2019 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix IIDOTR

Post by rachel1990 »

1. Perez I suppose. 7th in the Race...

2. F1 without DRS. The racing was actually better without it.

This, I suppose?

I nominate Sergio Pérez (best of the rest), with an honorable mention to Bottas.

Oh, absolutely the DRS-less racing that was going on :)

Otherwise it was pretty dull all-round. Some good overtaking and action in sporadic parts, but 2019 did kind of go out with a whimper rather than a bang.

Bottas for his DRS-less progress through the field.

HM: The DRS measurement system breaking, that showed us just how much of a "I.W.I.N." button that blue DRS button is.

Perez gets it for me - again I would never expect a Racing Point to be top of F1.5.

I also enjoyed the section where there was no DRS!

1. Pérez for his last-minute class win to move up a championship position
2. 17 laps of no DRS

The DRS-less racing was really great! I loved that Hülkenberg was able to hold off Bottas and Leclerc behind, creating more excitement overall. As soon as the DRS was enabled the fast cars just flew past the slow ones on the straights and the battles weren't as exciting. Less DRS please!

I'm honestly surprised they didn't just cancel the vote and put Verstappen as the winner.

A personal pet-peeve of mine since it began has been DRS. I've found it to have been used with such a cavalier attitude that it has been a boost button more often than not. But in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, we had a solid 14 laps without it, and it was great. There was genuinely good action and overtaking, and it wasn't just easy passes. Very enjoyable, and 14 laps without DRS was arguably the highlight of the whole race.
