Infinite Improbability Thingy - México
So, who do you think is the IIDOTR for Mexico and why is it Will Smith?

I'll say Bernie Ecclestone because Forix tells me it's his birthday. Who'd have thought he'd have made it to 88, except those who have hinted that he sold his soul to Satan in return for everlasting life?

Re: Infinite Improbability Thingy - México
I don't really know. Really it would have been so easy to have nominated Red Bull after their obvious leap in pace and great results. But after the sourness of Ricciardo's departure, I almost refuse in response to nominate them.
Will Smith is a good shout, though perhaps it was a bit rejectful that he didn't use the opportunity to plug the talents of his children.
I was thinking of going for Renault, but once again Sainz went out, so I can't really nominate a team when only one car finishes! Though Nico Hulkenberg just earned two consecutive Formula B wins, which deserves a mention in my eyes.
Otherwise yes, Sauber is maybe a safer choice. Hmm, I feel like there's nothing that really stands out, though.

Easily Stoffel Vandoorne for ending a streak of 14 races without points. Especially impressive considering McLaren's terrible results recently... He may just have saved McLaren's sixth place in the WCC!
Re: Infinite Improbability Thingy - México
1. Vandoorne - think 3rd in Class B is his best this year (even when he was 8th in Bahrain, a Ferrari and both Red Bulls retired).
2. Gasly for scoring a point from last on the grid.

I'll go with that nomination - for all the troubles he's had over the season, this was finally a race where he was able to show some of the promise he entered the sport with.
That said, this weekend we seem to have truly come across something extremely improbable - Horner being prepared to give Renault some credit for helping them win a race.

1. Vandoorne - He's a thing again!
2. Ericsson - He's getting better and better this year- another points finish, this time entirely on merit
HM:
Rich Energy - How they got anyone to sign their sponsorship deal at all is improbable enough.

I'll go with that - Gasly made a stop after 5 laps , so effectively did a one stop, had to keep the tyres alive despite a lot of traffic and some passing , was last on lap 6 and made it through the race faster than a lot of the others
I started supporting Emmo in 1976 (3 points )....missed 75, 74, 73, 72...

To some extent, I would say that the strategy that Leclerc and Ericsson did was more impressive in that sense then - they not only had to run much longer stints on the hyper-soft tyres at the start (13 and 16 laps respectively), they then had to run longer stints on the super-soft tyres than Gasly did as well (56 and 53 laps respectively, ten more than Gasly's final 43 lap stint). Equally, for all the criticism he gets, Ericsson did a pretty decent job at defending his position despite the state of his tyres in that stint, and then holding Gasly off at the end - that deserves recognition as well, I feel.
This Could Be You, it is improbable that somebody agreed to sign a deal with Rich Energy, I grant you, but I suppose there is a question over whether that technically took place during the previous race - I think that Haas have suggested the contract was signed during the US GP race weekend.

Will Smith will smith.
And in this thread, why do I keep reading Will Smith's name as Will Stevens?

Will Stevens getting confirmed for 2019 might just break a hole into the next dimension but I for one would welcome it!

Re: Infinite Improbability Thingy - México
Stoffel Vandoorne wins the Infinite Improbability award! He finished a solid 8th place, raced conspicuously standing out among his peers, and getting those desperately needed points for McLaren that might just have saved their 6th place in the constructors championship. He's had a tough season, and it was a welcome drive from an embattled guy. Good job Stoffel!
