Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Austria
Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Austria
1. Lando Norris. 2/3s of the way to unrejectification, and easily had Gasly covered.
2. Antonio Giovinazzi. Finally off the mark!

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Austria
Max Verstappen - The obvious answer, but his was a brilliant drive. He gave us a thriller of a race.
Lando Norris - An exceptional 6th, finally things go his way after two unlucky races in a row.
HM: The Podium Ceremony. Brilliant to see a podium ceremony with 3 protagonists who still aren't veterans (bar maybe Bottas, but he's not been a winner for that long!)

Lando Norris - that lad has serious pace and is driving like somebody with multiple years of experience in F1, not half a season.

1- Max Verstappen. At 14.20 UK time, I thought he had no chance of winning the race after his awful start. And hey presto he did!!
2- Norris- Another fantastic race and beat a red bull on pure pace (the less said about that certain red bull the better)
HM- Giovinazzi gets his first point this season meaning only the Williams drivers have not scored any points (and won't. Let's be honest)
George Russell- Clearly outpacing the equipment he has been given and deserves a better car.

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Austria
I nominate Max Verstappen for an amazing recovery drive and being the driver to end the Mercedes win streak. I'd have preferred to see Leclerc get his first win, but it's undeniable he did a great job.

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Austria
No love for Sainz? Started last, made up 11 places, was a typical drive from him, kept his head down, didn't make waves, but got the job done.
Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Austria
I'm going to say McLaren as a whole. Norris beating a Red Bull (even if it was an underperforming one) on merit, and Sainz getting good points from the back of the grid.

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Austria
1) Max Verstappen. Even if his win gets thrown out in that pass for the lead he put on a barnstormer performance after a bad start.
2) Mclaren Drivers. Norris proved to be the best of the rest by a wide margin, and Sainz made a great climb from the back row into the points.
Honourable Mentions:
Alfa Romeo (Great performance by both drivers, taking a double points finish)
Robert Kubica (For winning Driver of the Day on a plurality )
Ferrari Strategists (Looked very in control, a rare moment where they seem more sorted out than the Mercedes garage this year)

(1) Giovinazzi - I had written him off but what a great drive

1) Max Verstappen: For finally breaking the Mercedes stronghold on race victories this season.
2) Lando Norris: A great result both for himself and for McLaren; gets him closer to potential unrejectification.
Honourable mention: Antonio Giovinazzi - managed to match Kimi Raikkonen rather well both in qualifying and the race, Carlos Sainz - pulling points out despite the grid penalty.

One more name to add into the potential pile: Honda. After all the false starts and the duff designs and the catastrophic breakdown of their relationship with McLaren, they've come good - even if it was helped along by 200,000 screaming Dutch fans who were a long way from home to add credence to Nigel Mansell's famous assertion that the Silverstone crowd were worth a second a lap. Until recently, Fernando Alonso might well have been as sick as a parrot with the Ebola virus at this development, but I doubt he will care too much when he gets the Brasso out for his Le Mans and WEC trophies...

Although the race was quite boring until the very end, there are actually a lot of nominations!
- Max Verstappen: he basically started 7th and won the race. Exciting drive and a good drive. Absolutely deserved that win, even if it came at the shame of Leclerc missing out.
- Charles Leclerc: poor Charles. This would be his day on almost any other day. Verstappen deserved it, though.
- Lando Norris and Kimi Räikkönen: great drives with genuine fights at the front for the first 10 laps at least. Even if only for the first stint, it's wonderful to see drivers outside the top 6 actually fighting and competing on merit.

Re: Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Austria
So the winner of the race was also the winner of Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race! Second on the grid after a great qualifying, he fell back to 7th as the ghost of Mark Webber fell upon his machine. Regardless, he still stormed back through the grid and won the race after some great racing and overtaking of his rivals. What more could we ask as racing fans? It's a shame Leclerc didn't win the race, but this guy was the better man on the day, and especially in the current year with Mercedes dominance, it's refreshing to watch someone else win it for a change.
Oh yeah I forgot to say it was Max Verstappen.
