Pierre Gasly? Alex Albon? Honda-powered cars? Carlos Sainz?

1. Gasly. Forget that he got the podium, but he led F1.5 race apart from pit stops

2. Sainz. From last to 4th on the flag.

Got to be Gas Leak really (I've been impressed with him in general since he was put back in the Toro Rosso), though Sainz gets a big HM - driver of the year possibly?

Alfa Romero - 4th and 5th (mostly) on merit? And still a chance at a podium if Sainz get a penalty? Huge weekend for them, may have given them an outside chance at 7th in the WCC.

1- Pierre Gasly. 2nd? no one expected that! (kept his head when certain others didn't)

2- Carlos Sainz. From LAST to 3rd. Another who kept his head when others didn't. Again.

HM- Albon. Totally Gutted for him.

1) Pierre Gasly: Held on right to the end for a great podium despite the pressure on him this year.

2) Carlos Sainz Jr.: A great result to cap off what's been a strong year for him and McLaren.

Honourable Mention: Alexander Albon - would have totally deserved a podium himself and I was sorry to see that opportunity disappear; Alfa Romeo - managed to hold it well for a 4th and 5th, which is good for the team.

Pierre Gasly: Who’d have thought his best result and first F1 podium this year would have been for Toro Rosso not Red Bull?

Carlos Sainz: Last to 3rd in a McLaren. Yes a penalty got him the last place but that result is just reward for his season

Alfa Romeo: 35 points in 19 races, 22 in one afternoon here. That’s the decent 2 car points haul they should have had in Germany. Giovinazzi nearly unrejectified as well

Daniel Ricciardo: Ok it wasn’t faultless with the Magnussen clash but all the same who’d have predicted him to finish 6th when he was having that wing change?

1) Pierre Gasly. After all the heartache and turmoil this year he took his moment and conquered. Beating Hamilton in the final lap on pace alone is no small feat.

2) Carlos Sainz. 20th to 3rd, his quiet stealth drives finally paying off big. Mclaren needed that, and even though it was due to the frontrunners making mistakes it's good to see them back on the podium.

Honorable Mentions:
Alexander Albon (strongest performance thus far at Red Bull, but lost his chance at a first podium in that collision with Hamilton)
George Russell (How did he get into 12th???)
Alfa Romeo (Not seen much, but 4th and 5th is a great performance)
Max Verstappen (The ball was in his court all day when it came to the frontrunners)
The Second Half of the Race (Another barnstormer near the end there)

1. Pierre Gasly - I did several claps for him IRL
2. Carlos Sainz - Podium for McLaren, eventually
3. Honda - Who thought Gasly would win that drag race to make it a 1-2 for them?

Just checking the standings in the WCC.

Sainz' revised result means that McLaren have now secured 4th place with 140 points vs. 91 for Renault. I really hope they start to challenge the top three teams next season with regular podiums and perhaps a win. It would really open up the championship.

Gasly - and what an exit from Juncao on the last lap.

And Alfa - where did that pace come from ?
I started supporting Emmo in 1976 (3 points )....missed 75, 74, 73, 72...

And here too, it's quite clear who the forum are supporting for Infinite Improbability Drive, and that man is Pierre Gasly. The one good thing about the punishing Red Bull driver programme is that almost all of its tossed-away drivers have had some kind of redemption over the following years. Sorry Alguersuari. But the latest example of that said redemption comes from Pierre Gasly! After showing promise in Toro Rosso, he was perhaps promoted too early to the leading team after Daniel Ricciardo's departure, and failed to deliver the expected results. Showed up by his successor, he now gets his own back by scoring in a podium in the B-team car! And before Albon to boot. Good job, making the best of a crazy race and scoring 2nd after what has been a really disappointing year.
