Re: The F1 World Championship...for Rejects

Post by Bobby Doorknobs »

I have noticed two mistakes in previous chamionships that would alter some champions. First, Bob Gerard has scored points towards and has even won the reject championship, when he in fact unrejectified himself when he scored the third sixth place of his career at the 1957 British Grand Prix, this at a time when only the top five scored points, making Gerard the only non-reject who never scored a point (I think). The other mistake is more minor. Gino Munaron won two races in 1960 and should therefore have 16 points and the championship win. The posted results say he only scored eight. Anyway, enough nitpicking, here's the next two years. :)

1992
1-P. Belmondo-42
2-O. Grouillard-40
3-E. Naspetti-26
4-E. van de Poele-20
5-J. Lammers-10
6-G. Tarquini-6

1993
1-L. Badoer-48
2-A. Zanardi-46 (Had a 20-point lead over Barbazza and 28 over Badoer before his accident)
3-F. Barbazza-26
4-T. Suzuki-20
5-Pedro Lamy-12
None of the top three finished the season.

At last, the saga is complete.

1994
1-D. Brabham-44
2-O. Beretta-40 (Had a 6-point lead over Brabham before disappearing)
3-A. Zanardi-36 (Lotus giving the seat to Adams didn't do him any favours)
4-J. M. Gounon-30
5-P. Lamy-26 (Had a 16-point lead over Beretta before his accident)
6-Y. Dalmas-10
7-F. Lagorce-10
8-D. Schiattarella-6
9-R. Ratzenberger-6
10-P. Adams-4

1995

Here are all the seasons in which Bob Gerard competed, only this time he's omitted from the championship as he should have been. I also applied a countback system instead of just prioritising whoever scored first (although I did fall back on this if countback still resulted in a tie), because I think a driver who makes more attempts to participate should be rewarded. Plus Maria Teresa de Filippis wins the title this way. :P I won't bother redoing the rest of the championships, but I will post a complete list of champions some time in the future, tomorrow perhaps.

1950
1-J. Claes-23
2-C. Harrison-8
3-P. Levegh-8
4-N. Pagani-8
5-T. Branca-7
6-D. Hampshire-6
7-G. Crossley-4
8-E. Chaboud-4
9-C. Pozzi-3
=10-J. Fry-2
=10-B. Shawe-Taylor-2
Yeah, it really turned into CLAESWINSLOL. :D

1951
1-J. Claes-23
2-P. Levegh-14
3-G. Mairesse-12
4-A. Simon-8
5-E. Chaboud-8
6-P. Walker-8
7-J. Swaters-6
8-B. Shawe-Taylor-6
9-F. Rol-6
10-D. Hamilton-4

1953
1-J. Claes-8 (This is another good reason for favouring the countback system, he's a triple World Champion! :D)
2-J. Swaters-8
3-H. Stuck-8
4-Ó. Gálvez-8
5-F. Wacker-8
6-H. Lang-8
7-J. Barber-6
8-R. Nuckey-6
9-M. de Terra-6
10-T. Helfrich-4
11-A. Scherrer-4
12-K. McAlpine-3
13-R. Krause-2
Jimmy Stewart and Chico Landi were removed from the results because they never crossed the finish line, although using modern day rules they would have been classified in Silverstone and Monza respectively. I'm confident that that is the fault of wherever Phoenix got his results from.

1954
1-J. Swaters-8 (Belgian dominance in the early '50s :D)
2-F. Wacker-8
3-D. Beauman-8
4-J. Daponte-6
5-L. Marr-6
6-L. Thorne-4
7-H. Gould-3 (He was a non-scorer originally, because of Bill Whitehouse, who has been removed for the same reason as Stewart and Landi in '53)

1956
1-H. da Silva Ramos-16
2-H. Gould-14
3-L. Piotti-8
4-A. Simon-6
=5-A. Uría-4
=5-O. González-4
Nothing actually changed here, Gerard was last (2nd) at Silverstone.

1957
1-H. Gould-8 (Steals the title from reject driver and constructor de Tomaso)
2-B. Halford-8
3-A. de Tomaso-8
4-I. Bueb-8
5-L. Piotti-6
6-O. Volonterio-6
7-M. MacDowell-4

After Kvyat's unrejectification the 2014 standings have changed, though Vergne is still champion:

1-J. É. Vergne-350
2-E. Gutiérrez-229
3-J. Bianchi-205
4-M. Chilton-199
5-M. Ericsson-165
6-W. Stevens-15

2015 looks like this after Monaco:

1-F. Nasr-130
2-C. Sainz, Jr.-91
3-M. Ericsson-81
4-R. Merhi-54
5-M. Verstappen-51
6-W. Stevens-47

EDIT: On an unrelated note, I've made a massive cock-up by giving Gino Munaron the 1960 championship. I thought he'd won two races when he in fact only finished third in those events  Chuck Daigh is the actual champion.

Verstappen has now unrejectified himself, which means the standings for this year will have to be revised and updated as we head into the summer break:

1-F. Nasr-194
2-M. Ericsson-170
3-C. Sainz, Jr.-123
4-R. Merhi-107
5-W. Stevens-88

Also, can somebody please move this into the BSMF where it belongs?

With Nasr's unrejectification it's time to revisit this championship and see how things have changed.

1-M. Ericsson-290
2-C. Sainz, Jr.-204
3-R. Merhi-181
4-W. Stevens-177
5-A. Rossi-30

The Ericsson Era is here.

With Sainz's unrejectification, the entire 2015 and 2016 standings have had to be revised. They now look like this:

2015

1. Marcus Ericsson - 400 pts.
2. Will Stevens - 249 pts.
3. Roberto Merhi - 215 pts,
4. Alexander Rossi - 94 pts.

Marcus Ericsson's dominance is multiplied thanks to now only having Manor for opposition; he won every race he finished.

2016 (after 20 races)

1. Esteban Gutiérrez - 324 pts.
2. Jolyon Palmer - 281 pts.
3. Marcus Ericsson - 271 pts.
4. Pascal Wehrlein - 218 pts.
5. Esteban Ocon - 110 pts.
6. Rio Haryanto - 103 pts.
7. Stoffel Vandoorne - 25 pts.

I failed to mention that Sainz had actually clinched this championship before today. His absence created a closer-looking battle, but the finishing order today has allowed Gutiérrez to clinch it early instead. Therefore, Esteban Gutiérrez is Reject of the Year 2016.
