2016

Only two rookies raced for the whole season and it looked close between the two protagonists. Mathematically, it went down to the wire in Abu Dhabi, but in reality all Palmer needed to do in the usually superior Renault was finish. He did just that.

Final standings:

1. Jolyon Palmer - 341 pts.
2. Pascal Wehrlein - 320 pts.
3. Esteban Ocon - 174 pts.
4. Rio Haryanto - 147 pts.
5. Stoffel Vandoorne - 25 pts.

No?

Under a fairer definition, yes, but I went for a very strict one from the start: Anyone who has a race start before the current season is not a rookie. I could change it to something like three starts or half a season, but that would mean going back over six plus decades of results, which I no longer feel motivated to do.

For anyone wondering what happened to the titanic Stroll-Giovinazzi battle:

2017 (after 15 rounds)

1. Lance Stroll - 300 pts.
2. Antonio Giovinazzi - 25 pts.
3. Pierre Gasly - 18 pts.

Gasly was simply too late to stop the Steamstroller from winning the championship.

Due to the strict rules of this championship, only Charles Leclerc and Sergey Sirotkin qualified as rookies for this year's championship. And, I shite you not, these were the results:

2018
1. Sergey Sirotkin - 380
2. Charles Leclerc - 379

There's still half a season to go... And George Russell is much closer than I would have anticipated.

Now I don’t claim to be any nostradamus or anything but I feel like Latifi has got next season’s rookie championship in the bag, just a hunch though...

Unless he himself gets replaced before mid-season, i don't think any other mid-season replacements could be able to catch up.
I don't know what i want and i want it now!
