2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix - Predicament Predictions Finale!

Hope you're excited as I am, folks, as this coming weekend marks the grand finale of a championship that's still wide open - it's the Predicament Predictions Championship Finale of 2018, brought to you from the ever-promising racetrack in Abu Dhabi! While the real-life winner of Sunday's race won't even be allowed to drink booze, the winner of the predicaments championship will go home for Christmas with a signed, framed photo of Karun Chandhok in his 2010 Hispania Racing Team overalls! This is deadly serious, people. So make sure to get those predictions in before the end of Free Practice 3, and you won't get any penalties. Good luck to all as usual, though especially this time with the championship, and even the rostrum at stake.

There's always a point for the funniest alternative race title you guys can come up with. The candidates for Minor League Premiership are the usual: Leclerc; Gasly; Hartley; Sirotkin. And if you haven't used them yet, you're always welcome to activate double points for one round only.

*The DNS option will be changed next year, due mainly to the fact that nobody ever DNSs anymore, to something along the lines of "how many safety cars", or "will there be a safety car?". I'll put up a thread about it over Christmas and you guys can decide what would be best.

4. Sebastian Vettel (finally some on-track drama between him and Lewis means that neither are in contention for the win)

7. Fernando Alonso (drives maturely and makes his way through the pack)

9. Charles Leclerc
10. Sergey Sirotkin (where did that come from?)

ROTR: Kimi Räikkönen (drives an appalling race to finish 12th, losing him 3rd in the championship at the death to both Bottas and Verstappen)

DBTMOTR: Lance Stroll / Kimi Räikkönen (jointly)
MLP: Charles Leclerc

Thank you for waiting, and here we have the finale of the 2018 Predicament Predictions finale at Abu Dhabi! First of all, to the results of the race itself. We had five people going for double points in the final round, and FortiWinks in their first ever race gets a win! There were some serious high-points scores, but also a lot of unpredictability what with the fact that it bloody rained in Abu Dhabi of all places :P What you're probably wondering is about the championship standings and where everyone stands at the end of it all. Enforcer and dr-baker were the definitely the highest scorers of the front-runners. Here are the full results below:

And as you've probably gleaned, RAK and mario scored the same number of points, which means that our 2018 Predicament Predictions champion is RAK! Well done, you have earned yourself a signed, framed photo of Karun Chandhok in Hispania racing overalls! it means that the defending champion mario finishes a very respectable runner-up position, having been something of a dark horse this whole season. Last year's runner-up tommykl was likewise demoted a place on the rostrum, but still finishes excellently in third. The gap still remains small between the rest of the front-runners, though dr-baker and Klon, leaders in the standings for a time, missed out on any rostrum awards. Woo! That became a hard-fought battle at the end there when mario used his double points so well. As much of a challenge was actually remembering to get my predictions in every race weekend before the cut-off period, which has been a downfall of mine in other Predicament Predictions seasons. Anyway, it's been an interesting season and I'll be looking forward to competing again in 2019.

Well, I'll admit that I thought that the double points joker that I played wasn't going to be anything like as effective as it proved to be in the end - it's been a good contest over the year, and a richly deserved victory for you in the end.

As you say, given the sheer length of the season, in some ways the hardest aspect was sometimes simply remembering when to get the nominations in to begin with - think that there were a few times when I came close to nearly missing it.
