Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Singapore
Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Singapore
1. Sergey Sirotkin - Single-handedly made this race interesting. Bar his move on Hartley, that was an excellent defensive display while it lasted.
2. Fernando Alonso - 7th in that kekwagon. He's not going gentle into that good night.

Let's just say my nominations finished last and second to last, for reasons already mentioned above.

Sergey Sirotkin is the obvious choice for a display of defensive driving that by all rights should have landed him Driver of the Day instead of Max Verstappen.
Fernando Alonso didn't get lapped and was the only B-class driver not to be.
Stoffel Vandoorne ran a calm and measured race despite a compromised set-up, played his cards right and got a solid finish for once.

Fernando Alonso is my nomination – he was close to reaching Q3 and had a great result in the race. We haven't seen McLaren do that well many times lately...
Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Singapore
I think that Alonso definitely deserves an award here, since that is his best result since Baku - McLaren had hoped this might be one of their better circuits, and Alonso certainly took full advantage.
Elsewhere, I'm tempted to go for a slightly offbeat choice with Sainz Jr - a quieter result, perhaps, but he was one of the main place gainers in that race as he worked his way into 8th.

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Singapore
1 Sergey Sirotkin: He was the sole reason I kept watching that race. He held Perez off brilliantly and on merit. It reminded me of Heikki Kovalainen doing it in a Caterham to Jenson Button's McLaren in Monaco 2012 and he was completely blameless when Perez lost his head. Yes at some point it was going to get silly and it did with shoving Hartley off the road but it was sheer enjoyment to watch
2 Fernando Alonso: He always goes well at Singapore (I honestly think he'd have been on the podium last year if he wasn't in the crash) but this McLaren is clearly weaker than the last 3 around here. To finish the so called B-Class winner and not get lapped overall deserves some credit

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Singapore
Sergey Sirotkin: A great display of (mostly) clean defensive driving, and the source of most of the excitement in what was a tedious race to watch. Also, his car control and composure in the face of being crashed into twice was pretty impressive too.
Fernando Alonso: 7th in this Mclaren is rather good.
HM:
Ericsson: Unlucky not to end up with points
Hartley: Good, clean driving, and was far closer to Gasly in terms of race pace.
Vandoorne: Well, he wasn't last for once.

Once again, the poll is up, so you have 48 hours to get voting. Good luck

And in a first for the Russian, Sergey Sirotkin wins his first Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race award in Singapore! He had a partial win with it at Monza, where he scored his first points. But here, even though he finished in last place, his incredible defending on terrible tyres won him the love of the fans, and gave him his first outright award of his career. He's been derided as a pay driver by many, but he's obviously capable of a great performance when the day arrives.
