2018 Russian Grand Prix - Predicament Predictions!

Morning all, and welcome to the 2018 Russian Grand Prix, and specifically that bit where you predict all the terribly unpredictable things that will befall the F1 paddock this coming weekend? Will we finally see that Sirotkin victory that has been teased over so much of this season? Which front-runner will blow up or choke 10 seconds into the race? Welcome to Predicament Predictions!

I've certainly discussed the suggestion, and it is all but sorted that for next year the final factor will be "number of safety cars". You get a bonus point if you get the exact number right :) for the rest of the year we'll stick with the traditional method, and probably implement this in Melbourne 2019.

Now you mention it, if the safety car were to break down, I think the protocol is that the medical car would take over as the pace car. I have a recollection that, in the 2007 Japanese GP, as the safety car wouldn't have had enough fuel to make it to the end of the race on a single tank, the plan was that, if the entire race was run under safety car conditions, the medical car would have taken over from the pace car when it needed to refuel.

Depends if F1 cars would have had enough fuel to complete the race distance (probably two hours).

And if it wasn't the case, if Takuma Sato had been first to fill the tank and then taking the victory, probably they would have been happy.

I believe that some of the cars could have made it all the way to the end on a single tank if the race went the full distance under the safety car.

If I recall well, both Spyker's had filled the tank all the way up and Sutil reckoned they would have had enough fuel to make it all the way to the end on that one tank. There is therefore the slim possibility we might have seen a Spyker 1-2 with Yamamoto on the podium...

Sochi's results are in, and it was a very high-scoring round! Not only did we have two double-pointers, but even those without activating double points, people like CarloSpace ended up getting 23 points without them - the highest this season so far. So well done to him. Championship leader RAK dominated, however, and used his double points well to score 32 points to push his lead very far. dr-baker, saved a little by his IIDOTR prediction at the last count, had a very disappointing round with only 11 points.
