
- You can manage up to two teams if you wish, though if you do one has to be a Works Team and the other a Privateer Team.
- Real life teams can be used (eg: Toyota Gazoo Racing.)
- Each works team must be running two cars at a minimum.
- A privateer team can run one OR two cars.
- Any car used in any 2006 Touring Car series can be used.
- Any real life road cars that would be suitable for touring cars can be raced if you want to start a "Path to Glory" type campaign in this universe.
- Works Teams will have a set starting budget of £3,000,000 while Privateer Teams will have a starting budget of £1,800,000 however this could change over the seasons should teams request it.
- Prize money will be given out based on total points accumulated from each team from the previous season (this rule only applies from the 2nd season onwards which will be 2007.)
- The scorinator im using allows for development and car performance changes so there will be three areas of development: Reliability, Aerodynamics and Technicality - All teams can develop their cars, at any point in the season. You can invest up to £600,000 on car development per season on any aspect you think will help your team.
- Teams can go into debt. If your team is in debt to the tune of -£4,000,000 your team will be declared bankrupt and ditched from the championship with immediate effect. If you manage two teams, you can transfer money from one team to the other (to keep that team a float), but only when the team you want to transfer money to is in debt. Any team is free to ask for extra money from teams of other members.
- Rules and regulations will be reviewed at a midpoint in the season as well as the end of each season, hense why each team gets a "request" when they signup, during these times teams can submit more requests.
- There will also be one pre-season test at Cadwell Park (the racetrack that was declared the "home" of the GTCC by Blackbourn) spread across three sessions.
- The points system will be the following for the first season (again like most things, members/teams can request to change this.)
Pole Position: 2
Fastest Lap: 1
1st - 20
2nd - 17
3rd - 15
4th - 13
5th - 11

9th - 7
10th - 6
11th - 5
12th - 4
13th - 3
14th - 2

- Prize money will be given out in this format:
1st) £270,000
2nd)£190,000
3rd) £160,000
4th) £130,000

7th)£60,000
8th) £50,000
9th) £40,000
10th) £30,000
11th or anyone below who is classified) £10,000

- The Manufacturers Championship will be for works/factory teams, with prize money given out every race instead of after the season. The prize money will be given out as follows:
1st position: £20,000
2nd position: £14,000
3rd position: £10,000
4th or rest of classified finishers: £5,000

- The Teams Championship will be for privateer teams, with prize money given out every race instead of after the season. The prize money will be given out as follows:
1st position: £10,000
2nd position: £6,000
3rd position: £3,000
4th or rest of classified finishers: £1,000

- For the first season, each race weekend will consist of one 30 minute practice session to get the drivers used to the track we are at, this is followed by a normal 30 minute qualifying session (both Practice and Quali are on a Friday) and then on Saturday and Sunday there are three 90-100 km races (depends on the track) to ensure more action for the fans.
- You are free to sign any driver you want (excluding active Formula 1 drivers at the time.) although I should stress the works teams are more likely to sign the best drivers, who may demand big salaries-think realistically when making up salaries for your drivers, a more detailed explanation of drivers will be below.

DRIVER SIGNINGS
A Random Number Generator will be used to see if drivers accept/reject/want to keep negotiating with their offers with 1 being a flat out rejection and 10 being accepted.

-The minimum wage for a paid driver is £125,000 a year.
-If a paid driver is sacked, be it before the start of the season, mid-season or before the end of the season, you must pay said driver one-fourth of his or her sign-on fee.
-Any offers made to a paid driver must be matching or close to his or her asking fee for said offer to be considered-remember that drivers may accept or reject your offers depending on the asking fee- don't try to pay a big name driver £150,000 as it probably wont be accepted.
-Any failed previous negotiations are re-negotiable depending on whether your targeted driver has signed for another team or not.
-Each team can nominate up to three drivers for each seat.
-If you wish to replace a driver at any point during the season, in case you want to employ a paid driver you must pay said driver a minimum wage of £10,000 per race weekend.

As for pay drivers:
-They also have the option to reject your offers, especially if they reckon you are asking for too much money.
-Pay drivers can bring up to £425,000 per season. If you want to hire a pay driver during the season you receive a fraction of the full-season amount
-Unlike paid driver offers pay driver offers are non-negotiable.
- If you fire a pay driver, he or she will not demand any payment-so relax. However, you will lose their money for races they will not compete in. E.g. You hire a driver for 1m and they bring £200,000. If you then fire them after 4 races, you will lose £150,000 of their money.

-Drivers may threaten to leave on their own accord for whatever reason (poor car performance, intra-team arguments etc.).You ca try to convince them to stay by giving them a wage bonus/install a car upgrade/etc, or simply let them go and pay the compensation fee.
-Drivers can be injured. Injury Severities are decided via random number generator and range from 10%(will not miss any races) to a maximum of 80%(badly injured and will miss a maximum of 10 rounds)
-And remember, keep your driver offers bold but not outworldly(Michael Schumacher won't be setting foot in a virtually unknown championship at this point!)
