Sainz wins at Sochi. Norris led most of the race but has to settle for second place and fastest lap after late rain and his failure to pit on time. Russell impresses with a third place.

Sainz 264 (3 wins, 8 2nd)
Gasly 187 (2 wins, 2 2nd, 5 3rd)

Sainz 280 (3 wins, 8 2nd, 1 3rd)

I guess this season hasn't been so exciting until now. Now I'm realising just how close Sainz actually is to winning this instead of Norris. If Ferrari can keep up their pace (which seems far more tenuous than McLaren's) then Carlos might steal this at the last moment!

That's starting to look more and more likely!

In the Brazilian sprint race, Sainz, Norris and Gasly score points. Sainz also wins the Grand Prix and gets the fastest lap. Gasly climbs to second and Ocon third while Norris only manages a fourth place.

Norris 366 (8 wins, 6 2nd, 1 3rd)
Sainz 353 (5 wins, 9 2nd, 1 3rd)

Ocon wins the first Qatar Grand Prix. Stroll finishes second – his best result of the season. Sainz was third, ahead of Norris who had another difficult race (although he did get the fastest lap point).

Sainz 368 (5 wins, 9 2nd, 2 3rd)
Gasly 266 (4 wins, 3 2nd, 5 3rd)

Just for how little I expected it, I would greatly welcome a Sainz championship at this point. The momentum seems to be firmly in Ferrari's camp now, and only two races to go. Less than two race wins separate the two

Ocon wins the first Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Gasly finishes second and Sainz third. Fastest lap goes to Ocon. Fifth-placed Norris' championship lead is further reduced – he might need a win in Abu Dhabi now!

2021 (After twenty-one races):

Norris 389 (8 wins, 6 2nd, 1 3rd)
Sainz 383 (5 wins, 9 2nd, 3 3rd)
Gasly 284 (4 wins, 4 2nd, 5 3rd)

Ouch. To be fair this one didn't even get decided by the safety car as Sainz was ahead of Lando the whole race.

I was thinking there's got to be someone missing out of that line-up but it suddenly dawned on me Albon won 2020!. Half the field are eliminated (and I'd even forgotten Hulkenberg was a former champ at this too)!

I think Hulk is the only champion here without a single real-life podium! And the race at Jeddah further emphasizes the lack of eligible drivers...

Russell takes another win in Saudi Arabia. Ocon finishes second just ahead of Norris who surprises after a difficult first race of the season. Norris gets the fastest lap point.

2022 (After two races):

Russell 51 (2 wins)
Ocon 33 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Magnussen 28 (1 2nd)

For the sake of this championship, it would actually be a good thing for the midfield teams to catch up with Mercedes, rather than them catch Red Bull and Ferrari!!

Russell domination again, but glad to see that Norris is turning his season around after a disastrous Bahrain GP. If the McLaren goes up in pace, he could still take this title through consistency...

At Imola, Russell's win streak comes to an end. He only managed a fourth place in the sprint race, won by Norris ahead of Magnussen and Schumacher. His fortunes slightly improved in the race, as he climbed to second, but Norris took the win from pole. Tsunoda finished third, taking his first podium of the season. All drivers finished the race – Schumacher was last but surprisingly took the fastest lap point!

2022 (After four races):

Russell 100 (3 wins, 1 2nd)
Norris 71 (1 win, 1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Ocon 56 (1 2nd, 2 3rd)
Magnussen 51 (1 2nd)

At Silverstone, Russell suffers his first retirement of the season. This allows Norris to win, although he remains three wins' worth of points behind Russell. Second place is a big surprise, as Mick Schumacher takes the first podium of his career. Magnussen completes Haas' great result with a third place. Only six drivers managed to finish the race. Norris takes the fastest lap.

2022 (After ten races):

Russell 229 (8 wins, 1 2nd)
Norris 154 (2 wins, 2 2nd, 3 3rd)
Ocon 134 (4 2nd, 2 3rd)
Stroll 92 (1 3rd)

In Austria, Russell won the sprint race, with Ocon and Magnussen in second and third. Russell and Ocon repeated their top two spots in the Grand Prix, with Schumacher taking a second consecutive podium. The fastest lap? Russell again...

Russell 263 (9 wins, 1 2nd)
Norris 170 (2 wins, 2 2nd, 3 3rd)
Ocon 159 (5 2nd, 2 3rd)

To no one's surprise, Russell takes his tenth win of the season in France. Norris is second and Ocon third, though both are really starting to fall out of contention. Only six drivers made it to the finish, though Zhou was also classified. Fastest lap goes to Russell.

2022 (After twelve races):

Russell 289 (10 wins, 1 2nd)
Norris 188 (2 wins, 3 2nd, 3 3rd)
Ocon 174 (5 2nd, 3 3rd)
Stroll 115 (1 3rd)
Gasly 101 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)

Despite being one of the more eventful Hungarian Grands Prix, it doesn't show in the result: all ten cars make it to the finish, with a Russell-Norris-Ocon top three. More surprisingly, Zhou takes the first fastest lap of his career.

2022 (After thirteen races):

Russell 314 (11 wins, 1 2nd)
Norris 206 (2 wins, 4 2nd, 3 3rd)
Ocon 189 (5 2nd, 4 3rd)
Stroll 127 (1 3rd)
Gasly 111 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Magnussen 98 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Schumacher 98 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Tsunoda 82 (1 3rd)
Zhou 76 (1 3rd)
Latifi 51 (best result: 2 5th)

Russell wins again at Spa. Ocon finishes second, Gasly third. Everyone finishes the race, with Latifi in last place. The fastest lap was set by Russell.

The winner at Zandvoort isn't hard to guess – Russell is now four wins away from Leclerc's record of most wins in a season, setting another fastest lap on the way. The other two podium spots going to Norris and Ocon isn't much more surprising.

2022 (After fifteen races):

Russell 366 (13 wins, 1 2nd)
Norris 234 (2 wins, 5 2nd, 3 3rd)
Ocon 222 (6 2nd, 5 3rd)
Stroll 151 (1 3rd)
Gasly 136 (1 2nd, 2 3rd)
Magnussen 108 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Schumacher 108 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Tsunoda 90 (1 3rd)
Zhou 86 (1 3rd)
Latifi 54 (best result: 2 5th)

At Monza, Russell takes his sixth win in a row. Norris finished second and Gasly third. The biggest surprise of the weekend is Nyck de Vries who gets a fourth place on his debut – also Williams' best result of the season. Stroll is the only non-finisher. The fastest lap was set by Norris.

2022 (After sixteen races):

Russell 391 (14 wins, 1 2nd)
Norris 253 (2 wins, 6 2nd, 3 3rd)
Ocon 230 (6 2nd, 5 3rd)
Gasly 151 (1 2nd, 3 3rd)
Stroll 151 (1 3rd)
Schumacher 114 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Magnussen 109 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Zhou 96 (1 3rd)
Tsunoda 94 (1 3rd)

Russell had the chance to clinch the title in Singapore but failed to do so. He could only manage a sixth place (the last finishing driver!) and another fastest lap. Norris took his third win of the season. Stroll finished second (his best result of the year), with Gasly in third.

2022 (After seventeen races):

Russell 400 (14 wins, 1 2nd)
Norris 278 (3 wins, 6 2nd, 3 3rd)
Ocon 230 (6 2nd, 5 3rd)
Stroll 169 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Gasly 166 (1 2nd, 4 3rd)
Schumacher 124 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Magnussen 121 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Zhou 96 (1 3rd)
Tsunoda 94 (1 3rd)
Latifi 56 (best result: 2 5th)
De Vries 12 (best result: 4th)

In Japan, full points are strangely awarded for half a race. Norris needed to score 11 more points than Russell to remain in contention. In the end, he failed to do so, finishing fourth to Russell's second. Ocon took his first win of the season. The real shock was Latifi getting a third place – his first career podium. Zhou set fastest lap, and surprisingly for the conditions, everyone finished the race.

2022 (After eighteen races):

Russell 418 (14 wins, 2 2nd)

Norris 290 (3 wins, 6 2nd, 3 3rd)
Ocon 255 (1 win, 6 2nd, 5 3rd)
Stroll 179 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Gasly 167 (1 2nd, 4 3rd)
Magnussen 127 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Schumacher 126 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Tsunoda 102 (1 3rd)
Zhou 101 (1 3rd)
Latifi 71 (1 3rd)
De Vries 12 (best result: 4th)

The United States Grand Prix gives Russell his 15th win of the season, along with another fastest lap. Norris and Magnussen join him on the podium. Stroll was the only non-finisher after a crash.

Russell 444 (15 wins, 2 2nd)

Norris 308 (3 wins, 7 2nd, 3 3rd)
Ocon 265 (1 win, 6 2nd, 5 3rd)
Stroll 179 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Gasly 173 (1 2nd, 4 3rd)
Magnussen 142 (1 2nd, 2 3rd)
Schumacher 130 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Tsunoda 114 (1 3rd)
Zhou 109 (1 3rd)

Russell keeps his chances of breaking the record for most wins in a season alive with another win in Mexico – just two to go now. He also sets his 13th fastest lap of the season, which must rank pretty high in the all-time standings. Ocon finishes second and Norris third.

2022 (After twenty races):

Russell 470 (16 wins, 2 2nd)

Norris 323 (3 wins, 7 2nd, 4 3rd)
Ocon 283 (1 win, 7 2nd, 5 3rd)
Stroll 187 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Gasly 185 (1 2nd, 4 3rd)
Magnussen 146 (1 2nd, 2 3rd)
Schumacher 136 (1 2nd, 1 3rd)
Zhou 119 (1 3rd)
Tsunoda 114 (1 3rd)
Latifi 75 (1 3rd)
De Vries 12 (best result: 4th)

And we all think Max winning 14 races for real is boring lol.

At least next year looks interesting now with all 6 drivers from the top 3 teams out and I see no reason for that pecking order to change unless Ferrari have another shocker. If there's a similar pecking order then I'd put Norris, Ocon as favourites and possibly their teammates depending on how quick they can get up to speed, maybe DrVries if he impresses at Alpha Tauri.
