2018 Australian Grand Prix - Predicament Predictions!

Post by Rob Dylan »

Good morning, afternoon, evening folks, and welcome to the Formula 1 2018 Rolex Australian Grand Prix Predicament Predictions! This is our first round for the season, and I hope you haven't missed me too much.

For those who don't know what Predicament Predictions is, let me explain as simply as possible. For each race of the F1 season, you get to write down your predictions for who will finish in the top 10, along with some other factors. Different places give different points, depending on how right you are. After a week or so after the race, the points are counted up, and the championship begins! Mario is our reigning champion, and we look to see how good people's predicting abilities are this season. Good luck everyone!

Here are my predictions as an example, with the points you can earn next to them:

1. Valtteri Bottas (5)
2. Lewis Hamilton (3)
3. Daniel Ricciardo (3)
4. Sebastian Vettel (2)
5. Carlos Sainz Jr. (2)
6. Kevin Magnussen (2)
7. Fernando Alonso (2)
8. Sergio Pérez (2)
9. Lance Stroll (2)
10. Sergey Sirotkin (2)

Pole Position: Lewis Hamilton (2)
Fastest lap: Sebastian Vettel (1)
First retirement: Kimi Räikkönen (2)*
Reject of the Race: the Action Lap they've got planned (3)**
Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race: Daniel Ricciardo (3)**
Deadbeat Teammate of the Race: Kimi Raikkonen (2)
Minor League Premiership: Sergey Sirotkin (1)*
Did Not Start: Max Verstappen***

*First Retirement used to be 1 point whilst MLP was 2, but for this season I have swapped the points values around, due to the huge number of free points players received for guessing Ocon as MLP every single time.
**These will be decided by some kind of terrifying Illuminati-like conspiracy alongside the usual ROTR and IIDOTR pages, but the result should be fairly similar.
***This is a bonus point in the off-chance that someone guesses correctly. If all driver start, no points are awarded.

A final point is awarded for the funniest alternative race title you can come up with for each race. It's not about the winning (though it is almost entirely about the winning), although at the end of the season, the top three shall all receive Special Prizes (C)! So stay consistent, and try to predict for each race, and you're sure to do well. Here is your blank sheet:

IIDOTR:
DBTMOTR:

The candidates for the Minor League Premiership (best of the rookies) are: Sergey Sirotkin; Pierre Gasly; Brendon Hartley; Charles Leclerc.

Ok, that should be absolutely everything complicated out of the way. Have fun predicting!

One more thing I should mention:

The deadline for submitting your predictions is the end of Free Practice 3 of each race weekend. Anything submitted after that will be penalised.

Results are in! After the first race of the season, we have an interesting order in play for the coming season. Without further ado:

Results and standings
1. Klon 17
2. Gertrand Bachot 16
- Aguvazk 16

4. Bleu 15
5. Wizzie 13
- mario 13
7. Dexter249 12.5
8. AdrianBelmonte_ 12
- Aislabie 12
- RAK 12
- tommykl 12
- dr-baker 12
- mash 12
14. Ugncreativeusergname 11
- yannicksamlad 11
- This Could Be You 11
17. Rob Dylan 10
- Enforcer 10
- CarloSpace 10
20. IceG 8

Klon takes his first ever win (at least in this era of PP) with a decent 17 points, and therefore takes the lead after our first round. Aguvazk took the bonus point for funniest title. Our front-runners from last year all partook, and took respectable scores - no crazy results meant no crazy scores - whilst most of the successful gamblers in Australia were this era's newbies. The standings are the same, obviously, with defending champion Mario taking joint-fifth overall.

See you next time in Bahrain!
